Yawn
Just another blog. I’m sorry. I have nothing. Again. But here’s the thing. When do you yawn and why? It isn’t always for boredom. I yawn when I get started on yoga. After I’ve done some of the postures and breathing my yawns go away and I feel better.
Then there are nap and bedtimes when the body tells us that it is time to sleep. Yawn after yawn until we hear what our bodies are saying.
Yawning is dangerous for those of us with TMJ. I watch the emergency shows and last week a lady was stuck mid-yawn and couldn’t get her jaws to close again. I knew this was a possibility that is why I often use that closed mouth yawn you use when you are supposed to be paying attention: plays, speeches, someone talking to you, church, reading something boring like this. I even add the hand over the mouth to help keep the mouth closed.
Oh, what joy it would be not to have that fear and to let that yawn take control. But our nearest emergency room is an hour and a half and then there is the waiting in the waiting room. Germs and ugh! So, I’ll stick with the prim and proper yawn and let go in other areas of my life.
*Yawn* is the prompt given to us by our seemingly tireless writer, blogger, and challenger, Linda G. Hill. Thanks, I think. And good night.
Ugh! I hate the TMJ problems. I had to pay $750 for a prosthetic device when my jaw got stuck from yawning. Also had to drive over an our to get to an ortho who could deal with it since we lived in small town AZ and there were none around. Needless to say, my yawns are much quieter, too. LOL But at least I was able to avoid the recommended surgery. Sigh.
And why don’t I just write! It doesn’t seem to be a happening thing at all lately. I admire your stick-to-it-ness! ❤
Yeah, I had a prosthetic for a while. I kind of wish I had kept it as it helped me sleep. My jaw hurts against the pillow and I can’t sleep on my back. The surgery was not an option after we researched it for a while the doctor said it would actually make matters worse in the end.
I think the reason I don’t write as often as I want is the fear of it not being good enough. Once I decided that this is for me then the likes and comments are not only a bonus but encouragement to keep trying.
I’m surprised and happy with my stick-to-it-ness. I don’t think any of this is will power or already a habit as I have to work at it. Like it is the most important chore of my life. I hope you get to the position you want to get to. You write so well!
I just keep watching you stick with it and feel inspired. I’ve actually started writing a bit in my WriteItNow program, but haven’t polished it for my wordpress. Maybe soon. As for your fear of “not being good enough” even your short pieces are fun to read. And your longer pieces that I’ve read have been great! We just get too insecure, maybe?
I blew off the jaw surgery for the same reason! lol and the cost. The x-ray showed I had a “broken condile that had healed backwards” and that it was “likely from a blow to the jaw” which I don’t doubt. Got hit in the jaw many times growing up and by first husband. Just never knew it had been broken. Ah, the joy of ignorance.
As for the most important chore of your life, it seems it would take a lot of will power to push yourself to sit down and DO it. I know it does with me. But mostly I end up with “won’t” power winning out. And thank you for saying I write well. Like you, I have deep doubts about any having any skills at all. 😦
Writing is writing. If no one is seeing it, it still makes a sound. It certainly helps your psyche.
I think one of my toddlers bumped my jaw too hard. It happened a couple times. You know how they jump around on your lap. I just remembering having to pass the culprit to his dad. Sorry yours came from inflicted violence. Grrr!
Yep, the I won’ts win a lot which is why I take what ever challenge the fellow bloggers put out there. Even if it isn’t much a bit gets done.
I’m thinking of putting my first book up on this blog in another page. Just for more exposure. We’ll see. Hope you get more done that you are happy with. Can’t wait to see it.
I have a friend whose jaw gets locked sometimes when she yawns, luckily, she knows how to pop it back in!
It has never happened. I have worried forever it would. But the actress who was on the show explained that it was usually easy for her to release it. I think it is a case of keeping the muscles softened/relaxed to pop back in. Similar to those whose shoulders or hips go out of joint easily.
You yawn whoever your brain is in need of more oxygen. That’s why a yawn often occurs when we are tired.
Often when we are tired, we are taking quick, shallow breathes from our chest rather than deep, long, breathes from the abdomen. Some medications can also trigger yawning.
Just a little FYI. 😊
Edited because eyes and fingers on cell make huge mistakes!
Thanks for your comment. I wanted to include that information. So now, through you, I can. 🙂 But my question remains. Yoga is all about deep breathing. I do it mid-day. So I’m not tired. Still, almost immediately I’m in a constant yawn. Am I breathing too deeply? Are my muscles hogging the oxygen? It would be horribly embarrassed if this were a class.
