#JusJoJan 2024 Preview Stage

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is: starts with or contains “ph.” Find a word with the letters “ph” in it and use it as your prompt. Have fun!

Phrom now on ‘eph’ is spelled with ph instead oph with an “f”. Except this darn spell check will probably make me crazy just trying. Who was I kidding with this pheat? Just me. Pht!

Finishing Friday

I can’t stand having empty needles when I have yarn for them. So a new pair of socks started. Two-At-A-Time, Chiaogoo red-laced cable needles. Toe done.
Mixing leftovers from Son’s and his special lady’s socks to make a crazy pair. Again, Two-At-A-Time Toe-up, Chiaogoo red-laced cable needles.
I still have a lot of this yarn left. The family seems to like the slipper socks made from this. Two-At-A-Time, Toe-up, Chiaogoo red-laced cable needles.
And the challenge. Leg-Warmers. 7 inches done. Only 20 more to go! Two-At-A-Time cuff down. I’ve never done these before, but I’m learning as I go. 🤗

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

If you are wondering about herbs, homeopathy, essential oils, meditation, yoga, exercise, and general health, this is a great beginner’s book. I found I agreed with the take the author has about all of it, especially homeopathy. BUT it is too generic and elemental for me. I’ve been researching for my family and myself for fifty-plus years.

I think the Kindle is free, especially if you have Kindle Unlimited. I thought about rating the book at two stars, but there was a good reminder that I would research more. Gingo Bilboa. Lately, my husband and I have found we need more help with circulation and mental acuity. So, I think this book gave me a great reminder.

My friend Kay ensured I was reading this long before I planned to. Thanks, Kay! Now, to get onto the research.

One-Liner Wednesday

Home safe and sound, many doctors appointments ahead.

Part of Linda’s One-Liner Wednesday

Happy Boxing Day

We don’t celebrate this here in the states. But I found a movie on Amazon called Boxing Day. Similar to Love Actually.

Maybe you will like it.

Meanwhile, my husband went grocery shopping. He came home and called 911. He was having chest pains.

We were air flighted out and 20 minutes later we are in the emergency room. He’s feeling better. Lots of tests. No heart attack per first test. But they have a bunch lined up.

I’ll let you all know when we know.  Send your prayers and good thoughts.

Merry Christmas

Good thing I had to get up at 3:53AM. I peaked through the curtain and the porch was white. We weren’t expecting snow. Just in case it’s gone by morning, here’s proof the sky wanted to give Christmas Valley a beginning-to-look-like nod.

It’s still coming down.

My son and his beautiful lady came to see us yesterday. Today, during the day, they are driving back home. Spare a prayer for them and other travelers for Christmas love.

Rogue Protocol (The Murderbot Diaries, #3)Rogue Protocol by Martha Wells
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Far too short! I finished another book way before it was time to sleep, but finished this before I was actually sleepy!

All of the books in this series are fun. I love this murdering, well, programmed to do so, robot. Watching his conscience grow as he becomes a person in his own right is heartwarming and hilarious. In spite of himself, he protects the people and even other robots. The things he speaks in the inner dialogue the reader is privy to surprise or make you laugh out loud.

This book just felt like a continuation of the last two books, just a new situation to maneuver.

I have already put the next in the series on hold on Libby. If you haven’t discovered Libby, you should, especially if you have a lower-than-adequate income.

I just learned that Apple TV has this series. I’d love to see this acted out.

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is: “spruce.” Use it as a noun or a verb, use it any way you’d like. Enjoy!

Not a spruce. Just a trio of fake trees. A live pretend tree won’t get here until the day after Christmas. And it is Rosemary not spruce.
This guy always looks spruced up for the holidays. He just likes to photo bomb if the tree gets attention.

So with the health issues in the house we didn’t get to do much sprucing up around here, even though we have company coming tomorrow.

I’m excited that I get to see #3 and his special lady. And we plan, if weather permits, to finally hike to Crack in the Ground. I’ll take pictures and send the YouTube if we get to go.

And right on time these socks are ready for the new owners. I hope they fit. They fit on the blockers.

My brother has been busy. Our floor in the bedroom was so bad it was like tightrope walking. My husband fell and with a lack of good flooring it was hard to help him back up. Anyway my brother got busy and made a safer floor for us. No more falling. And he was the decorator, putting up and finally lighting our tree and window. We are so lucky to have him around.💜🤗

May all of you have a blessed Holiday, Christmas Eve, and Christmas.

My Grandmother Asked Me to Tell You She's SorryMy Grandmother Asked Me to Tell You She’s Sorry by Fredrik Backman
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The reviews on this book are all over the place. I think it might read differently if you read with your eyes. I was fortunate enough to pick the audio version up on Libby. Joan Walker (Narrator) made this book so fun and played the grandmother as well as she did the seven-year-old Elsa. She played the fantasy bits with so much energy that even the stories within the story jumped to life in my mind.

A friend recommended it to me when we were talking about the show A Man Called Otto that is on Netflix. I loved that movie so much that I have ordered the Audible version for later. But I love how the author, Fredrik Backman, blends unique characters with the mundane of life.

I have to admit to being taken aback that the author is male, as he brought up many of the issues of the modern woman and her family. I felt he wrote with a neutral point of view while holding onto the grandmother and the little girl and their individual visions of the world.

If I found this when my children were young, I would have read it aloud to them stopping to talk about the issues as they come up. There is a lot of cursing, but if a child of 12 hasn’t bumped into that in real life, you are keeping them under an imaginary rock, and you may not realize what they hear. So reading it as the grandmother and characters speak would give a person an opportunity to explain why or when that talk is appropriate, or not.

But even if you are reading sans children, you can enjoy it from your inner child. I highly recommend this book.
