The Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “fall from the sky.” Write about anything that falls from the sky–real, imagined, or idiomatic. Have fun!
These are some of the scariest words for me. We can see the small airport from our front windows. Especially these early days of spring there are a lot of small planes touching down and taking off. I assume they are the crop-dusters for all the alfalfa fields around here. I hope what they are dumping from the planes is healthy for people, pets, and livestock. I would not want to see something fall from the sky this close to the runway.
There will be a time, unfortunately really soon, I will be happy if water or other fire retardant falls from the sky on any fires nearby. They are already doing a great bit of ‘controlled burns’.
The other things that seem to fall from the sky are eagles, hawks, and ravens. As long as they divebomb the nearby fields and get the mice or gophers or snakes, I don’t mind. But they are part of the reason the dog isn’t allowed to go out without us being nearby. Still, as long as they live their lives cleaning up the varmint nearby, they are fun to watch soaring high and gliding on the drafts.
One of the prettiest sights out here in the country is when it snows and those big fluffy snowflakes fall from the sky. But that season has passed (I think, I hope).
Gees, I never really thought about how scary the thing I love best about the desert, the sky, is. But then, it isn’t the sky that falls, unless you are Chicken Little. It’s all the rest that can give you an ulcer if you let it. Ah! Nature!
Stream of Consciousness Saturday is the brainchild of Linda G. Hill!

Oh ! I agree about the crop spraying chemicals, I hope they are safe, the birds doing their jobs, snow, planes your countryside sounds like it has busier skies than the town’s 🤭
We lived down the street from the Reno/Tahoe airport and nearly across the street from the Atlantis Casino in Reno. Nope. These are quiet times! 🙂
This is true! Great post!
Well, thank you! 🙂
I’ve been living among so much thick vegetation so long, when I get out into wide open spaces, I feel like prey! lol It’s a thing. It’s not panicky like small spaces…
Big Sky Country. They call it that for a reason. But oh, the stars! 😀
The country would be a horrid place to have Chicken Little syndrome! And yes, I love taking Kali out at night to see Orion in the backyard and the dippers in the front! Shooting stars are so cool, no light pollution gets in the way.
Very nice. We just had a chat the other day about how we think we saw more shooting stars when we were kids. (Still in the city… but were there more? Or are we just not lookin how we were?)
I was in the city as a kid so I don’t think I saw them until I went to camp or on camping trips with the folks. There was a big meteorite shower when my kids were young. We did live in the desert (a different one) and we laid down on the lawn and watched for a long time. I haven’t seen one like that since. Still, I’ve gotten to know a few more constellations since living here. I’m not really knowledgeable about it but it seems like the word Pleadies comes into play about meteorite showers. Did I even spell that right?
I think you spelled it right.
I haven’t seen meteor showers in 25+ years!
My husband and I saw a shooting star last fall, in the city, and we commented the last one we both saw before that had been almost 20 years ago on a trip — in the mountains. That’s what got me thinking… We used to see them more.
I see them every so often. But maybe you’re right… need to do some research. Certainly, I don’t think I have seen many out here and I am outside at night more because of Kali than ever I can remember. Now you have me curious!
