Archive for July, 2020

I finished sock one this morning.

Isn’t it weird how colors change within the cell camera? This is actually a sea-blue not gray. The hook and KB Sock Loom are the true colors. Anyway, this was a toe-up. Toe is now finished on sock number two.

Trash pick-up and Zooming with friends proved to me it was Friday. Why should that be different than any other day? The TGIFs of the past no longer apply.

As much as I feel American and love this country, I never look forward to the Fourth of July. I worry about fires. I don’t mind those pretty fireworks that the fire department controls. But wreckless people buying their own and shooting them off willy-nilly. And every year there are fires.

Still, this year has so much going on. So I am hoping the patriotic overcome the political chasms between us and the pandemic helps us care for each other.

I’m cutting this short because I am reading about early America in Outlander 8.

The only clue that it may be Thursday is the trash it out. Luckily that’s not my job. Though I am often consulted to make sure it is the right day. Because nobody knows what day it is, do they? Family members asked me how my friends were. I had to explain it wasn’t Friday. But I had to look at my phone to make sure I didn’t have it wrong.

This is normally the day I give reviews of the streaming shows I’ve been watching. But all I have been doing is knitting and listening to Outlander 8, Written in My Own Heart’s Blood. No, I ran out of scrubby yarn so it’s back to socks. I have one pair ready for the brim. one pair just past the toes, and another sock nearly finished from the olden days when I did socks one at a time. I do have two hats but I just don’t like doing hats at the moments. I have plenty of yarn

Yep, nearly done with sock one.

Only cuffs to go.

Okay. I admit this looks crazy. Knitting four socks, or even two socks at a time can be a challenge on the X-Wing Fighter. The two on the right are the ones I have about three inches of toes in Jeweltone of Red Heart Soft, the upper left arm has the beginning of a sock but I am waiting for another skein of the yarn I’m using on that one. If it doesn’t come soon I will frog it and make something else. So I keep the skein in a baggy rubber banded on the proper leg. That keeps the yarn clean and untangled This loom feels like I am playing a strange musical instrument. It is large but easy to handle.

So maybe not exciting stuff. But hey, the alternative seems worse, somehow. I accept my boring life as it is still, life. So there ya go. Now back to the book. How will the American Revolution end? Or at least how will it treat Claire and Jamie?

OR

Which shall I use to make the planet? The all-knowing smile alluded to the blue.

In my head that was a one-liner. Maybe not if I need to add the rest. It was a gentle non-COVID19 dream. Obviously, two of my favorite things collided: Loom-Knitting and Sci-fi. The X-Wing (as I call it–CinDWood– can be used to make larger afghans or sweaters) loom above and the 24 peg baby hat Knifty Knitter. So if you choose to knit a planet one should choose the blue one.

On that thought and straying from the one-liner, what would you choose to take with you on the spaceship between planets? I see the shows and wonder how can they just sit there and not be knitting or crocheting that whole time. So many things could be ready at landing. Much worry and angst could be averted.
