Gnome and NaNo Update

Well, this morning I finished tiny sock number two.

It almost looks like a gnome already. But my cousin has given me ideas and the vague pattern I saw that got me started is in my head to do more. I cant wait to see how it turns out. By the way, working on the itty bitty socks was so much fun, I wish I could make tons of them!

Nano word count at this moment is 19,558 I need 500 words to take it over the requirement. Sorry, me. I had to watch Grey’s Anatomy crossover. And the living room got so cold I had to move to the bedroom with everything. Hopefully, the snow coming with warm us up a bit.

One-Liner Wednesday

Behold the boot of a gnome.

That was fun working on a keychain loom. I’ve started the second but I knew I had better get busy writing.

On that front, the word count is now 19,395.

Head over to Linda G. Hill’s site to learn more about this fun prompt.

Quick Word Count Update

17,381 And it is snowing beautifully outside.

Quick Update / Made it Monday

Well, there haven’t been a lot of words today. Less than 400. For some reason, I never got settled in front of the laptop enough to do anything. But I did find myself challenged by Gnome hats. I wanted to see if I could make a hat without sewing. Just decreases. And I was successful at that:

It worked! Yay!

I also finished the hat I mentioned yesterday.

Here is just off the loom and on the head. It’s a small adult or child’s size. I do love doing the cables on the Flexee loom.

Now I am either going to get a second wind and write for a while or hit the hay. I don’t know why I have been so sleepy today. Maybe the cold is causing me to want to hibernate!

NaNo Update/Word Count

Wow! It took me all day to finally get to the writing. I had wanted to do another character development. But the snow and distractions of the day kept me from the actual book part. I really didn’t get anything I planned done. I didn’t plan on a sink of dishes, which usually doesn’t happen around here because everyone takes care of their own dishes. But I got there to make my lunch and rather than sit and wait for my veggie patty and quesadilla to microwave, I did them. Kudos me!

I think my biggest distraction was this:

Front yard, back yard. We thought it was done. And even though the temperature was 28 degrees, the snow was melting in the driveway and street. But suddenly we got more.

Oh, but there was CBS Sunday Morning, which we didn’t get to until about 2:30 PM. I had caught the UU service on Zoom earlier. Meandered the stations while waiting for my husband to be free to watch the Sunday Morning and found Nightmare Before Christmas. I already watched it on Halloween but I love the music so I let that play while I knitted a hat. (I think that one will be finished tomorrow)

Of course, it isn’t Sunday without Zombies. So we watched last week’s Talking Dead, then this week’s Fear of the Walking Dead and Walking Dead World Beyond. I don’t know. I love the Talking Dead the best. I like the making of any show better than the show. It is when you see how much goes into a show that it stops being something you can judge and becomes a work of art. Make-up, cameras, directors, actors, all pulling together to make something to eat popcorn to. Humbling isn’t it. I would give you a review of these but I am reserving that until I see where the two series are going.

So finally, I was ready to write. The living room was so cold, even with the little radiant heater on 6, the highest, and me in my three layers, I didn’t think I could wiggle my fingers enough to warm up. So I took my stuff (it takes two trips!), to the bedroom and got set up in here. I hate sitting on my bed. It is an uncomfortable desk or place to knit. But it is warmer. We put on Pandora and played Celtic Women station. It is the best music to have in the background. Peppy and I don’t know the words so I don’t end up singing and not typing or typing the words into the story.

Today’s scene was on Haven. Since I am reading the first book a little at a time to my writing group, I am reliving my first characters landing there. So my newest character, who can now dragon, popped to Haven and is learning about the zoo and wishes and about the healing there. I learned so much more about Einstein the gorilla who can do sign language. And I never knew Fuzzy Wuzzy the elephant could fingerspell with the best of them. Oh, and he loves to read! Who knew? His favorite books are Dumbo, of course! And Haven helps him to fly! And

The Elephant Whisperer (Young Readers Adaptation): My Life with the Herd in the African Wild Lawrence Anthony  I’d never read it. I decided I need to know what my elephant character know so I bought the audio version with a credit. It sounds really good!

Then Violet met someone I never met in the zoo on Haven before: Ethel (I think will be her name) the giant tortoise. She communicates very slowly and Violet has to concentrate very hard so as not to be rude. She actually finds that this reptile can calm her brain and they fall in love with each other’s spirits.

Then, of course, Violet is hungry and learns of Haven’s way of granting wishes.

So much more. As you know the goal is to write 1,667 a day. The goal for today would be  13,336. The story was so much fun I manage 1,914 words bringing my total to date: 14,766. Yay! Me!

Look I know the frustration of sitting in front of the blank page and not getting any words. I know when that happened I type out gripes and complaints and whine. But this time, my characters are leading the way and I only have to type. Which is hard enough with fingers that forget to spell the easiest of words!

So now I am going to put the laptop away and listen to a book while knitting. Hopefully, I will get to sleep before 3AM!

The Believers (Breeders, #2)The Believers by Katie French
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I finished this book a couple of days ago. Snow, elections, NaNoWriMo, and other distractions got in the way of my review. Sorry.

This is the second book of the Breeder series. The story of the girl looking for her mother and aunt continues. It is far from an easy feat. But Riley and her boyfriend and her brother try to find a way to them.

The story kept me interested. Often I found it nauseating. I think that was the author’s intent. Still, I couldn’t put it down. Maybe it was the train accident effect? You can’t just let it go. You have to look. That is the very reason I just ordered the Kindle Unlimited version. I think the first and second are KU also. So what is there to lose? Find Aunty and Mom!

NaNo Word Count

So many distractions today. But at last I got some writing done. Violet can become a dragon having the genes to do so now. She is taking a couple days to wander around Haven. She finally met Einstein the hand signing gorilla. They are having a nice visit. She is finally not afraid of him. They found they had matching eye colors! Leather! Light tan like dry leather in the sunlight, dark brown like wet leather in the shadows or dark.

Anyway, I managed to eek out 1,766 bring the total to 12,852. That’s a little more than one fourth to the finish.

The cold weather is making me sleepy so I think I mozy off to bed.

Journaling This:

This is what I woke to this morning. I don’t think I have ever been so happy on any morning much less a Saturday morning.

~~~
In NaNo news, I found the face of Violet. Violet is 16. I put in Google: button nose, fierce eyes, Slavic cheekbones, sensuous lips (Violet thinks they are ugly but she’s a teen), and what came up and seemed in my head to match the closest was Dakota Fanning, but I just wasn’t buying it. But on the same page was her sister. Bingo! Picture a pixie haircut and leather brown eyes and it will be way closer.
Okay, I haven’t written for the day so no word count yet. I’ll pop in later when that is done. I thought it was hard to write when depressed and feeling angst. Writing when happy colors the writing. Luckily, Violet is getting to dragon-up and land on Haven. She will have some great news when she returns to the little hamlet of Violetsville!
We are needing to replace our flag as we have had it flying for months. We are respectable of our flag as we refuse to fly it in inclement weather. So here’s Old Glory in all her glory!
Unfortunately, the wind is tying it up in knots so we will bring it in. A new storm is blowing in on the horizon. It will bring us snow tonight with a low of 22. Then a high tomorrow of 32 and the low 13 for Sunday. <<Shiver>>
That is the current news de JOUR
2019-2020 SoCS Badge by Shelley! https://www.quaintrevival.com/
Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “jour.” Find a word containing “jour” or use it as is. Bonus points if you start or end your post with that word. Enjoy!
Finished Friday, NaNo Version
With the distractions of Steve Kornacki and his magic with math, (gosh, I wish I could do math like that, I have to use paper and pencil on more than single digits!) a great zoom meet with friends, worries of new stats of COVID19, getting around to actually writing was almost impossible.
But I did manage to finish another ear-warmer and start a slipper sock.
If it were not so late and needing to do the word count before midnight I would reorder how I am presenting this. But, reality. So…
I hardly ever get a good picture of Rosey. But there she was looking right at me in a place where she didn’t blend in. The light was good. But this is how that went:
Yeah, I’m not worried about taking a photographer’s job away. But isn’t she shiny?!
Okay, NaNo results. I was able to flesh out Violet. I really like her. I will run a search with her descriptions and see who she looks like tomorrow. Meanwhile, I did manage 1,705 with the grand total being 11,086. That makes me nearly ecstatic! The goal for today was to be 10,002.
Time for bed!
NaNo Word Count–Kate
After a full day of playing with a random number generator to pick characteristics from my favorite NaNoWriMo book Building Believable Characters by Marc McCutcheon
I have now build Kate into a character that is nearly breathing. I put the characteristics into Google and this is who they thought matched.
Babs or Cher, much younger. Kate is 25. And a bit chunkier though nowhere near fat. It is fun to play the random number game when trying to make a person. I am trying to do a character a day. Liz, April, and Kate are the main three from the first section of the book.
Violet popped up in the second section and I love her spirit but have no idea what she looks like. I need to work or her next. I’m thinking she is about 16 years old. Just discovering who she is and she is about to get huge!
Word count blossomed without any fuss today. 9,381 Today’s goal was to be 8335, so… I’m jazzed. Nothing like playing in another world while the one you live in is so full of angst!
