Just Jot It January–Speech

Some of the hardest times in my life were some of my best times. They are the times that I learned the most. They are the times I found love and lost love while facing myself. For me, one of those times was Speech class. It was way back when my age (71) was reversed. 16-17 years old. 10th grade. A TERRIFYING class. Yet the teacher was so fascinating. We debated using Robert’s Rules of Order; we argued and passed to legalize marijuana, prostitution, equal rights, and so many more restrictive laws and lean into misogynistic, bigoted ways. The arguments were from both sides as we were required to argue them from either side as the teacher assigned. I found all of it so exciting. Listening to everyone’s speeches intrigued me. The teacher’s input fascinated me. But one guy, who was a year ahead of me, was wow! I can’t even come up with a word that described his ability to take a topic and unfold something that seemed cut and dried to an eye-opener set of reasoning that left me breathless.

Somehow he ended up my boyfriend. For three whole months, I got to see how this guy thought in every way. Then he went back to his original girlfriend, who he is still married to, as I understand it. So I feel good at this age that he got such a sweet person to devote his life to. I feel lucky to have known him for that short time, but the Speech class became even harder for me after our break-up. Speech-making turned me into a puddle of sweat and nervousness. Seeing that beautiful man every day brought me to tears nearly every day.

Even after two years of Speech class, I find speeches the most horrid things to do. I did get to the point where I could do a little acting, I did like my drama class. And at one point, after a great amount of grief, I got to the point of loving to sing solos, anywhere. But it has been so long ago now that I think I’d have to relive the whole process to get up and sing alone. Give me a choir or chorus—no dancing or giving long speeches. I’ll save those for times when no one is watching!

Here are the JusJoJan Rules:

1. Just Jot It January starts January 1st, but it’s never too late to join in! Here, we run on the honor system; the “jot it” part of JusJoJan means that anything you jot down, anywhere (it doesn’t have to be a post, it can even be a grocery list), counts as a “jot.” If it makes it to your blog that day, great! If it waits a week to get from a sticky note to your screen, no problem!

2. I’ll post prompts at 2am my time (GMT -5). The prompt will be the word in quotation marks in the title of my 2am post. You don’t have to follow the prompt every day, but that will be where you leave your link for others to see. You’ll get a prompt for every day except Wednesday, when the prompt is simply my One-Liner Wednesday and on Saturday, when your prompt will be the Friday Reminder and Prompt for #SoCS, which will appear at about 9:30am Friday. Each prompt post will include the rules.

3. Please pingback or link to the daily prompt. To pingback, just copy the URL from the daily prompt post, and paste it anywhere in your post. Check to make sure your link shows up where you want it to, and go back occasionally to see other bloggers’ entries – the more you visit others, the more they’ll visit you! Note: A) The newest pingbacks will be at the top of the comments section. B) Pingbacks only work if you’re blogging on WordPress. Everyone else must paste a link manually.

4. Tag your post JusJoJan and/or #JusJoJan.

5. Write anything! Any length will do! It can even be a photo or a drawing – you’re going to title it, right? There’s your jot!

6. If your post is NSFW, do not pingback. Please leave your link in the comments with a warning.

7. If you’d like to, use the JusJoJan badge so that others can find your post more easily.

Happy New Years, Everyone!

One-liner Wednesday SNOW

There was little snow in the morning, then mud, now snowing like it should have on Christmas Eve!

If you would like to participate in this prompt, feel free to use the “One-Liner Wednesday” title in your post, and if you do, you can ping back here to help your blog get more exposure. To execute a pingback, just copy the URL in the address bar on this post, and paste it somewhere in the body of your post. Your link will show up in the comments below. Please ensure that the One-Liner Wednesday you’re pinging back to is this week’s! Otherwise, no one will likely see it but me.

Making Monday

Two hombre socks nearly finished. I think I’ll have enough yarn left over for another hat. I love my Flexee looms and they are perfect for socks! Even toe-up!

Meanwhile, Doctor Who is keeping my distraction levels up and pain levels down. 😎

Stream of Consciousness Saturday–Box

When I was young and I saw Boxing Day on my calendar I thought that it was about:

I’m not into sports, except maybe swimming. But I knew that baseball was spring and football was fall. Maybe the day after Christmas was like the championship?

Later I learned that it was a day to box up donations for the poor or even another gift-giving day. That sounds nice. I wish we did that here in the states.

Anyone else look over to an area in your house where there is a stack of boxes? Yeah, living in the country means that we have a lot of UPS deliveries. But now that we have outlawed plastic bags at the stores, we are getting more boxes. We can’t even break them down fast enough. And now I have several gifts that I need to send, yet there isn’t a box the right size.

Since this is a stream, I don’t want to box myself into a certain dialogue. Don’t box me in. Don’t put me in a box.

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “box.” Use it any way you’d like. Have fun!

One-Liner Wednesday

It is a time to keep it under the hat!

Just finished last night.

One joined Wednesday is a fun prompt brought to us by Linda G. Hill.

Making Monday

I finally have the half-fingered convertible gloves off the loom and ready to sew up. I need excellent light and the best glasses to do the sewing. These will go to the charity as this was donated yarn.

I found in my stash a huge ball of multi-colored yarn.

There’s got to be a couple hats and pairs of socks here. So here’s the hat is nearly half-finished

.

So with that holiday looming, I’ve got to be looming, even if the gifts get there late. Love is in the loom!

Yarn is a magnet that pulls in me,

My cats.

So before my cats notice I’m not knitting, I need to get back to it.

One-Liner Wednesday

Not to be redundant, but all this talk of vaccines is a shot in the arm!

Being allergic to albumin, the base to flu shots, and other health factors puts me in the more vulnerable crowd. I haven’t been out except to the dentist (tooth extraction) and Urgent Care (broken toe) and finally to the campground, since March! Still, I hope to take this vaccine when it is available. My allergy isn’t of the anaphylaxis kind; I just get sick for a week. I guess I prefer getting a little sick to near-death experiences.

As with Stream of Consciousness Saturday (SoCS), if you see a pingback from someone else in my comment section, click and have a read. It’s bound to be short and sweet.

Unlike SoCS, this is not a prompt, so there’s no need to stick to the same “theme.”

The rules that I’ve made for myself (but don’t always follow) for “One-Liner Wednesday” are:

1. Make it one sentence.

2. Try to make it either funny or inspirational.

3. Use our unique tag #1linerWeds.

4. Add our lovely badge to your post for extra exposure!

5. Have fun!

Tuesdays Tidbits

This morning’s snow. Not predicted. Tomorrow we are supposed to have rain. We’ll see.

By noon, the snow is mud, except right in the front on the house’s north side.

Decided to add a pom-pom to the hat on the left that is going to the same house as the hat I finished and pommed on the right. I loved this gifted yarn to make gifts with.

The hat on the right has a rolled cuff, as I thought I had better get it finished soon. This was on the Flexee skinny loom. It was so fun to work with. To decrease, I followed this tutorial, which works out so nicely.
