There is not a word more enigmatic than enigmatic. It is a mystery to me how this word even exists. I know I have run across it in my reading. Obviously, I know what it means. But it is a word I rarely use and I rarely hear others using.  But that is the prompt word provided by VirgobeautyIt certainly a word worth looking into and practicing a bit.

I was looking for a picture but there were far too many on Google images. Look it up for some fantastic pictures to represent the enigmatic word.

On another topic, I’ve been binging again. My son bought the whole series of Breaking Bad. I’ve been going through all the seasons for the past couple weeks. It was way better than I thought it could ever be knowing the plot. And it didn’t rate with my fem entertainment requirements as females were only support. But that could be solved if they could make a series about the women of the show. Those were very strong women.

Tomorrow I will talk about the other binge.

Well, this enigmatic blog is ready for bed. Good Night all!

#JustJotItJanuary brought to us by Linda G. Hill

Blogging has always been a part of me. Like the newspaper I tried to print when I was a kid.

Like all the Dear Diaries I attempted to write.

Then the internet came along. I tried several times from Prodigy on to have a blog.

But just like way back with the toy printing press, I never know what to say. Linda G. Hill has always had cool prompts to get my brain going. Just like Just Jot It January. There is something to write about every day.

What can I say? I think I like ‘journaling’ so that I can go back in time and see what was going on way back then. It is why I do book and movie reviews. I rarely write about the literary content. I try to include how it affected my life or how my life affected my interpretation of the book.

Same here. Except purer. A prompt can get the writing started. Writing is the aim. Fiction or non-fiction. Write. Writing is often lonely. Blogging brings friends. It’s a chance to share our intimate thoughts and find others who think in the same way.

***

The next question is how I came up with my theme. I’m unsure if this is the background that the words are on or the name and aim of the blog. The background is so I can read it with the least amount of eyestrain. I like the colors. As for calling it

Darswords

Musings about Havenverse
As one of my commentators stated, Darswords looks like Dar swords. And my reply was about the word is mightier than the sword. My inner thought on that is I need some swordier words!
Haven is the sentient planet that about 90% of the books that I have written for NaNoWriMo have been about. I need to get my books edited and out for folks to read. My possibilities list included getting busy editing. The blog is keeping that goal front and center.
How has blogging changed my life? I have met some cool people out in the blogosphere. Support overflows the nets as people drop by personal blogs and connect. I wouldn’t have met such great people had I not gone to their blogs and learned about their lives. So much better than Dear Diary, today I breathed in and out. Imagine if someone would have picked up that diary and asked me questions about the rest of my day or how did those breaths feel. Did the air feel cold or steamy as I respiration? Could it be there is boredom in living inside one’s head and not having the chance to explore what you might not have thought of on your own? That’s what blogging has meant to me.

Thanks, Linda for the fun of both of these challenges. Does it matter that there are several sentences in my one line?

Well, here we are again! Doesn’t it seem each year goes faster and faster? Yet what happened in 2018? Angst, worry, anger, and somehow we got through with much of our freedom and health still intact with hope in our hearts that it will remain so.

On a crafty note, I am so far behind in sharing the fun projects I got to make for Hat Huggers. So maybe I’ll start with a couple of the latest and over this month I’ll work backward over the past forgotten months of knitting/loom knitting. I’d start with what I’m working on but it is a present for someone and I don’t want to ruin the surprise.

The dolls are based on LoomaHat‘s comfort dolls. The blue hat was actually needle knitted.  I had a lot of that maroon and beige yarn so I made a few of these. Both are the usual hat patterns, with the 1by1 ribbing and the body of the hats knitted (the blue one I alternated regular (right hand) knitting and continental (left hand) giving a bit of texture.

On facing the future, I may have mentioned this to you last year, my friend and I try to write possibilities. We’ve been doing it for most of our adult lives. It isn’t resolutions which take willpower and belief beyond the normal range. Possibilities can be adjusted as you go or forgotten on purpose if not pressing enough.

This year I started with what I want to do. First is visiting with family and friends, regardless of how far away. I hope I can find a way to see many of them over this coming year. I’m happy I can see so many online, but that face-to-face/hugging stage is missing, you know? I won’t list them here to save their identities.

The want-to list brought up museums and lava sites and even a movie or two. Living an hour and a half from a major town means most trips are about grocery shopping and truck upkeep. So I’m asking my inner self for more energy to go to town for fun, too!

***

I had to give up my studio/hobby room when my son moved in last year. Now I find our place is tiny instead of roomy. So I added a clean/organize possibilities. I hope to clean a drawer a day (of the hobby plastic drawers.) I’m hoping to have drawers to put loose stuff roaming around the house (Yes, sometimes the four-footed polydactyl feline, Rosey, finds yarns and stuff to bring as ‘presents’ to us. It would be nice to keep my things cat-spitless.

AND the ugly one: clean the sweepers. I hate that job but vacuuming doesn’t happen with a hair-clogged mess. I may not be able to do the standup job as that job kills my back, but if I do the sit-on-the-floor cleanouts that don’t hurt so much maybe I can talk someone else in the house to do the sucking of the dust.

YUCK!!!!

Last on my list is to try and get here as often as possible to cover Jot It January, Reviews (books or entertainment), One-Liner Wednesday, Color Pages, Stream of Consciousness Saturday, Reviews of knitted creations, edits, and postings of my own books.

Oh, and I will finish those socks for my brother (they are a couple years overdue!)

Notice there isn’t a word about getting into shape or dieting? That doesn’t mean I won’t try as I can but I feel I already work hard at staying upright against arthritis and fibromyalgia. I do try always to eat right. But the pain makes getting out there, in the cold, next to impossible. Anyone know of a website for yoga/exercise for the couch potato or physical challenges? Preferably YouTube.

Jot It January and many of the bloggy adventures like the color pages, One-liner Wednesday, Stream of Consciousness Saturday are all brought to us by Linda G.  Hill. Join the fun!

Accounting for Precious Time

Where have I been since mid-August? Here it is mid-October. Basically, I’ve been MIA for two months.

I was enjoying Summer. Barefeet. Shorts. Warmth. Less pain. Knitting and reading continued. Writing and sharing didn’t. Sorry. I’ll talk more about all this later.

This is my first Stream of Consciousness Saturday for ages and I must go with the flow.

There is a reason that I hate shutting my curtains at the end of the day. Even though family members comment that everyone can see in and isn’t it creepy. Here is what I see right out my window.

It’s hard to decide whether the Season 6 disk 2 episode one, the lack of light, or that beautiful sunset needs my attention most. Course as I’m writing it has already happened. The light is on, the curtains pulled and watching Meg attempting to leave to find Glenn to tell him she’s pregnant as the whole community of Alexandria falls.

Yes, summer was full of binges. Game of Thrones, again, This is Us, Orange is the New Black, Wentworth, and so much more!

All the time knitting. Needle knitting and loom knitting. I have two going on three bags full of toys and hats to give to Hat Huggers. I think I took a picture of everything so far so I will share with you soon.

My husband’s shoulder (broken nearly a couple years ago January) was causing trouble so many trips (an hour and a half each way) to the doctor’s and ER. Seems it is nerve damage. But all these trips take it right out of me. It would be okay, but the road up and over the hills is so rough that neither of us could handle it without painkillers. And for days we find we have no energy. By the way, even my (40 something) son has these issues with that trip. We did a shopping day on Wednesday and find, even today, there is no energy and we are still hurting. If only they could get those roads smoother it might make that all more bearable.

Oh… NaNo. How many of you are planning to do this? I want to. I usually do it. SO I figured if I got busy writing here I might be ready for 1,667 words daily in a couple weeks. YIKES! A couple weeks!

SoCS is brought to us by Linda G. Hill. Thanks for so many fun ways to jump (back) into blogging, Linda!

Share Your World

A piece of clothing from your younger childhood you still remember?

I had a plaid dress. The primary color was purple but all the blues, reds, and yellows had me fascinated by the magic of the blends. I am still looking for that plaid just to see it.

Somewhere between these two I found on Google:

I, also, had a dress handed down from my fashionable cousin that had pink buttons along the scoop neck and the skirt was striped. For some reason, it reminded me of Good and Plenty candies.

Irregardless of your physical fitness, coordination or agility: If you could be an athlete what would do do?   Remember this is SYW, dreaming is always allowed.

I’d be an Olympic swimmer or swim the Channel as they say.

In a car would you rather drive or be a passenger?

Driver, unless stuck on the parkinglot of a freeway. I don’t like lots of traffic or town driving. I hate traffic circles!

What did you appreciate or what made you smile this past week?  I was so happy to get to see family and friends in Reno last week. And yes, it was a fantastic drive.

Share Your World is Cee’s fun project. Check it out here.

Here is what Linda G. Hill put out there for today’s prompt:

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “on the farm.” Find a word that has a farm animal sound in it, i.e. sMOOth, and use it in your post. Bonus points if you include three or more. Have extra fun!

So I started playing with the onomatopoeia:

Baaad Cockadoodledoo gobble cluck Neigh oink quack move movie

I’m sure there are more noises. Why did I feel Linda took them all with sMOOthie? There’s plenty to work with here. I’ll scratch the rooster crowing but maybe I can figure out something with the rest? I hope it isn’t ba-a-d.

So today is C’s birthday. I feel sorry for him as his whole life he’s had to share with Mother’s Day. But he kindly decided to share it with me. I told him I wasn’t his mother. But he wanted to share anyway. But did I have to gobble down three pieces of pizza? Neigh!

We didn’t watch a moovie. Instead, we watched The Zoo all day–you would think there would be plenty of words I could yoink from that. Neigh, again!

Well, looks like I’m out of cluck. This is the best I could come up with. My stream of consciousness is a mere dribble today.

Happy Moother’s Day to all of you that are or have one.

So let meowt of here! This is Ruff!

Asked my husband for a one-liner. Here it is. I blame him!

What’s the difference between a doorknob?

1-Liner Wednesday is brought to you by Linda G. Hill.

We Forgot What?!

About a half hour into our drive Thursday we realized something dreadful. We forgot my cd case. There was a hole in our truck the size of this:

 That meant   YIKES!!!!

What is a road trip without music?

Obviously, we didn’t have time to turn around and get my case. I know you more hipster types will say what about your phone? We live in the middle of nowhere, remember? Hardly a satellite ray gets through all this nothingness. And our phones don’t hold much of anything so downloaded music wouldn’t help either.

“I guess we’ll just have to talk to each other.” My honey said. We laughed. And then for most of the hour and a half drive to the next city, we said a few words to each other.

We ran into the store full of hopes of CDs. And it was time for dog and people relief. When I could, I walked to the electronics department, asked if they had CDs. There was a sales display with mostly DVDs but in the back were two CDs. Peter Frampton and Lionel Richie. No offense to the PF fans, but I chose Lionel Richie’s CD because a lot of his best songs were there. I could picture myself singing these for a while. Hello!

By the time we got to Portland, I was hoarse and beginning to tire of RL. But he got us there and helped me not get out of the car during the traffic jam stops.

We knew we would need more music to get through the five hours going back, even though we chose a different route to enjoy. Both ways were beautiful scenery for the eyes. Hubby and I had fun in spite of ourselves. But about three hours in, I longed for something else to sing. I thought about what I didn’t have in my case at home and John Denver and The Supremes came to mind. I figured if I found them they would be cheap,  like the RL, only $5!

But, NO. The only thing that appealed to me was a Beatles CD. It looked like it had a couple discs so I thought the $19 worthwhile. (Turned out one of the discs was a DVD). Ah, but I needed something for Hubby. I found a Celtic Woman that I didn’t think we had in either of our cases. By the way, he has a case, too. But I was the driver so the music needs to be there for ME!

I can’t tell you how happy that Beatles CD made me. I was rockin’ out and proving that I could remember most of the words. I missed friends–Kay, and her sisters and times of dancing and acting silly back in the day.  And my Potpourri (<–a group I sang with a long time ago) friends and our harmonizing Beatle toons on our way to and from the recording studio. Yep, you heard me right. The group was making a Christmas madrigally tape for friends and family. So Beatles and CW were expensive but worth the buy. I grooved to the Beatle CD until we were nearly home. 27 songs!!!

Then it was dark and I needed something soothing and to give my voice a rest:

Yeah, nope. I needed to pull over to the side of the road just to fully enjoy these voices and songs I could sing along with. I highly recommend everyone getting this–and the Beatles one. The Lionel Richie–well it was good for a long time but I bet I won’t listen to it again for a while.

By the way, my go-to music is usually Broadway musicals like Into the Woods, Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables, etc. Or books on CDs.

What do you listen to on long drives?

So, usually, I can get up and move on the prompt. In this case, it is ‘letter’. Thank you, Linda G. Hill for a seemingly simple prompt. Maybe it is because I have a whole lot to say and I can’t tie this in. YET, I have used it a couple times now–hehe.

Thursday my husband and I got to take a road trip to Portland. He had a minor procedure that he needed to have done on his toe and there are no VA podiatrists nearby. So the VA paid us travel expenses including gas and motel. We paid the $10 pet fee so that Kali could come, too. She was sort of happy. She doesn’t like road trips. But she hates being left alone even more.

When you have an appointment across town or even an hour or so away you can plan your trip accordingly. Planning something for five hours away leaves many variables. Such as, exits whose names are similar but for one letter. (See what I did there?) And that puts you in the wrong part of town.

Portland felt like Los Angeles and Orange County and Inland Empire all put together. I felt nothing weird at all. Just the irritation that had me leave the big cities a few years ago. “It’s called a freeway! Why does it look like a parking lot?” That quote is mine. This picture is the right area yet not nearly the traffic of which I speak.

We had to get there by 6:30 PM to check in to the Inn. But how can you know what the traffic will be like until you are smack dab in the middle of it? Luckily, I was in the non-stop driving mode so we didn’t stop for anything. And we made it there with an hour to spare. But now because we pushed so hard it was all we could do to order pizza and watch Grey’s Anatomy barely able to move. But look at this place. I was so happy to get to stay here at Shilo Inn. This is where Kali and I walked. It was beautiful. Only now do I find out they had a pool. Um, we have a follow-up appointment in June!!! Have bathing suit will travel!

The next day was the appointment. I played dog sitter while C went in to have the procedure done. We were alone too long so we had to take a couple walks around first in the garage and then outside. I was needing something to read. Finally got out my Kindle but that’s when he showed up in one Frankenstein boot and his normal shoe in a bag. Yes, he still had the other shoe on.

C’s toenail had been so damaged as a kid, it never grew out properly and now it was causing problems. So the doctor had to totally remove it and make sure it wouldn’t grow back. I have to admit that this whole thing grosses me out big time. I can’t imagine what it will look like and I thought he would need some heavy duty shoes to protect that piggie. I’ll spare you the pic of pig. But he is back to wearing regular shoes today.

Tomorrow I’ll talk about road trip distraction therapy.
