Title Much?

Or

Hashtag Much?

Get ready, this is April and I am connecting to all the things I am trying to do while, oh, I can’t resist:

So as the title suggests I am trying to remember #What Day Is It Anyway?

That’s easy. The trash is out for tomorrow’s pick up. I’m watching Grey’s Anatomy. Oh, yeah. this is Netflix. I decided I needed something to play in the background while I write. Hence rerunning from Season 1 on. I am now at Season 2 Episode 2: Deny, Deny, Deny.

I know. Why do I, with all this medical stuff going on, choose to watch medical shows, or disaster shows. If there is a psychiatrist out there, I hope they answer. Meanwhile, the most angst I get is how poor Meredith has to deal with her mother and how I relate. Differently, yet. I get it. ‘Ah, denial isn’t a river in Egypt,’ as Meredith says, ‘it’s an ocean.’. Seriously?!

We need yet another hashtag: #What Time Is It Anyway? I can’t believe that I was up since 7 (I usually don’t get up until 9:30 or 10. But as opposed to staying awake until 3 in the morning. Last night I didn’t read. But I hadn’t napped. So crash time happened at midnight last night. Ugh! Anyone else having weird hours? Geez! No wonder my brain is weirding me out if I leave it alone to its own devices.

So I thought about doing CampNaNo. But by the time sleep overcame me I had no idea what I was going to do. I couldn’t believe I was going to let one slide, but I assumed I’d deal with it. Below is a synopsis of what I’ve written so far. I think the story is actually better than what I tried here. But objectivity isn’t a quality I have during pandemics

I woke up hearing BBBB or 4B. Yeah, brain, shut up I want to sleep. I heard my new characters laughing in my head. I saw a pile of curly chocolate licorice. I didn’t understand why that was so funny. Then I saw my main character, Lizzy, whose nickname is exactly BBBB or 4B. Then I heard why. Lizzy and her friends had known each other since babies. Her friend April learned at a young age how to fix Lizzy’s hair from Lizzy’s mom. April’s first do was two ponytails. Lizzy’s mom gushed with, “Big, Beautiful, Black, Buns!” The girls had been so proud. And that is how Lizzy got that nickname. As teens, the guys found out and the nickname and teased Lizzy. But she cupped her ponytails and walked away with pride.

The pile of candy? What was so funny? Well, in the middle of a pandemic, when one sneezes on the candy that looks so much like those buns, and your best friend sneezes and you see the same thing, AND you almost pick up a piece of that candy anyway but the look on your best friend’s face reflects the same thing, you laugh. It’s what you do.

So now I have 1,579 words on my new NaNo I’ve titled ‘Pandemapolypse’. Who needs fiction when real life gives such crazy scenarios to start with? I need 3,334 words before bed. I’m a little less than halfway there.  So I best go get done!

And there my Sesame Street friends is #CampNaNo/#A-to-Z representation. Brought to you by:

According to Linda G. HillYour Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “key.” Use it any way you’d like. Have fun!

The key to a good series is good editing. Hey, that sound professional, right? Yikes, how do you writers do this part? Since I finished writing in November I have chosen to keep at it by editing. I chose to move back into the novel I wrote for CampNaNo (April 2019?) Haven in 3D. It was going quite well. I opened the project in both yWriter and Word and used Grammarly to get me through. I may not have everything in the final order, there may be big plot bunnies running around. But at least it will not have glaring grammar or misspellings. After I correct a scene I copy it from Word and replace the one in yWriter so that it is also corrected.

I got as far as chapter 6. Then I had a mass of questions about past characters and planet issues. Did you hear the screech of the sudden slam on the brakes?

Where did I hide the novel about all of this? The title is Earth the Final Frontier. That project has over 92 thousand words according to the yWriter project and 99 thousand words in the Word version. Why the discrepancy? I haven’t figured that out yet. But I am pleased and proud that I have that many words in one novel anywhere!

So now, shifting gears I am into the first chapter of ETFF. When I get far enough to find said characters and can get back to Haven in 3D I will have rescued the key element.

I have a build-in amount of time I can put into editing. It seems to be four or five hours and then I am spent. I am done with words. I feel like Eliza Doolittle, “Words, words, words! I’m so sick of words!”

So the key to good editing is knitting! Bye! Now, where is that little hook-doohickey?

(You see what I did there? hehe)

Today? Editing!

What is worse than looking at a blank page?

Editing!

I spent today editing my CampNaNo story, Haven in 3D. I don’t do it like the picture, though I think I might near the end. My process is: Open yWriter project. Open Word with the RTF of that project. Then I open Grammarly Pro. Though I don’t think I am down to the words but the actual overall story, why not fix what I can as I read?

After I have cleaned up a scene in Word, I copy and paste it back into the yWriter scene and move on to the next scene. I think I added 26 words. That was a surprise because at first, I was killing words left and right.  I spent from around noon to just an hour ago. I covered one chapter and two scenes from the next chapter. I needed to do this one to have all the information I needed for the one I just finished. It is fun to get back to the spring novel. It has all my favorite Haven characters. I can’t wait to get the series up for everyone to enjoy. It could just be me. I hope not. But if so I have had a fun time living part-time in another universe!

NaNo Update: Whew!!!!!

YAY!

There is no validator this year but I added a buffer just in case yWriter is less than a validator would have. Look at this if you want to see the life of a NaNoer:

I love the applause at the end! Writing is lonely work. Thanks for your encouragement along the way. It really helped!

NaNo Eve Update

Whew! I managed to get just the right amount for the day. Like being beaten to death by the characters in my head! 48,379 The light is at the end of the tunnel! I hope it isn’t a train!

NaNo Update-Two Left!

I hope you all had a Happy Thanksgiving! We had pizza. A high of 24 made it less appealing. But the snow, though ice, now, is still pretty.

46,703 I wanted more but I think the pizza and cheese were fighting the words.

Third to Last NaNo Update

Aren’t you excited? Maybe soon I will be doing real blogs again. And Knitting. …And editing…

That was my one-liner. The only blogging I’ve done this month. Thank you, Linda, for an easy one!

NaNo Update

I’ve had a pretty good run the last couple of days. Impending snowstorms for reals are happening on the planet Crim. I love it when the writing happens without my brain hurting! By the way, I wrote early as they are expecting such strong winds and blizzard conditions by 1:30. Oops! It is in two minutes. The snow is getting denser and the winds are picking up. I hope we don’t lose power. But at least in writing, I’m ready! 43,429 Take that!

NaNo Update

What a great writing day. The impending snowstorm here seemed to want to happen on Crim the planet where this story takes place. The story seemed to write itself. It was fun and written within a couple hours rather than a day sitting in front of the word processor getting only a few words per hour. I gained a grand total of:

41,831!

NaNo Update

40043 Not 400043. I couldn’t figure out why the NaNoWriMo site was congratulating me on winning. Oops! Extra zero. I fixed it and it was rather sad to see the winner ship sail away. Ah, well, I’ll see it in six (YIKES!) days. I hope your wordage is going great!
