So I finally caught up with the Wholloween Doctor Who marathon. We recorded it so I could watch it when I could. Does anyone still slip up and say taped? Yeah, I almost said that. I prefer watching recorded things in my own time and without commercials. Say, but this Flux first of this season, that scene that looked like witches on brooms was fun. I can’t wait to see more of this season! I was upset with the Marathon as they skipped around, Totally missed showing my favorite one, Dinosaurs on a Spaceship. I love Doctor Who. They don’t take themselves too seriously while still having some sciency sci-fi on occasion rather than just silly stories. And the action and music kept me writing with something to look at to rest my eyes afar for a moment. That is something that music, like radio, CDs, or Pandora, doesn’t have. I need that visual thing going on.

I am having fun and am caught up with La Brea. Between Jodie Whittaker and Zyra Gorecki, I think my hair is destined to that shorter bob. I really like their hair. And hey, congratulations, Hollywood, for hiring representation of amputees. I had to look that up. Anyway, I love the creativity of this show. I wish I could watch it more than one or two at a time. And since these are new to me, I get sidetracked from writing when getting engaged in a story.

Speaking of writing, I feel Crystal, my #Inktober/NaNoWriMo crossover, is growing nicely. As of this moment, I have 11,049 words in my story, and I can’t wait to get back to it and see what happens. Crystal’s eye-crystals have her causing hallucinations; she found that her aunts and grandmother have the same things in their eyes but different abilities, some a bit of a curse, like Crystal’s. I thought maybe I heard Haven calling. But she hasn’t put her two cents in, so maybe Crystal and her family can get the whole story done on their own.

Speaking of NaNo, I found this YoutTube that might help newbies:

Thus Thursday

The actual word count for my NaNoWriMo project, Crystal is 7,040. I will be writing more as soon as I’ve done some recorder playing. I’m trying to stay a day or so ahead while the story is calling to me as it will get harder and I will lose medical days so.. Yay! Me!

Just a note for future reference, the weather wants to be rainy but is windy instead. Yuck! We need the rain or even snow!

I’m almost caught up in the Doctor Who marathon. I’m finally up to Jodie Whittaker and the Rosa episode. I love this one!

Well, those recorders won’t play themselves.

How was your Thursday?

One-liner Wednesday

Fear is a superpower, fear makes us companions with all. (Doctor Who, Clara–Listen)

This is Linda’s One-liner Wednesday prompt.

Anyone else still wading through Wholloween? Sh! I’m still in the Peter Capaldi ones haven’t seen the new one.

One-liner Wednesday

Can the answer to Doctor Who be 42?

One-liner Wednesday is a easy prompt brought to us by Linda G. Hill.

UnFinished Friday

The above socks sans cuffs are among many projects not finished this week. Three days of appointments, two of which were out of town (two hours each way), kept me from my usual machinations. I had to look up that word. I’ll stick with it as it might make those who know me have a giggle. There are no evil schemes afoot—just my knitting, writing, and editing.

Dare I say this? COVID19 has made doctor visits more efficient. I take along
reading material and knitting for those sitting times. So far, that hasn’t happened
at all. Walk-in. Temp check. Empty room with empty chairs to fill out forms.
Then call to a solitary room—everyone with masks and lots of hand sanitizer. I
felt safe, and the jobs were done quickly and like a well-oiled machine. And no
uncomfortable waiting in a room of ill people. It is as though they have
figured out how to take care of individuals. I think that is a good thing. Now,
will they be able to maintain the good when things go back to ‘normal?’

Still, no time to sit and read or edit or knit or write while waiting.
Talking with my husband and singing happened. Those don’t have a finish line,
do they? I hope not. Well, soon enough, I will have new eyes, and I will be
able to read real books. I miss the tree books!

Well, back to knitting as I watch Doctor Who. Did you know that the first of
Christopher Eccleston’s Who is on HBO Max? He was my first Doctor Who. Though
David Tenet is my favorite. Had better writers been used, Jodie Whittaker would
have been. The actress did the best she could with what she was given.

By the way, if the URL shows up in the podcast, I’m sorry. I’m still
learning how to do this.

Making Monday

Two hombre socks nearly finished. I think I’ll have enough yarn left over for another hat. I love my Flexee looms and they are perfect for socks! Even toe-up!

Meanwhile, Doctor Who is keeping my distraction levels up and pain levels down. 😎

Galaxycon and a Monkey

Snow seems to be the new normal to wake to. I didn’t take a picture of it this morning because it was an early Kali ‘outside,’ and we went back to bed. It melted by the time I actually woke. It is snowing now—big beautiful flakes.

Sunday went along rather regularly CBS Sunday Morning after UU. Then a fun GalaxyCon. Here is the cutest moment:

It was so much fun that I actually had tears in my eyes when it was over. Guess I’m missing my Doctor Who fixes.

My brother put up the Christmas trees today as he had the living room to himself. It was too cold out there, so I stayed in the bedroom. Tomorrow we’ll put on the lights. That is always a cheer to the soul.

This evening my son and I continued watching Legends of S.H.I.E.L.D. Fritz was captured and was being held in a cell. As he was trying to figure out where the team was and how they were taken, he also kept track by drawing monkeys on his cell wall. I got distracted by my urge to draw, said the monkey. I didn’t do too badly and found it so much fun. I took a picture while the show was paused so I can play with the doodle some more.

Do you get distracted by a need to draw something? What this made me think of is the Kilroy was here doodle you used to see everywhere. I drew those on my class notes quite often.

With the prompt of the day, Silence, I couldn’t resist this:

For those who aren’t aware of Doctor Who… What planet do you live on?

Why is it that we equate silence with the sound of crickets? Anyone who has lived in places of many crickets knows that is a LOUD obnoxious sound! (I year in Coalinga, California taught me this.)

Simon and Garfunkel come to mind here as quieter sounds of silence.

I’d like to think that we have moments of silence out here in the boondocks. But there is a small airport within a mile from us. There are cows and coyotes and chickens and turkeys and a small amount of traffic in front of our house. The ambient noise is wind–Mariah?

Silence is Golden–wow! We in the rebellious 60s were yelling silence a lot!

It was lots of fun thinking of these songs. But really. Have you noticed that true silence can’t happen? Even if there is no sound. That is when you can hear your heart beating louder than a drum and the breathing noises and swallowing noises. the embarrassing stomach growl and oooh the worst, the fart. And the only place you notice all those noises is in church or maybe worse, yoga class. So maybe there is no such thing as silence? Or does it pass us by like those guys on Doctor Who? Maybe we need to litter our skin with hash marks when we notice?

The prompt, “Silence” was brought to us by Willow. See her blog, “Willowdot21”at  https://willowdot21.wordpress.com/

Once again, thanks to Linda G. Hill for the fun we’re having Jotting every day of January.

Doctor Who The Pirate Loop
Doctor Who The Pirate Loop by Simon Guerrier
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

What was I thinking? Me? Reading a paperback? These old eyes can’t handle that small font. I had to read it in short chunks, about 10 pages was all I could handle without my eyes hurting. But it was Doctor Who. My favorite Doctor. And I like Martha. So, since I knew the people I didn’t get lost like I might have without the visual aids in my brain. Also, this is a book full of dialogue to make the paragraphs short with lots of space between lines.

I only gave this book three stars. Not because of any great fault in the writing. But because there were things said and done that weren’t characteristic for the Doctor or Martha. Example: ‘Wosname’ is said often in Terry Pratchett books, but the Doctor doesn’t say this on the show. There were other bits like that that pulled me out of the program. For some reason I can’t remember the other examples.

Still it was a fun read and would be a great beach read. I think it would have been fun as an episode of the Doctor with David Tennant. And probably for those with good eyes this would be a quick read.
