Accounting for Precious Time

Where have I been since mid-August? Here it is mid-October. Basically, I’ve been MIA for two months.

I was enjoying Summer. Barefeet. Shorts. Warmth. Less pain. Knitting and reading continued. Writing and sharing didn’t. Sorry. I’ll talk more about all this later.

This is my first Stream of Consciousness Saturday for ages and I must go with the flow.

There is a reason that I hate shutting my curtains at the end of the day. Even though family members comment that everyone can see in and isn’t it creepy. Here is what I see right out my window.

It’s hard to decide whether the Season 6 disk 2 episode one, the lack of light, or that beautiful sunset needs my attention most. Course as I’m writing it has already happened. The light is on, the curtains pulled and watching Meg attempting to leave to find Glenn to tell him she’s pregnant as the whole community of Alexandria falls.

Yes, summer was full of binges. Game of Thrones, again, This is Us, Orange is the New Black, Wentworth, and so much more!

All the time knitting. Needle knitting and loom knitting. I have two going on three bags full of toys and hats to give to Hat Huggers. I think I took a picture of everything so far so I will share with you soon.

My husband’s shoulder (broken nearly a couple years ago January) was causing trouble so many trips (an hour and a half each way) to the doctor’s and ER. Seems it is nerve damage. But all these trips take it right out of me. It would be okay, but the road up and over the hills is so rough that neither of us could handle it without painkillers. And for days we find we have no energy. By the way, even my (40 something) son has these issues with that trip. We did a shopping day on Wednesday and find, even today, there is no energy and we are still hurting. If only they could get those roads smoother it might make that all more bearable.

Oh… NaNo. How many of you are planning to do this? I want to. I usually do it. SO I figured if I got busy writing here I might be ready for 1,667 words daily in a couple weeks. YIKES! A couple weeks!

SoCS is brought to us by Linda G. Hill. Thanks for so many fun ways to jump (back) into blogging, Linda!

Here is what Linda G. Hill put out there for today’s prompt:

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “on the farm.” Find a word that has a farm animal sound in it, i.e. sMOOth, and use it in your post. Bonus points if you include three or more. Have extra fun!

So I started playing with the onomatopoeia:

Baaad Cockadoodledoo gobble cluck Neigh oink quack move movie

I’m sure there are more noises. Why did I feel Linda took them all with sMOOthie? There’s plenty to work with here. I’ll scratch the rooster crowing but maybe I can figure out something with the rest? I hope it isn’t ba-a-d.

So today is C’s birthday. I feel sorry for him as his whole life he’s had to share with Mother’s Day. But he kindly decided to share it with me. I told him I wasn’t his mother. But he wanted to share anyway. But did I have to gobble down three pieces of pizza? Neigh!

We didn’t watch a moovie. Instead, we watched The Zoo all day–you would think there would be plenty of words I could yoink from that. Neigh, again!

Well, looks like I’m out of cluck. This is the best I could come up with. My stream of consciousness is a mere dribble today.

Happy Moother’s Day to all of you that are or have one.

So let meowt of here! This is Ruff!

So, usually, I can get up and move on the prompt. In this case, it is ‘letter’. Thank you, Linda G. Hill for a seemingly simple prompt. Maybe it is because I have a whole lot to say and I can’t tie this in. YET, I have used it a couple times now–hehe.

Thursday my husband and I got to take a road trip to Portland. He had a minor procedure that he needed to have done on his toe and there are no VA podiatrists nearby. So the VA paid us travel expenses including gas and motel. We paid the $10 pet fee so that Kali could come, too. She was sort of happy. She doesn’t like road trips. But she hates being left alone even more.

When you have an appointment across town or even an hour or so away you can plan your trip accordingly. Planning something for five hours away leaves many variables. Such as, exits whose names are similar but for one letter. (See what I did there?) And that puts you in the wrong part of town.

Portland felt like Los Angeles and Orange County and Inland Empire all put together. I felt nothing weird at all. Just the irritation that had me leave the big cities a few years ago. “It’s called a freeway! Why does it look like a parking lot?” That quote is mine. This picture is the right area yet not nearly the traffic of which I speak.

We had to get there by 6:30 PM to check in to the Inn. But how can you know what the traffic will be like until you are smack dab in the middle of it? Luckily, I was in the non-stop driving mode so we didn’t stop for anything. And we made it there with an hour to spare. But now because we pushed so hard it was all we could do to order pizza and watch Grey’s Anatomy barely able to move. But look at this place. I was so happy to get to stay here at Shilo Inn. This is where Kali and I walked. It was beautiful. Only now do I find out they had a pool. Um, we have a follow-up appointment in June!!! Have bathing suit will travel!

The next day was the appointment. I played dog sitter while C went in to have the procedure done. We were alone too long so we had to take a couple walks around first in the garage and then outside. I was needing something to read. Finally got out my Kindle but that’s when he showed up in one Frankenstein boot and his normal shoe in a bag. Yes, he still had the other shoe on.

C’s toenail had been so damaged as a kid, it never grew out properly and now it was causing problems. So the doctor had to totally remove it and make sure it wouldn’t grow back. I have to admit that this whole thing grosses me out big time. I can’t imagine what it will look like and I thought he would need some heavy duty shoes to protect that piggie. I’ll spare you the pic of pig. But he is back to wearing regular shoes today.

Tomorrow I’ll talk about road trip distraction therapy.

I’m once again behind. A day of driving around yesterday. We got a late start. Didn’t know where we were going. Why isn’t there a real

to mark the spot? We were looking for a Habitat for Humanity ReStore to find bookshelves and dressers. Got there just as they closed leaving us to settle for Wally World.

We didn’t like the dressers but found a cube bookshelf that could hold cloth baskets and eventually, if we find a better dresser this could stand up and be for books.

Long day. Plenty of pain, on many levels. Kali didn’t get to go so she gave me quite the lecture when I got home.

This “dresser” bookshelf was fairly easy and outside of missing a locking screw–WHY??? turned out to look like its picture:

That was how it looks on the box. We haven’t put it in its home yet so can’t take a picture of how it turned out.

The real bookshelf… Says on the box that it is 71 in high but comes in a box half that height. The instructions were horrid!!! WHY???? Here’s how it looks on the box:

We finally got ours to look like that without the stuff. It seems upside down as it turns out but we fixed it. Now it needs a wall to put against and help to restrain it. Then a bunch of books will find their new home and a dining room might emerge from the walls of boxes. Yes, all from my hobby room that is now my son’s room.

The easiest project was the coffee table that turned out way smaller than I thought it would be–so I need another or a storage hassock or something. Here’s how the coffee table looks on the box:

It will be nice not to have to drag my TV trays around the sofas so that I can knit and compute. But now I need to have coasters. LOL!

SO this was a SoCS brought to us by Linda G Hill

With a little of the A to Z Challenge mixed in. If you couldn’t tell X and Y were the letters of the day for me.

This Stream of Consciousness Saturday is brought to you by Linda G. Hill . The prompt is ‘mon’. That doesn’t fit where I am on the A to Z challenge. I’m on ‘N’. By the way, my friend, John Holton notified me of the real A to Z Challenge if you click on the one that’s underlined you can go to the original and learn how it is supposed to work.

When I first saw the prompt this is what I thought of:

And who could think of anything else once they see the monkey in a monocle?

But since my own challenge puts me on the letter ‘N’. I will continue the stream of consciousness. And my stream leads me to say, “Never did I ever think I would see a monkey in a monocle!” There are the wonders of Google!

Oh, and though I got to go for a walk today, the best word of the day was NAP! I know I won’t sleep tonight but the best sleep in the world are those wonderous naps that come up on you when you least expect them.

Not much of a brain to stream right now. The not my doors were these:

Now I am a licensed driver again. But too tired to care. I’ll try to write more later. There will be a rant. But not much of one. There will be a few book reviews coming soon.

Anyone else binging TWD? Yeah, if it wasn’t for that I would be asleep. This weather is messing with me. In one day we had all four seasons!

TTYL!

#SoCS = Linda

I forgot there was a prompt for today. In fact, I have a few of them. One from Linda G. Hill for Stream of Consciousness Saturday and the other two from a friend on a writing group on FaceBook. In that order: In other words, Rabbit, Rabbit, and Errant. (Thanks, M)

Well, this nearly writes itself, doesn’t it? Except rather out of order.

Rabbit, Rabbit = Bunnies! In other words, these two rabbits get together as adult rabbits do and, possibly they leave the party rather errant in their mission. Must I spell it out? The horse would have died? They used to use rabbit urine or something to prove pregnancy. Oh, heck, I need to look this up.

Okay, didn’t want to lose the stream in that–quick look up a pregnant woman’s urine would cause the rabbit to ovulate. Didn’t get far into the horse part as I felt an unfairness going on. What? To prove the human woman is pregnant the poor bunny had to endure the horniness of ovulation? How fair was that to the poor bun-bun? I fear my stream is spilling over the edges of propriety here. I will be considered errant if I follow almost any thought patterns beyond this point.

On the other hand, this sent me on a stream of research then into stream of horses for menopause. Oh, how errant can this stream go? I think I should have quit. In other words, never mind!

Occasionally the occupant of this room (me) tries a different occupation. As most of you know, I love loom knitting. But I crocheted most of my life and had learned to knit as a teen. But when I found how little pain I got with the loom as compared to the other hobbies, I stayed with the favored one of my hands.

Today I saw a Youtube that I thought was going to teach me a new pattern for the loom but I was wrong. It was a way to cast on for knitting by using a crochet chain. Best of those two worlds! I couldn’t resist. I had to try. Now On Casted (OC) I’m left with the actual knitting of the thing. Sigh! Let’s hope I don’t have to have occupation therapy for this! By the way, I’ve added this to my projects on Ravelry. I’m darravels over there. Here is the creator’s Ravelry: https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/copycat-cc-beanie

Have you watched Blue Planet? It is a favorite for me if I have insomnia. But somehow I needed a background show first to nap, then to attempt this new pattern. BBC was playing Planet Earth II when the nap overtook. Then it changed to Blue Planet. I love the ocean. I had wanted to be a marine biologist at one time but… life.  One can learn a lot when busy doing something else. 🙂

Oh, speaking of watching something. (This is Stream of Consciousness Saturday, right?) Before the nap, my honey and I were watching The Kindness Diaries. My friend recommended it as it is about to be taken off Netflix. Bring your Kleenex, not for the sadness but the overwhelming kindness that is shown. I’m on the last one where Leon is in Hollywood. What a beautiful story!

Here is Leon’s site: http://www.leonlogothetis.com/netflix/  And who knew? He has a book!

Needless to say it’s on my wish list.

But if I get as far as Hollywood, I need to see my favorite part of California (Unfortunately, they are the more expensive parts, which is why I don’t live there.)

Santa Barbara, Sunset over the Pacific Ocean at Arroyo Hondo Beach near the city of Goleta in southern California.

And my favorite place to walk:

Near lifeguard station 69 in Newport Beach, California in Orange County (OC)

Okay, Linda G. Hill, do I win?  She brings us both

with the prompt of ‘oc’

and

Go over and see how this works. It’s fun and keeps me writing every day. Thanks, Linda!

Saturday is a different animal in the Just Jot It January fun, Saturdays are always, Stream of Consciousness Saturday. Still, both prompts and rules can be found on Linda G. Hill’s website. Come join us with your own versions!

I went to the library today. It is not a thing in other areas I’ve lived in that I get two calls in a week, from the librarian just checking up on me. I had nothing checked out so there was no other reason. So on this second call, I knew I ought to go show my face. I love our little library and the librarian. It is the knowledge center of our tiny community. We have a lot of churches here, but no bars or other places of gathering. The library is it! So after a delightful chat with the few that were there and her majesty Julie, I decided to check out a few picture books and a book that looks like I could read it.

That is the book I reached for to pick the sixth, seventh, and eight word as the prompt suggests. I didn’t want to use the beginning of the book. I just opened where it fell and found on page 133 of Bittersweet by Susan Wittig Albert. The words were: “the sound of”. The next word is gunshots but I thought that would be cheating so I won’t follow that path.

Because the newest Pirates of the Caribbean is on Netflix we are watching our set of four DVDs before watching the new. We have the first three fairly well memorized so I often find I get napful.  So I drifted off to sleep to the sound of “Why is the rum gone?” and the marvelous music by composer Klaus Badelt and producer Hans Zimmer … That is the thing that pulls me in on these films. I love the stories and the actors but the music… It is my music of choice when writing. During NaNo when most things are distractions, especially music with words, I can go to Pandora and put on Pirates or Game of Thrones music and write for hours. It gives me energy and excitement.
