One-Liner Wednesday

Thank you, Linda, for One-Liner Wednesday

I’m tired but still need to write 707 words before bed. 👋

Words, Words, Words!

Suddenly My Fair Lady is playing in my head!

Anyway, here’s the word count.

No, I’m not finished. The screen shot didn’t quite work right. 931 words needed to achieve my lesser goal. Certainly not 50k. But I still like the story so I need to keep working it. 17k till the 50k. I guess that will be the goal for December.

I have to say that what happened, besides crazy life of leaks, old dog, dying kitty, electrical issues (the guys replaced two breakers today-finally the house is getting warm) is starting the new crew mid-flight makes a new book mid-writing. I think there’s a way to do it. But like I said with all that was going on my muses couldn’t find me.

Time for bed!

Friday Eve

Works in progress.

I don’t know if I am more proud of the hat or finally used all that fuzzy yarn up. The yarn at the top is leftovers. Enough for toys, I guess. I’ll share the finished project tomorrow.
Progress so far.

I’ve only written 412 words so far today. Total in project 4,683. It’s fun so I need to get back to it. The family Pensées is so interesting! I know, it’s all in my head. LOL!!!

My first character developed after midnight. She has never seen her own face. Her reflective gift/curse is that she has always seen ghosts in the mirror or even the shiny ball when she was three. And the spirits talked to her and sang with her. Her parents thought that she was cute with her little imaginary friends. Tonight I shall dedicate the writing to All Saints Day. I hope it will be a meaningful write. (Word count 1,697 so far)

And it has been snowing since early this morning.

Sorry for the shaking. I was excited to see this beautiful scene. And grateful to have a bit of relief from the drought.

#WDIIA Editing Day!

NaNoWriMo is doing another group push. It’s called Now What 2022. It helps to have these things to try to kick me in the butt to get my editing and more writing done. So for my own accountability, I’m keeping track of words as I add my second Haven book back into the newest version of Writer. I wrote this and Haven back when the program was newish. yWriter5. We are now to yWriter7. I am nothing but redundant in my saving my WIP. So I consistently save the day’s writing in that program to RTF. Now decades later, I am glad I did that.

In this case, I can find my book, Haven Above and Beyond, open it in Word, and then use Grammarly to help me weed through and make a better version, if not rewrite the whole thing to make more sense. And as I enter it into a new yWriter7 project, I can count the word as I paste the worked-out bit in. I set my goal to 25,000 words. I have a few of my other books set up with the same goal because I might feel like moving around. I am not good at editing. I love the adventure of imagining a new story. But jumping into the mess and fixing what already played out as a movie in my mind, I miss a lot, and fixing things just doesn’t come easily. So the word count to date is 2,949. There are two scenes within that that are entirely yellow highlighted as I hate how it reads and will have to totally rewrite them. That’s okay. I’m glad I can see the awful within that movie.

So between editing, Diamond Painting, making a new charity hat while watching Sweet Magnolias, Duolingo, finding the moments to walk or play the recorder, and having a high need dog, I can get pretty turned around. I am grateful to be retired, with nothing but time. But there is never enough even without a job hogging it up.

Oh! Did I mention that in our tiny little community that had one gas station/convenience store and a tiny grocery store, both of which are charging twice as much as they used to, and even then, they were high? We just got a Dollar General. My son and brother went the other day. They came home and told me that it was a TARDIS of a shop, bigger on the inside. My husband and I plan to check it out tomorrow. Who knew, back in my big city days that I would be this excited to go into a Dollar General?

I’ll try to get my own pics tomorrow. As if most of you haven’t seen a Dollar General! 😂

Thus Thursday

The actual word count for my NaNoWriMo project, Crystal is 7,040. I will be writing more as soon as I’ve done some recorder playing. I’m trying to stay a day or so ahead while the story is calling to me as it will get harder and I will lose medical days so.. Yay! Me!

Just a note for future reference, the weather wants to be rainy but is windy instead. Yuck! We need the rain or even snow!

I’m almost caught up in the Doctor Who marathon. I’m finally up to Jodie Whittaker and the Rosa episode. I love this one!

Well, those recorders won’t play themselves.

How was your Thursday?

Making Monday

Yes, knitting still happens during NaNoWriMo. Especially while I wait for the computer to warm up or while thinking through a plot issue. Here’s the hat that I totally frogged and began again.

This is a combination of the blue and pink of the last two hats. It seems to come out a bit of grey this way. It feels as soft as the other two hats, and I think it will be warm for ears with the double layer brim.

I still have two pairs of red Christmas socks in the making, but the hat is taking the hands hostage. Who knows why some projects win for the day, and others have to sit and wait? They’ll all get done.

Crystal has moved from my #Inktober project to my NaNoWriMo project. I had a little story that I am rewriting as I am adding to my yWriter. Though this may be a rebel month if Crystal proves to be a short story rather than a full-blown novel, I have other projects to get my wordage to grow in. But after today, I am beginning to think this may have possibilities. I managed 2,613 words today. A lot of that was character development. The more I develop her, the more she becomes real, even if her stressful ability is one I’ve never heard of before, so I have no idea how it works. I still feel more that I want to write, so I think I’ll get back to it.

Just a word of guilt. Except for the slightest tootle yesterday, I haven’t touched my recorders in four or five days. I wrote up a schedule, but the world and I disagreed with how it was written. Obviously not in stone! And, once again, I missed my Easy Writers Zoom Meeting. I set an alarm, but that was for the exact time or within five minutes. But you know ADD means if I am into another activity, I can’t just walk away. Next week I’ll set the alarm for 5:30 to give me the time to get out of whatever project and sit and tootle some while waiting. Which may be the way to creep the music back in. I hope to do a toot or two tonight to break up the extra writing.

You see, I want to get a few days ahead. I know that the second Friday of this month is my eye consultation, and that same day I get a COVID test in prep for an upper GI to see why I am a constant heart burner. My doctor thinks it is a hiatal hernia. I guess we’ll see soon. Anyway, there are two days I might not get the chance to write. And though it hasn’t stopped me any other year, there is Thanksgiving. Heck, I’ve sat on the floor at my daughter’s house with my laptop, and while we all visited, I typed away. I tried to stay focused on my loved ones while the story flowed through my hands. I can’t promise it was well done, but it was words in the story!

So without further ado, lots to do before I sleep!

Last of the word count: WriteItNow reported to me that I had 80,129. I know I started with 25K from my CampNaNo experience in March. NaNoWriMo gives the goal of 50K. My goal then was 75K.  I increased my yWriter by finding the missing chapters and scenes and my RTF in Word, where I found others missing from the other two programs. I think as I go through the edit and fixing yWriter7 problems, I will find the missing bits. Once I have everything moved from the unstable (for me) to Scrivener and a new Word file, I will feel this book complete. It is weird to think, ‘Did I write a scene with … or was it a dream?’ And then to find it again is like Christmas!

I will continue today’s writing as I have a scene that is dancing in my head. Then I will start that scene by scene editing and possible rewriting. I am not tired of this story or the characters. I hope someday others might like it. My first four chapters of the first book, Haven, can be found here. The whole book is here. I was a new writer, but the characters and the sentient planet have been my life for nearly two decades!

NaNo Word Count–Kate

After a full day of playing with a random number generator to pick characteristics from my favorite NaNoWriMo book Building Believable Characters by Marc McCutcheon

I have now build Kate into a character that is nearly breathing. I put the characteristics into Google and this is who they thought matched.

Babs or Cher, much younger. Kate is 25. And a bit chunkier though nowhere near fat. It is fun to play the random number game when trying to make a person. I am trying to do a character a day. Liz, April, and Kate are the main three from the first section of the book.

Violet popped up in the second section and I love her spirit but have no idea what she looks like. I need to work or her next. I’m thinking she is about 16 years old. Just discovering who she is and she is about to get huge!

Word count blossomed without any fuss today. 9,381 Today’s goal was to be 8335, so… I’m jazzed. Nothing like playing in another world while the one you live in is so full of angst!

One-Liner Wednesday–Air

What do you call air with an aire?

I woke up with that witty or not so much on my mind. I wasn’t sure why. But it’s a one-liner of sorts. If it were on one line.

Anyway, I will be naming the town Violetsville, thanks to Willowdot21, who also did a beautiful one-liner. Click on her name.

I developed my second character today. When I was done pulling in the descriptions, I presented them to my husband. Who looks like that? I asked him. He suggested Felicia Day. April will have shorter hair anywhere from platinum blond to purple or even a Mohawk. So here is vaguely what she looks like:

The word count is 7,374. Moving right along. Despite what is going on in the world.
