Archive for January, 2018

I dunno. Maybe not so much. But I liked the cartoon! What I am really aggravated about is how I have known this prompt all day and only now at nearly midnight have actually sat the laptop on my lap and started doing something about it. I don’t blame old age, although it does play a part. I blame ADD. I have been so busy all day and here at the end of the day, I can’t figure out what I have done! Pure aggravation!

If you like prompts to help you write every day,  join us for Just Jot It January. You can find out the rules and ideas here.  Linda G. Hill is our inspiration! The prompt is courtesy of Fandango check out his blog, “This, That, and the Other” Here’s Fandango’s blog: https://fivedotoh.wordpress.com/

I just went through this list and put everything on wishlists. Maybe you’ll find something interesting here, too. Thank you Elfkat for posting this!

All these books and movies about bondage and humiliation. Just wait. As you get old you will learn daily of pain. You will learn the meaning of the word humiliate. There is no safe word.

Just Jot It January is brought to you by Linda G. Hill. The prompt is courtesy of  Jim of “A Unique Title for Me”

Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White HouseFire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House by Michael Wolff
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

When I heard this book was being banned by the president, I knew I had to read it The surest way to get me to read something is forbid it. The way to get me to avoid a book is to assign it.

We picked up the Kindle and the Audible but it wasn’t WhisperSynched. So I gave up trying to get them to work together and chose to listen to the author read his book. He did very well. And his writing kept the reader engaged.

As for the information, it is all the stories we have seen acted out since last January. It often felt like reruns but just when you felt that, you would see newer information as to why those things might have happened. Not from the author’s eye but his eyewitnesses who gave testimonies of what they had seen/lived in the White House.

I’m not going to tell you to read it. You will or you won’t. I found it interesting and am glad I read it. You judge for yourself.

One-Liner Wednesday and Just Jot It January are fun ways to keep journaling or blogging. Stop by Linda G. Hill’s site to see how this works.

Why is it that the more things I knit, the more yarn is all over my house? You would think that the things I make and give away would mean less yarn. But I seem to have far more now than before and I didn’t buy more or pick up any more donation yarn. I guess this is a good thing! The yarn bunnies are multiplying!

Well, congratulations ME I have made it to day 8! Again, thanks to Linda G. Hill for the inspiration to write every day and to Barbara for the prompt. Click on their names to find out about this fun project and their own blogs.

Coffee

For most people, this word is a wake-up call. Mostly I get headaches from coffee. Even smelling it. And I like how it smells! Decafe us worse than hi-octane. Many times in my life I’ve tried to be like everyone else. But not only is there the throbbing head, I shake like crazy as I reach for Advil. It makes me sad to know that more statistics are saying it is very good for you and long life.

I live on tea. Earl Grey in the morning, green the rest of the day and often! I guess that is my UK roots coming out. This picture makes me happy:

Sorry to be late to the party. Share Your World is a Monday thing. To learn more about it go to Cee’s Photography. She had a ton of challenges and fantastic photos to boot!

Do you prefer a bath or shower?

When I was younger this kind of situation would make me drool. Deep long baths are so soothing. But our clawfoot is sitting up on a platform about a foot and a half. Getting in is difficult. After a long soothing bath it is impossible to get out–for me. After pulling the shower curtain down with me, I decided against those long spa treatments. Now it is a quickie in the small bathroom over the sink or a quick shower. UNTIL my shower in the small restroom is completed. Hopefully by the end of this week. Then showers become my second favorite.

What do you do to make a living or during the day? If you are retired what mostly occupies your day? Or if you are a student what are you studying?

Retired means finding your own rhythms and desires. If you have money that is a limitless dream. But on SSI it is tight. Still, I spend my days making comfort items for charities with donated yarns. Mostly I loom knit. I’m learning to do some needle felting. I spend some time on four languages on Duolingo. And I write and edit previous writings of 12 or 13 books. And lots of reading and binging on Netflix.

Is there a stuffed animal in your bedroom?

Since I do my knitting in my bedroom, this is an example of the stuffed animals in my bedroom. Or does the always hungry Rosey count as stuffed?

What inspired you or what did you appreciate this past week?  Feel free to use a quote, a photo, a story, or even a combination.

I think getting back into my blogging and getting to meet new people or learning more about my blogging friends has filled my heart with joy. You all are fantastic!

Thank you, Linda G. Hill for hosting Just Jot It January. Thank you, the many layered pensitivity  for the prompt:

Pants

It is not as cold for us right now, in the Outback of Oregon. Last year seemed to be constant snow that didn’t go away until May. It’s raining outside today. I went outside yesterday in a T-shirt and no sweater or sweatshirt. BUT…

Early in this winter, my daughter made a statement on FaceBook that has stayed with me. You know how you wear a coat when it’s cold? What about that lower part? Ladies, don’t you find that the lower parts are still cold? Some people said that thermals were the answer or leggings. But honestly. You may already wear thermal tops and bottoms but still wear a coat. Why don’t we have pants that are like coats that when you get somewhere you can unzip and put them aside and not die from the heat inside? Why hasn’t this ever been invented? We could call them poats.

Anybody want to take this on? I’d love to not have a freezing bum or thighs when walking the dog. Let’s hear it for poats!

Thanks to Linda G. Hill  for the inspiration to write every day and to Ruth  for the prompt.

Indelible

I am a sloppy writer. It is why I hate writing letters by pen and ink. My cursive isn’t too bad but I often make mistakes and end up scratching out misspells or words that are ahead of where I’m at in writing. I like pencils with erasers because I can fix said mistakes. No indelible marks there.

I remember when I discovered the typewriter. I had an old Underwood as a kid. I loved it. I learned quickly how to cross things out with the forward slash or X. I was so happy when I learned about the pen and typewriter erasers. But those made holes in the paper. Later we had Whiteout. But it still left a nasty look to the paper.

Then I discovered these:

I don’t know how to make the picture happen or if it does show up just with the link but these pens are so nice! My only excuse for not writing is sitting still and doing it! No more indelible mistakes! Need to order more soon!

Children's book: Laughing eyes: Fun rhyming poems for parents and children about everyday life with beautiful illustrationsChildren’s book: Laughing eyes: Fun rhyming poems for parents and children about everyday life with beautiful illustrations by Haya Magner
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I love being asked to read and review books that I wouldn’t have seen otherwise. After all, my little ones are all grown up. In fact, today is my youngest one’s birthday. Hard to believe it was 36 years ago that miracle came to be! She would have loved this book back in the day.

This was going to be a four-star rating. I’m not crazy about poetry. And there wasn’t text-to-speech or a way to make the text part larger. But I managed. I turned the Kindle sideways just to make it bigger for my eyes.

The illustrations were amazing. That alone should have rated the five stars. It made me want to get out my crayons or pencils and start drawing. I think it would affect a child like that, too.

Let’s not forget the lessons taught in the poems. I love parenting styles that allow a child to learn through their own experiences rather than being forced by the parent to do what they say. The parent lets the child go out in socks rather than wear shoes in the rain. And the rhyming story tells how the child feels about cold, soggy feet.

What put me over to the five stars is that this ought to be several books. I’d love to see some of the stories get their own books. So not only would it take several nights to get through the book but the child could go on and read each one of the over and over.

And what I always love in books is the conversational starters. There are so many in this book. What lessons did we learn? What should the child do? What can his parents do? Why do you suppose the child felt like that? This book brought to mind many talks my kids and I had. And I always made sure they heard the illustrator’s names and the author’s names so they would see what imagination and creativity could bring to a world.

Thank you, Haya Magner, for letting me read your charmer!
