Stream of Consciousness Saturday, Where

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “where.” Use it any way you’d like!

Where Was I 20 years ago? Well, the train ride into work was weird. They were saying things like how those who were going to transfer to the L.A. train probably should look for another ride. I wasn’t a social commuter. I read and eventually wrote on my Palm Pilot keyboard during the hour long ride.

As I strolled down the aisle between gray motes called work stations, I noticed one co-worker had a small television on and a group of workers looking. I glanced and saw what I thought was a special effect in a movie and moved on to my desk. Then I started hearing some say they needed to go their relative worked there. What? Where? Irvine, CA became a scary place for me. I was an hour from home, by train.

Once the coworker with the TV told me what happened, the bosses came through and told us all to go home. It seemed New York had reached us in southern California.

We were off for several days. The train ride was never as fun as it had been before. Everyone was scared as to what might happen next. I think it was the beginning trigger of a huge depression for me. There were other things that happened that made it worse but that’s anther story I don’t think belongs here.

After the fear of the moment the pride in our fellow heroes who rose above the crazies. That was when I found pride in the country where I live. I wish we could still have that unity we had then. Where is the love? Where?

.

Thankful

Since the wee hours of the morning we’ve had rain. It may be humid, there were lightning strikes but enough rain to put out the starts. We even lost electricity.

Even so thank you for the rain dances and prayers. This has been so glorious!

Surprise!

I received a box in the mail. I was expecting yarn to make her socks. But my cousin sent this wonderful dragon. I’ve now named it after her and will make sure she flies in my next Havenverse book!

I would have been equally excited for yarn. I love soft yarn and making socks!

But Haven has Her way into my writing one way or another!

Thank you, Terrina!

One-Liner Wednesday A Funny

One-liner Wednesday is a Linda G. Hill prompt. And um, I’m sorry. My husband shared on FaceBook and I laughed out loud. Maybe the stress is getting to me?

Life During Pandemic

It has been a crazy week for my family. Last Friday (I think) my son’s significant other notified me that she and her family, and my son had been exposed to COVID. It turns out she tested positive and then became very ill. But even though it was scary, I think her health has kept her less sick than she could have been. Even so she and I have spent a lot of time on messenger chatting. Me trying to keep her a bit distracted from how scared she was, and she trying to help me not be so scared for her and my son. I think that is why I have been less able to blog, or think of anything but this situation.

By the way, my son tested negative, yet he is coughing as of today. Again, he’s pretty healthy so I’m not very worried. My third son had it quite a while ago and is out having fun now. He and his crew got their shots so they can play at the beach with masks on.

I’m saying all this just to point out that the numbers we see on the news we need to multiply all family and friend lists to get to the why the angst of this last couple years has climbed to an all time high. The silver lining is all of us getting to know each other better. And for me it has pushed me to get healthier so I can withstand it all.

I have no doubt that many who will read this have their own stories to tell about how this pandemic is touching them personally. Let me quickly send out a hug to all of you and wish you the solidarity of love and health to get through it all.

Making Monday

I’m nearly finished with the fold-up brim of another hat on the KB Flexee fine-gauge loom.

I wanted to do a longer blog but I still need to play recorders before bed.

I hope you all had a good, thought-filled Labor Day. The seeming end of summer. Usually, I get to this point kicking and screaming. I usually love summer the most. But this year I can’t wait for rain and snow and clean air.

Another look at pins.

its Saturday again and time for LindaGHill’s Stream of Consciousness Saturday. Our Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “pin.” Use it as a noun, use it as a verb, use it any way you’d like. Have fun!

One of my sisters was a fashion designer in heriio working days . Of course she worked her way up but designer she was and she traveled the world, New York, Hong Kong, China, Lyon, Paris, Milan, Belfast, London. When I was a little girl I would put a coloured pin in the map to plot her progress. She always looked like a fashion plate to me, she still does, there’s a kind of elegance about her that hard to pin down.
As bright as a new pin that was always her. Even now with her fingers bent and gnarled by arthritis she is as sharp as…

When ever I am too busy to read through all the posts of the bloggers I follow, I save them to read later and comment on them. You can say I put a pin in it and come back to it later.

Keeping something on hold, to return to it later takes the stress out of the situation. We don’t need to do it right now. We can address the issue later when we have more time or are mentally more relaxed.

I did the same with the prompt for this post, I put a pin in it and saved it to write today.

Pinterest is a history lesson of my passion over the last few years. Ah, but then so is this blog.

Writing starts and continues as the place I put a lot of energy. But I used to sew. I found the race of pulling the pins before the needle hit them too stressful. Not to mention the ripping what I sewed. Ugh! And sitting in the position of leaning over the machine hurt my back. Sewing fell as a passion.

Crochet became my next passion. I could make hats for charities and spend time creating. But my hands didn’t like the constant positioning.

Then I learned to loom knit. Even ripping, frogging, or tinking projects was fun. More yarn, more chances to improve.

I tried to dry felt but found the constant hand movement hurt so another craft bit the dust.

Now I’m having fun playing my recorders. It hurts my hands sometimes but it seems, if I’m inconsistent (skipping a day here and there) that my hands get more proficient and hurt less. It doesn’t carry with it the fulfillment the loom knitting does. I’m not helping anyone else. But maybe that’ll be something to come?

Drawing has the same feeling. I can get lost, as lost as when writing, in a project. True, I don’t feel the giving feeling there like I do with the knitting but I don’t feel wasteful of my time and energy. I wonder what that is? Should I see how I can expand somehow into something more charitable?

Music is coming alive in me again. What can I do with it? Is it okay to just enjoy the journey? Does it, too need me to pin it to the social magazine (how I think of Pinterest)? I really want to pinpoint my passions to understand how best to approach the ‘work’s of the fun.

And now with health improving, I wonder where that will lead. Hiking, camping? Let’s just put a pin in that.

New Shoes

I’m so tired. But look what I got from our town run!

These are ASICS gel running shoes for my #none2run program. Which will start out as mostly walking.

Now I’m going to bed.
