Galway BayGalway Bay by Mary Pat Kelly
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Though I can see that this book was full of history and the overall story felt true, it was long and hard to read, even with text-to-speech. It might have been easier to read than listen to the robot voice trying to pronounce the Irish words. I would have loved this with a narrator who might have known how to say the Gaelic verbiage.

On the other hand, I loved the main character and her family. She painted a realistic picture of 19th-century Ireland during the potato famine. After all the Outlander taught me about Scottish life, this is more of an eye-opener of how the English treated people. It showed that we haven’t grown in any way with how we all treat people, looking for those who represent ‘the other.’

I think I would like to read this again with narration. It might make a good series as we follow this young girl through old age.

Stream of Consciousness Saturday, dict

Per Linda:

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is โ€œdict.โ€ย Find a word that contains โ€œdictโ€ and use it in your post. Have fun!

Dictionaries have always been favorites for me. Encyclopedias, too. All those words that led to other words became an adventure. Sometimes it would lead to stories. I couldn’t help myself.

Other times with those books were not so predictable. Remember being told to go look it up when folks wouldn’t give you a simple answer? One crazy word that seemed a foreign language, led to word after word that made no sense. Each word seemed to contradict the definition of the other.

Still, I would find myself addicted to these tomes of words and knowledge.

Yarnie Birthday!

What a fun birthday I’ve had. I got to chat and talk with folks I love. I got to birthday shop at my favorite yarn shop, Willows, and talk knitting. All in all, I feel fortunate for all the love around me.

Happy birthday to my way younger twin. You know who you are โค๏ธ

Now back to 9-1-1 (we are addicted to this show) have you watched it? Oh, and knitting.

Tween earth and sky

It’s you and I.

Twins of bone and blood.

Squishing toes in mud.

The rain and snow may fall,

But WE are one and all.

None better than the rest,

With love within the breast.
