No W-A-L-K

Imagine this conversation.

Kali: Do we get to walk today?

Me: No, it’s too windy.

Kali: (insert cuss words here)

So I tried to show her how the shrubs were blown flat in places and stuff was flying and you couldn’t see but maybe ten miles for the dust.

Suddenly I hear ‘A wee mo whap, a wee mo whap, In the Jungle…’

In the sun but protected by the sagebrush, the owner of the property (here before we moved here). We think she is a female, just in case we ever get the chance to see for sure, she is either Jasmine or he is Jasper.

That’s the best picture of her so far. She looks like our indoor cat, Teddy.

Who has run away from home and found outside was a horrid place. Now he spends his days on my bed, purely serene in the warmth and comfort. He loves that I put on the old pink blanket to protect my bed as he thinks it is just his special place.

The Trap

So, this happened this morning. Let me explain. Chris gets the cats. Kali sleeps with me. When he gets up early they congregate with the swing-shift sleeper. But how to get up? Kali’s dilemma is worse. Here’s the pictorial version. The first has a circle around our sleeping Rosey. Arrow points to Kali, who didn’t fit in the frame. Oh, and the blue plaid are my PJ pants and I’m right up against the wall.I figure out how to ease off the end of the bed.Kali’s face tells the story. And finally she has figured it out.

I saw the above on FaceBook today and giggled.

Now at 10:52PM, I have three furry people sleeping.

Like this one:

Teddy meditates after licking the gravy from his wet food. We feed these monsters so late so that they will let us sleep all night.

It just happened. That nightly ritual. “Dad” gets the cats off his lap and I start giving the cheer to Kali about what is happening in the kitchen. Some would say these guys are spoiled. I don’t know. Yes, there is half a minute that each dish is warmed in the microwave. Then “Dad” brings the dishes in our room and puts down Rosey’s first. Kali waits patiently as hers is second, Then Prince Teddy must be found and picked up and placed in front of his food.

Then the chewing and chomping and slurping begins. To the observer, everyone is in their places. Until they aren’t. Teddy finished with gravy jumps up on my bed and takes a quick bath and stares off into space. Rosey and Kali exchange bowls. Then Rosey finishes Teddy’s and Kali makes sure they are all empty. Sometimes I find the bowls in the bathroom or under the bed, they are so thorough in their nightly gnashings.

Kali then settles near me and Rosey gets back to “Dad’s” lap. The rest of the night they are quiet.

If you didn’t know, Chew/choo was the prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday. Thank you Linda G. Hill for this fun challenge.

Linda’s prompt for this SoCS is Rosy. Which I am going to change to Rosey. You’ll see why. I hope.

In many parts of the country, we are experiencing a lag in the Spring-ness. It is so all-encompassing that this meme is showing up on our FaceBook feeds.

I say that because here is it windy and raining a LOT. The good part is that it might forestall fires. But the wind doesn’t and the rain comes with lightning, so– not so much. Anyway, I was forced to take the dog (Kali) out as is her way. I opened the screen door and the wind nearly tore it out of my hand. I nearly closed it on Kali and the wind had it again. Now I see this black creature climbing down the steps as Kali was climbing back up.

Rosey and Teddy are the indoor cats. Too many predators to let them be outside. So I ran down the steps in my socks and picked up Rosey.ย  She’s usually a sweetie and so cute, see:

But as I pick her up and tell Kali to go up and in the house, Rosey turns and does this to me:

I didn’t even know she drew blood until after I sat down. I was FaceTiming with friends and I showed them. They had me leave the conversation to clean it and treat it so it wouldn’t get infected.

Today as I was trying to finish a couple more dolls, Kali and Rosey sat on my lap, I think to make it up to me, but it makes it hard to sew with those two taking up the lap-space.

(This picture wasn’t taken today. I wasn’t on my bed in my PJs! And they were on reversed sides! But you get the idea!)

So where was I? Oh yeah! I finished my last dolls. The last thing I do is put a dab of color on their cheeks giving them a rosy glow.

I won’t include the tute here. as I shared it on yesterday’s blog. But I think I am done with the dolls for a while. I have to sew some other toys in the next couple of days. This feeling of accomplishment gives my soul a rosy glow that nearly matches my Rosey scratches! ๐Ÿ˜€

Missing Mom on Monday

Not only did Kali give me a long lecture in woofish for leaving her all alone with Hubby and Son (and hasn’t left my side since I got home),

but these two slept in my chair waiting for me.

Teddy blends in with the cover on my coccyx pillow. Rosey is hard to see as she is the black shadow behind him.

My Spanish/English dictionary is there so I can start writing letters or little stories in Spanish. Hubby took the picture so I would feel missed. Isn’t he the sweetest? โค

What do you do with a Friday that didn’t work out as planned?

I couldn’t take the trip to town, Flare. Body predicting cold snowy weather. Husband and son volunteer. But snow would be coming too soon. Canceled. But need groceries. Even as we discussed what to do flurries were gathering on the banister of the porch.

Yeah, the old snow never melted so this coming week should be interesting.

DH and brother drive to little town. Get necessities which in the case of the snow that had started celebratory pizza.

While they were gone my friends and I got together over the internet and laughed and talked for hours. Friends are great!ย  They made me feel like this:

This evening while trying to figure out what to share here, Teddy came to visit with me.

“Mom, I’m bored.”

“Wanna play?”

“Nah.”

Then he marched off my bed to see what other mischiefs he could get into.

More snow expected over the next week. It is pretty. But worry about Kali and her outside times. Much deeper and she will disappear.

Friends, family, furballs, pizza. Who could ask for more? Snowed in? What do you do?

This is the very first thing that I thought of–okay, the second, with this prompt.

After the reminders of all that needs cleaning in the house this is what occurred next:

Don’t get me started on dirty tricks. Not a fan.

I would write more but I have a case of cat and dog paralysis.

Typing over Rosey and not being able to move because of Kali has limited this Jot.

I can’t believe Just Jot It January is nearly over. Thank you, Linda, for this fun challenge. Thank you, Jim, for getting Jotting down and dirty!

Balance

Not long ago I took Kali out first thing in the morning. One step out onto the porch and my feet were in the air and my shoulders hit the door threshold. There was ice on the porch landing that was invisible. I don’t think I was seriously hurt. Though the tailbone is even madder at me than it was before. I’m beginning to think that my chair yoga isn’t getting better due to that slip.

It is easy to lose our balance. It is something we strive for. But I wonder if it is even possible to have. Or if we have a slanted view of what balance should be. Though nature gives us a semblance of balance nothing really is. Not even our own faces are balanced. So have we mistaken what we should aim for?

When I am drawing I find it hard if the left eye is higher than the right or the corners of the mouth don’t line up properly. And for that reason, I have a hard time appreciating Piccaso’s modern art. But maybe he had something trying not to balance.

Had I been thinking of balance maybe I wouldn’t have fallen? I don’t know. As it was my hands did a good job grabbing at the door handle and the rail. It could have been way worse had the automatic reflex not kicked in. I was pretty amazed at that reflex. Have you ever tried to think through something like that?

I’m sorry. I’m meandering. All I wanted was to throw a little balance into this blog.

I know! I have shared plenty of pics of Kali and Rosey but the only good one of Teddy was one I share when we first moved here. I just cropped it and found an interesting balance between Teddy’s sweet self and the scenery. Did I ever tell you that Teddy used to love me best and I felt so very connected to him? He knew where to situate on me to purr away my pains. When Kali came he seemed to divorce himself from me. It has taken a year for that little guy to finally decide I am worth his trouble. Now I wake in the morning with three furries taking up my bed. All making sure I can’t move. Wish I could levitate those mornings so I wouldn’t have to disturb these loves.

Who cares about balance when there is this face in the world.

Once again, thank you, Linda, for Jotting fun. And JP for tossing my balance! ๐Ÿ™‚

Zoomies

‘What are the Zoomies?’ I asked when I saw this prompt. So I looked it up. Here’s what I found on Chewy.com. Kali has done that a few times. Mostly when the cats start it.

Teddy will scratch the furniture. I think when my daughter was Kali’s mommy she would reprimand her cat so Kali assumed that was something she could take on herself.

Teddy is the youngest of our furries but this is his go-to position. He gets really grumpy if you wake him. He has taken on the Garfield attitudes. In fact, every night when we feed the wet food to all three, he needs to be picked up and brought to his food.

He was wiggling to get down to said food.

I’ve shared pictures of Rosy and Kali more often.ย  Just a quick reminder:

She is a mixture of regal and ready to grab your every attention.

Kali is always attached to my body somehow or in my face. That may be why I have more pictures of her.

Anyway, so the two old ladies, Rosey and Kali think they are the bosses of Teddy. Poor guy. So when he attempts to scratch the furniture Kali will jump off my lap to go chase him and then Rosey will join in and there will be a blurry elephant race around the living room, hallway, kitchen, and bedroom. I say elephant because as floppy-soggy as they are on our laps, they can make the biggest thumping noise. It seems like they’re having fun. Most of the time the ‘bitch-slappers’ aren’t brought out. Rosey’s polydactyl ones are scariest. Kali has learned to respect those paws.

So, I assume Zoomies aren’t just something dogs get as all three seem to get them. Kali will run like crazy outside but it is usually bush to bush trying to find that perfect spot. But it’s a blurry furry mess as they run around like crazies. Most of the time it is all three going for it. Then they assume their previous positions. Sleeping more than likely.

Thanks, Linda! Thanks, Bee!

Help Me, Mr. Mutt!: Expert Answers for Dogs with People ProblemsHelp Me, Mr. Mutt!: Expert Answers for Dogs with People Problems by Janet Stevens

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I’ve fallen behind in my reading goal for this year so I decided to include a few picture books or other short books to catch up. Most of the books I’m reading lately are quite long. So these are a bit of a relief for my eyes and energies.

Help Me, Mr. Mutt! Jumped out at me when I visited the library last. I loved the cute dog on the cover and decided that would be a good one to try.

The idea of a dog answering letters for other dogs with people problems was delightful. I loved the sneaky letters after Mr. Mutt’s reply from Queen the cat were hilarious. I loved that Mr. Mutt was able to give charts to prove his answers (though I wonder at his fact finding abilities–seems rather fake news to me). Still, the dogs reading said letters would be grateful to see their desires as proven fact. A great introduction to charts and how they work!

And while I think this was all fun and games, I think a good pet owner would insert proper care for said pets when reading this book aloud to a child. After all, if a child were to read this to his or herself, he might think it okay to give pets people food or sugary foods, or follow other advice not so good for a dog or cat. Still, read with a sense of humor it could be a fun book for parent and child or teacher and students to share.

And did I mention the illustrations? They were awesome! Fun read!
