Scrappy socks are nearly finished. Most of the pair are made of the Mani-Pedi crew color yarn. The toes and heels are scraps from the previous pair I made. I’m loving how they are working up.
We lived through the triple digit hot Sunday. Today was sort of hot but not nearly as bad. Tomorrow is supposed to be 72. I might wear jeans and T-shirt instead of shorts and tank-top what a relief! I might take a nice walk as air quality is also supposed to be good for a change.
I was going to write a Haiku or Tanka or use other prompts I found on the blogs, but it was too hot to move to the laptop. So I sat in my recliner with the fan and worked on more scrappy socks while watching the end of season 10 of the Walking Dead. I made myself feel better knowing it had to be worse for those actors in Georgia.
It is supposed to reach 99 on Thursday. Just like the difference between 33 and 32 can break pipes, the difference between 94 today and 99 means more siestas and iced green tea popsicles.
The scrappy socks are toed and heeled with leftovers from the last pair I made. I’m loving the rainbow look it makes. You can see the toe on the right that I just finished. The sock on the left need ankle and cuff, then done. The looms are CinDWood 56 pegs, fine gauge of 1/4 inch.
These are the two yarns. Mani-Pedi is the non-toe or heel parts.
The socks are Kitchener cast-on and the toe/heel is German short rows.
I finally finished this pair of socks. And guess who they fit? Me!
Guess I should tell the details. CinDWood sock loom, Kitchener cast-on, toe-up, 4by4 knit/purl on top of foot then the ankle up through cuff. I didn’t like the purling. It made the project take far too long.
Making music. My housemates and neighbors may disagree.
My free classes ended last Thursday. It was fun having a Zoom class making progress through elementary music.
I am a music major so I can read music, no problem. Well, except for the eyes that have problems seeing. But recorder music is only one line. As opposed to four or more in piano music. So recorder is easier.
Without the black and white keys I have had to learn finger positions. Seems easy enough. Except fingers, my fingers are short and have a hard time reaching.
Maintaining breath while hitting the notes and trying to keep time present challenges.
Any of you who had to take recorder classes in school might remember the screeching noises of the soprano recorder.
So I am attempting to learn the alto, too. I love it’s rich smooth sounds. But my hands hurt after more than few minutes playing.
All the music time cuts my knitting time. So the socks are just two inches from being done. Maybe this week they’ll be complete.
I got up way later that I hoped. Still it wasn’t too hot so Kali and I walked our mile. She was so slow. I don’t know what was up. She usually loves her walks. So it was way slower than usual. My app didn’t record it. I listened to a podcast that my daughter introduced me to. It kept my mind busy so the walk was painless.
My friends and I have challenged each other to watch all of Marvel Universe in timeline order. My husband has joined. We are now on Ironman 3. I think this is my favorite of the Ironmen. By the way, you can find this order on Disney +.
I seem more tired since getting back. I had to take a nap. I usually do well on a 20 minuter. But I went far over. I was 1/2 hour late for my recorder class.
Luckily, I have a few lessons on my own before finding the class so it was review. I’m sure my advance will fade in the next two lessons. It was fun to be in a class with second graders to folks my age. I think that is the best kind of class. Be on the level of learning not peer groups.
Within a 1/2 hour of the end of recorder class was my writers group. I love the people in that group. Such a creative bunch. There are published authors to challenge all of us.
Yarn is one of my favorite words. I love words that have multiple definitions. You all know how much I love knitting, loom knitting, and crocheting. Yarn can just be a soft skein. Or it can be something already made. A sock or a a new sweater. And then, if the item isn’t done well enough it can be torn apart and made into something else. What a wonderful substance it is!
But it is also the fun of a tale. Of a story untold made into something woven with layers of characters of development and world building. I like to call myself Dream Yarner as I love to weave with drifting between soft places to land.
I also think of timelines of real life touching my past and future and the full reality threaded together in a yarn that knits family and friends in my life and the softness of love.
Twenty peg KB Fine-gauge Flexee loom each sock. Kitchener cast-on, toe up. Flat knit stitch through body of sock. German short-rows on toes and heels. Two by two purl/knit cuff. Slipper socks going to charity.
It is great to be back home. No driving or sitting for long times. While Chris was in the hospital I did a lot of knitting. At first I worked on this pair of socks.
But because I am trying to make the top of the sock a bit textured with four purl/four knit pattern, I found myself too distracted and doing the wrong stitches in the wrong places. So I left it at home the next few days and worked on the next pair of socks.
The bluish tinted yarn is very soft. That’s the part on the body of the sock. The toe and heel are a sturdier yarn. Because there are fewer stitches to keep track of, this is a better project when I am distractible. I finished the first heel today so these are going faster than the first pair.
Oh. And the hat. It is a soft mohair, light pink if the picture show it right. I’m doing a cable stitch that takes a lot of strength and concentration so I haven’t moved very far on it.
All of these are heading for the Hugger Hats charity. I still love the the win-win of getting to make things and having someone enjoy the results.
KB fine-gauge Flexee 20 links. Tie-up starting with Kitchener cast-on. German short-row heel. Cuff two-by-two purl/knit. Stretchy cast-off. Now passed on to charity.
Now the Teddy update.
As you may have noticed, I have many names for this feline, and he reenacts
them all at will. Saint Theodore. That’s when he does a CAT scan and finds my
hurty spots and purrs it away. It works like a miracle. Not for others in the
house, but for me, it is true.
Then there’s Teddy, the Terrorist. That is the demon that has decided we
can’t have nice things. No matter how many scratching posts or pads we get, he
chooses the arms of the furniture, even the newest chair. It’s embarrassing to
have scratched up furniture, but he’s the one in charge of our Feng Sui.
Teddy the terrific: That’s the one that is having zoom meetings down the
hallway. No, not the kind people have. The kind of crazy cats and dogs have
running around to show their joy of life.
After three days of antibiotics on board, and Tedster seems back to his
original multi-personable self. I’m so happy he’s back! And the plus is that he
is quite talkative now, and he hasn’t been since he was a kitten. I’m so
delighted!
Working on my series: Haven.
