Thursday Threads

These are the finished products I can share for today. There are lots of little bodies that need to be stuffed, sewn and eyes I need to finish by Saturday.

The doll was made on the purple KB loom (24 pegs). He is about five inches tall. I have changed how I make the arms as I just use the four pegs that line up over the middle of the legs. I knit those four back and forth until I have about 31 rows then pull the first row back on the pegs and knit together. The rest of the doll is according to LoomAHat’s instructions:

The little hats are on the white KB loom following the instructions that came in the package.

Authentic Knitting Board KB8200 KB Baby Knit Looms 3/8" Gauge

I love the finer gauge of these looms. It takes longer but the results are nicer. I think. \

Besides the body parts to sew, I have several new projects starting:

This is an adult hat on the left on the larger KB loom and the one on the right is another baby hat. The colors are off in the pictures. The adult hat has two strands, an olive green strand and variegated lighter green to beige. The baby hat is pinkish orange that is SO soft.

This is a HERS of the KB HIS and HERS sock that looks the color of a 50/50 ice cream bar.

This is my 10-Stitch done on just a piece of the Martha Stewart kit. I have gotten bored with this one and frogged it several times. I may make just a lap-ghan elderly or frog again and give up on something that large and stick with toys and hats. I do like the color combo here, though.

No this isn’t about Mamas and the Papas. Just couldn’t figure a good title for this small bloggy. Besides, bet that earworm took! 😀

I don’t have enough time to gather all the looms to do a Make-it Monday: Two sock-looms are in use, there are a few dolls I need to stuff and sew closed, a little hat for a doll on the littlest loom, a baby hat on the next bigger, all in process and nothing near finished product.

So, while knitting, binging, right? Tried Royal Pain but too flirty and not enough medical to keep my interest. I’ll try again later. Instead, I went for an old favorite that has added new seasons: Call the Midwife. I love that show. I miss Miranda (Chumie) but the newer cast is still sweet. One of the best parts of this show is following women and health issues over the past couple of centuries. If you were there at the beginning, there were few cars only bicycles. They even went through war.

I’m at about 1962 in a most recent episode. They talk about Kennedy and Cuba crises. So it isn’t just the women’s health it shows what else is going on in the world at the time. On the last episode, they showed the results of the drug given for morning sickness back then Thalidomide.

This show doesn’t hold back when it comes to things women have been through over the years. I do so wish the midwife was a more acceptable way for birth. My last two were homebirths so I have a love for that kind of birth. Don’t get me wrong. There is a good reason to have hospitals and doctors on hand, but I think the woman to woman care is missing for those who need to go to the hospital.

My second experience in the hospital were people running around yelling the phones were out. My first was a most uncomfortable affair with not the slightest care as to what I wanted or what baby and I actually needed. I studied a lot about being a midwife, but by the time I had babies three and four, I didn’t have the time or energy to go for it. So this show helps fulfill some of that. I find I love all the characters and how well they tell the story. And that music gets me going! I can guarantee that I will shed at least a tear with every viewing! This is a herstory that everyone should watch and maybe get the other side of history.

Oddly a prompt has stumped me. I love prompts! They stimulate my imagination! Not this one. I opened this page:

Click to access list_of_adverbs.pdf

It was helpful but overwhelming.

It’s just me, during this fibro-y time of lots of rain and wind. Brain is less than. Body is more than. The triumph of a finished product didn’t carry through. When finished with something I tend to be frenetically looking for the next project to keep me engaged,

Starting a project isn’t easy. There is counting, mathing and then carefully casting on and making the first few rows that need constant attention. Even so, I’ve started a new baby hat and an adult sock. Yeah, I think I’m addicted to this sock thing.

Oh, I nearly forgot! I finally got to play with a Christmas Present from a friend. It looks like this:

I used it with my ball maker:

Between these two tools, you can change a yank:

That seemingly has no beginning or end and can cause more trouble than it’s worth if a person doesn’t know about how to make it useable. One way is to pull it open into a circle and place it over one’s knees and find the beginning knot and hand roll this strand into a ball. But with the ball maker above, one can make a ball with a beginning strand and ending strand, making it possible to work from both ends. This ball looks like this:

So that took up most of my day. I used some of the less wanted hanks that were donated and made nice useable balls. One yank was useless yarn. Sadly it kept breaking and I had to throw it away. But most of it was nice, soft yarn I couldn’t wait to try out.

Well, here it is nearly midnight. I finally got the blog written. Whew! How was your Saturday? Were there enough adverbs for ya?

Thank you, Linda G. Hill, for the Stream of Consciousness Saturday prompt of adverb that used my last brain cell! LOL!

Finished Friday

I am SO happy! I finished MY short socks! And they fit!!!

They are so comfortable!

This is the loom I used.

This is all the yarn that was left! I got crazy toward the end hoping I’d have enough. But it worked out! These will feel cool in sneakers or croc. Yes, I wear those ugly things around the house. They are so comfortable, they make my back and legs feel better.

By the way, the pattern I used was loosely based on this:

Here’s the thing. I’m using the leftover yarn from making my brother’s socks to make ankle or short socks. Today, except for the sewing bits I finished my first short sock. Hope I have enough to make the next sock This one is comfy so I think it will be fun to wear these. I rarely make something for me. Mostly because I don’t need that much and I love that I can make things for other people who need them.  But these are for me–if there is enough yarn.

I know it looks funny with the strings and toes showing but it got too dark for sewing and I needed something to blog about today. So Bo–  only half done so can’t add the om!

Oh for those who might want patterns or help here is the one I kind of followed:

Finished Friday 20190322

With all that has been happening this week, and the constantly changing weather, here is one thing I can feel good about:

A little, soft newborn hat.

KB Baby Hat loom. K2, P2 brim. Flat stitch knit, LoomaHat’s Decrease Bind Of. See below.

Happy Friday, everyone!

To celebrate I finished two hats! Neither are for snakes or cats. Nor are they green. But here they are. The baby one is waiting for the matching toy. Both are heading for charities.

This was a larger adult version (KB Loom) of the past one using the ‘homespun’ type yarn. It is so soft. I still have a little more of this yarn that I will use for a baby hat. Again this is the fold up brim to keep the ears warmer. It is all the flat knit stitch. That is until the decreasing part that I was trying to adapt GoodKnitKisses type of hat closure. I put the YouTube at the bottom of the page. I don’t have the adjustable loom so I modified with loose e-wraps as I decreased and only did a couple true decreases before just closing with the usual one strand closing I usually use. See the loomahat.com YouTube after the GKK one.

Here’s the baby one I finished today:

So tiny! Not as soft as the above adult hat. But love the self-striping. This was on the baby KB loom. Two by two knit purl brim. Flat knit stitch. Then used the LoomaHat closing below.

Abashed

There is something In this world that can leave the averaged person abashed. Yep, the blue screen of death. When it appears on your computer screen. But I have a hero in my house. My own personal IT guy. Yep. My husband is the best! Though I’m still using my tablet, it is only because he’s running all the utilities (because I’m horrible at doing that.)

I started the morning feeling sad about my poor machine. I watched season three of Game of Thrones. I finished another hat like the last one. I don’t think you’ll be able to tell the difference. But here’s the proof.

And in case you think this is old news, it’s snowing.

Ever feel you’re in a timey-wimey glitchy thingy? Me, too. Don’t forget your clocks tonight.

Thank you, Linda, for the Stream of Consciousness challenge!

Thursday Hats 20190307

I actually finished this hat a couple days ago but forgot to post. It is made on this loom and just the same yarn as a few before. I love the stuff! It is soft and not too thick so I think it will be okay for spring and sensitive heads. Here are the current Work In Process and the one I just finished. Just flat knit stitch and fold up brim.
