Learn to Knit on Long LoomsLearn to Knit on Long Looms by Anne Bipes

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This book was a huge disappointment for me. I have been making hats for a charity group. One of the ladies taught me to use the circle loom. I became addicted to it. Then I thought I would stretch my understanding of loom knitting and started making washcloths on the long loom. That got me curious to other stitches I could try. That’s when I found this book. I even decided to spend my hard earned cash on it.

Mistake. There are so many books out there that are anywhere from free to just a small price. This one was nearly $10. Yet the pictures are fewer than one needs to learn a new skill. The written instructions didn’t include enough true step-by-step clues to help the learner understand. And the number of patterns in the book were so few it just wasn’t worth the money.

STILL, I will keep it and when I feel ready to try again I may see if it has something more than I found with my first attempt. There seem to be a lot of people who love this book so it might work for you, too.

These are just a few of the hats I have been making. My project page listed above will show more of the projects I’ve been busy with over the winter. Once on Ravelry you can click on the project to see my blogging about each one.

Christmas Crochet: 23 Amazing Christmas Crochet Gifts That Will Please Your Friends And Family: (Crochet patterns, Crochet books, Crochet for beginners, ... beginner's guide, step-by-step projects)Christmas Crochet: 23 Amazing Christmas Crochet Gifts That Will Please Your Friends And Family: by Adrienne Scott

My rating: 1 of 5 stars

It’s Christmas time. Time to start working on projects for friends family and, yes, for me. So I am downloading lots of crochet books to look at and decide if it would be worth the while to make the project before me. I would never find myself in a position to make a project without seeing what the final result should look like. Sure, I can read a pattern and follow it. But I don’t have the time, money or yarn to experiment. Even if I did, I wouldn’t with all the wonderful books, with pictures, out there to peruse.

No, I didn’t read every word in this book. But I leafed through the whole thing in hopes of finding the pictures later on. Sure the author is giving away a bonus book at the end but those are ‘diys’ and not necessarily crochet patterns. I ordered one but can’t say if it will be any better than this one.

Meanwhile, though this has an enticing cover, don’t bother unless you want to experiment.

New Hire (Office Passions, #1)New Hire by Veronica Victorian

My rating: 2 of 5 stars

Disclosure: this was a free for review read from Rooster and Pig publishing.

Meh. In the beginning of the book, I felt like I was getting to know a character and a storyline. But then it took off into what I consider a straight guy’s wet dream of lesbian lust. Okay, I am not so much a prude as to not have felt anything. There were hot places. But just about when I might feel an emotional bond or honest need, I read words I have read of straight erotica that always yank me back to reality.

New Hire was so much less than learning the ropes of a new company for the new hire. In fact, once the boss takes over, she takes over! I would have loved more fleshing out of the characters. No pun intended. I think the author tried, but just didn’t quite get there.

Maybe it is just me. Try it and see if it is a book for you.

They look like little mushrooms. They are great for storing or separating small items. I’m thinking puzzle pieces or hair ties. When not in use, they nest inside each other.
