Service Dog

20170226_232122

It suddenly occurred to me today how I can help Kali not be left at home alone. She has separation anxiety and will tear up the place if left alone. That was why her MamaLaura (my daughter) had to giver Kali to me. She had to go to work and leave the poor pup alone. We are retired so there is almost always someone here so she is never alone. But should I need to go to the city (an hour and a half away) on the senior bus it might be that she wouldn’t be happy. But there might be a time when I need to go to the doctors or something.

So I was looking at this page: United States Service Dog. Has anyone done this? It says I don’t need a doctor’s note though I could probably find my doctors who put me on disability ages ago. She does help me feel better just by being so cute! She’s been well trained as far as simple commands. I think she’d do well on the bus just sitting with me and giving me the pain distractions I need to get through the rough part of the trip.

It is very beautiful (scenic) to see but the road itself is so full of potholes and my tailbone usually hurts so bad by the time we get to town that I can barely walk. After a full day, coming home is even worse, especially if it is dark and I have nothing to distract me from the pain that is so unbearable that I have to sit straight up and not lean back. Then it starts hurting my whole back. Once I am home I feel crippled for a week. It sets off huge fibro flares that make me worthless to do anything but sleep.

Look, I know that having the dog with me won’t prevent a lot of that pain, but it may make it a little easier to deal with. Does that make sense?

Now I just need to figure out how to afford it. I’d love her to have the vest and all, but even the basic (just a certificate and ID card) is $69. Is this a good idea or am I on another wild goose chase that wouldn’t help either of us and money out for nothing????? Are there things I need to think about that maybe others have gone through? It seems like a win-win idea but maybe I am being naïve?

I made this using this YouTube from LoomAHat The only difference was that I had already rib stitched K2P2 rather than the K1P1 that she (Denise M Canela) recommends. Other that that I think this ear warmer scarf turned out great! I started another in green almost immediately.

Another difference is that I had Kali on my lap nearly all the time I was looming. Just like she is right now as I type this. From left to right: pillow, Kali, my leg (pink sweatpants) and laptop.

Stuck like glue! I feel loved!

After the Mud, More Snow

I wasn’t expecting this. We knew it was going to rain but didn’t expect snow that might stick until nearly noon. But look at that sky. It’s not finished.

These two are the front ‘yard’.

We have a feral cat that we take care of under the front porch.

Looking at the backyard through the avocado tree in the dining room.

Behind the car the snow was smooth. Weird!

In front of the car, mud. But do you see Kali? (Sort of a “Where’s Waldo?” moment)

Well, she’s finished with this mess! Bring the Spring time, please!

When I mentioned to my hubby the word of the day, he said, “Which ham? Rosie, Teddy, or Kali? Between them you have a whole hog!”

img_20170212_1501474_rewind

Above starting at the ginger, Teddy. Black bump is Rosie. Kali is hogging the foreground. Hard to believe they can now get along like this. Now they have races up and down the hallway sounding like a herd of elephants!

Now back to the weather. Rain and snow predicted for the next few days. More adventures with Kali and friends to follow.

This Stream of Consciousness Saturday with prompt “ham” brought to you by Linda G Hill. Thanks for the inspiration!

Sometimes you are sitting there minding your own business when someone says they like you.

Really?

I’m so excited I can hardly sit still!

I learned about TINK (or Killer as he wants to be called–I think he’s a he–my nose is good but I can’t seem to pull TINK into nose range). They have a 4-legses meet and greet and tell about another one.

img_20170217_2102116_rewind_kindlephoto-12986527

Yeah, this looks like the same picture as the one before but I was so astounded by the news it was hard for MommaDar to get a steady picture. Anyway, the other meet and greet was set up by a 2-legses doctor. But that’s okay, she loves 4-legses!

img_20170217_2102116_rewind_kindlephoto-13040195

This was supposed to be a picture of the rain and snow I had to deal with on our last “outside” but it wasn’t coming down hard enough to show, so another me! I sure am pretty! And I love when MommaDar whispers sweet nothings in my ear! Especially if life is going to be only ‘inside’ for a few days. I don’t like the river at the bottom of my steps. MommaDar says there is nothing she can do to stop this wet weather. Not sure I believe her.

Anyway, glad to meet other bloggers, even if they’re doggers–Kali the poet!

Kali Goes to the Library

MommaDar didn’t bring her phone or camera so you’ll just have to take it from the dog’s mouth.

We live in a very small town. Our library is dog friendly. The librarian usually has treats for the dogs that come to visit but she had just run out. Even so a nice man, MommaDar seemed to know him, offered me a treat.

It didn’t seem right. I think MommaLaura wouldn’t approve of taking treats from strangers, so I smiled at him and smelled the wonderful library smells.

MommaDar doesn’t get books at the library. She turns in her hats and other things and picks up the donated yarn to make other things. She reads library books on her Kindle.

It doesn’t matter. I can tell that the library is MommaDar’s favorite place. I can’t wait to get back.

Dog and cats napping together. Teddy, Rosie, and Kali enjoying snooze time. It’s been a little over a month and they are starting to hang out and even play together. At first, they were quite upset when the other was on their blanket. But that is over. Rosie is on the cat blanket. Teddy is on the dog blanket. Kali is touching her own blanket but mostly on my top comforter. It’s so fun to watch them start a friendship.

Happy Linconln’s Birthday. All about how we can get along. Above is how that can happen to what should be mortal enemies can feel comfort in each other’s company. It is possible.
