I have celebrated this day. Sadly, the modern teachers avoid ‘oldies’ words. It is harder to say hath over has for our tongues but they miss teaching moments by modernizing.
I can’t believe we are at the beginning of the end. Gird up your loins folks! We’ve made it through the first end month. The -embers and scary -ober are here.
A quick Fall-in-Oregon Outback, well, view from my window update.
Less on the trees.
More on the driveway.
(Last year @Willowdot21 had a hard time with this. I hope her health is better now.)
I have spent this week attending a Podcast seminar on FaceBook. Well, actually, I took the live class on Monday but found the rest of the classes at awkward times to live watch. So I binged the rest today and I’ll have to watch Friday’s class when I get the chance. Here is the YouTube of what I watched Monday.
I’ve mentioned here that it is in my plan to make a podcast. I still feel strongly that it is something I should and want to do. I don’t know why, exactly. I certainly am lost in trying to do this but I will be doing it.
My aim is to have a chat about this 71 year-old lady and what that feels like for me. I plan to share my passions good and awkward. Crochet, knitting, loom knitting, piano, singing, recorder, artwork, and especially my writing. I could do write-a-longs or read alouds of my own books.
When I was young, and I hate to admit it but even now, I love going into other people’s lives and homes and getting to know people intimately. I enjoy feeling the comradery of a good knit and bitch or sing-a-long.
Report cards pf my youth give me promise that I can do this. What did get written on almost all of them? ‘Darlene talks too much in class.’ Not that reporting that to my parents helped at all. Neither did moving me to different seats. I always made friends with whoever I sat with. One teacher even moved me up near his own desk. Guess what? It wasn’t long before he and I were in a conversation. He spent nearly a whole class chatting before he realized that he, too, had fallen for my gabby self. So, it is called a gift of gab, right?
Another reason I want to do this is to join baby-boomers and anyone else who feels isolated. I know with my cataracts reading has been so hard. That ability encompasses so much of our lives, not just reading books. Reading the phone number to make a call, reading ingredients on a package, etc. I want to make life more accessible. I have already made this blog available on Spotify but not my own voice, just the robot voice offered on Anchor. By the time I get to the writing the blog time, I don’t have the energy to read the words.
But the gabbing is something I want to use to get to know people better. Not just hear myself speak. So I am asking all of you to give me suggestions of what I might cover. Thanks for being the great bunch of friends you are here. I can hardly wait to see what you recommend. I think blogging helps me so much and I think the podcast will, too.
Since the wee hours of the morning we’ve had rain. It may be humid, there were lightning strikes but enough rain to put out the starts. We even lost electricity.
Even so thank you for the rain dances and prayers. This has been so glorious!
I received a box in the mail. I was expecting yarn to make her socks. But my cousin sent this wonderful dragon. I’ve now named it after her and will make sure she flies in my next Havenverse book!
I would have been equally excited for yarn. I love soft yarn and making socks!
But Haven has Her way into my writing one way or another!
Scrappy socks are nearly finished. Most of the pair are made of the Mani-Pedi crew color yarn. The toes and heels are scraps from the previous pair I made. I’m loving how they are working up.
We lived through the triple digit hot Sunday. Today was sort of hot but not nearly as bad. Tomorrow is supposed to be 72. I might wear jeans and T-shirt instead of shorts and tank-top what a relief! I might take a nice walk as air quality is also supposed to be good for a change.
The mustachioed sky is nothing like a pistachioed sky which sounds more delicious. Instead it seemed the sky didn’t want us to relax with clouds. More than 22 lightning strikes were counted. Though it sounds like all were taken care of quickly. The day was cooler with spits of rain so I can’t complain. Even Kali was happy to go outside as the mist was so light she could barely feel it. Oh, and that fresh clean smell that brings such peace. But can it be trusted?
Thank you, Linda G. Hill. Here’s her prompt instructions:
Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “the last photo you took.” Take the last photo you snapped. What’s the first word that comes to mind when you look at it? That word is your prompt. Enjoy!
Today on my Zoom, I was told it was my dad’s birthday. Now I don’t know how I could have Zoomed my dad. Even in the days when we share the family home, he couldn’t understand the internet or computers. He hasn’t been with us for over a decade. Wonder if they have Zoom in Heaven? If so, I have a bunch of folk I’d love to chat with. Starting with the others in this 4 generation both ways picture.
Being the oldest cousin on one side and third oldest on the other, I was lucky. I remember both great-grandmothers on both sides. There is a lot of love and laughter I feel when I absorb this picture in my heart.
Happy birthday, Dad. And Mom, though a couple weeks late.
As I meandered my thoughts about today, I found my eclectic stroll even more so.
My current binge is The Walking Dead, again. My son has all ten seasons. I like watching the old way because there are extra bits like ‘the making of’ or interviews. The show parts I can let slide by as I have committed a lot to memory.
I was watching Outlander again. But it won’t have a new season until next year some time. I’d love to read another book or two, but I’m caught up there, too.
One thing I found in common between these two shows is the music. Guess what? Same musician in both. Bear McCreary is amazing!
Today was my last Beginning Recorder class with Jennifer Carpenter of the American Recorder Society. They were free. As soon as I can, I plan to join. There are more lessons coming up in September. I’m loving learning on my alto and soprano recorders.
Meanwhile, I have a lot of Kindle and paper books to keep up the education.
And there are lessons on YouTube like those of Sarah Jeffery and Team Recorder. She is so much fun.
For those who think Recorder is for grade school take a listen:
That beginning photo at the top of my post? I stepped outside with the dog. The wind was hitting me in the face and the sky looked like it disguised itself with a mustache. It felt so grand to feel such a cool breeze coming from the north. That meant a lot less smoke for us today. I’m thankful for that!
Maybe soon I can start taking walks!? I did learn at the doctor’s appointment on Monday that I have lost over 23 pounds now. Lots still to go but hey, it’s working.
After a very busy Monday: bone density scan then shopping and driving two hours both ways on roads that make it feel much longer and more painful than my recent six hour drives, and breathing smoke for weeks, this:
No. I didn’t play Tetris. I needed to do more rearranging in my ‘studio.’
My daughter is deeply in a move. So much so that they are living with no furniture for two weeks. Everything has already moved or has been given away.
Which brings me to my new acquisitions from her. Two folding tables and a cubicle shelf for hobbies and books.
That meant moving the smaller bookshelf full of music books to another location.
End of the piano facing the livingroom.
That left the window area for the cubicle shelving for art, crafts, more books.
The yellow bag has drawing goods. The Avatar bag crayons and colored pens and coloring books. Soon each will leave the bag for new cubes.
Now I’ve opened the smaller table for all kinds of fun.
Right across from the piano.
Meanwhile, we actually had a tiny bit of rain today. Not enough to put out fires but it cooled things down a bit.
Three more Marvel films moved me on the timeline. Captain America: the Winter Soldier, and both Guardians of the Galaxy. I did like G of G. They were more my kind of movie. And Grood is the coolest!
Okay, time to make some noise or music accordingly.
