My son and I are on season 4 of 7 now. I finally like it. At one point a long time ago, my husband and I watched it weekly, and at one point, we both lost interest. Now the second watching, I was accompanied by my own geek son and his inside information of the characters. We’ve come full circle as I read comic books to him to help develop a desire to read, and soon I didn’t get to be a part of the comic team.
When he is not in the room, I have been bingeing Virgin River. I started from the beginning and soon realized that I had watched the first season. Now I am finished. But not before getting my husband into it, so he is off watching it again.
I need another ‘me’ binge to watch while knitting or editing. I have some like The Originals that I can totally ignore. I have no idea which season I am on or what is going on. I just know I don’t have commercials, and I don’t have to watch with attention.
I do the same with Star Treks. Although I can often bring some of the ideas into my writing. And I get sucked into the story on this one.
As everyone is getting excited about the Christmas line-ups, I am sad that things that barely got back are going into the holiday hiatus. I have loved Grey’s Anatomy and Station 19, and how well they approached the COVID19 situation.
I hope you all are finding ways to stay interested in the world and find good writing tools. I find those who put down TV or movies don’t understand the depth it takes to take the original writing, then adds so many other levels of arts: acting, music, make-up, costumes, scenery, so many people doing the best they can to bring stories to life. I love to read, purely read. But I find so much in other artforms, even the bad ones have put in a lot of work.
Sunday is a special day of the week for me, thanks to technology. A 3 AM bedtime means my day starts at 10ish. I turn on the laptop and run and get my toast and coffee (or tea). By the time I’ve taken out the dog and set up my bubble sitting, I am ready to place the laptop on the footrest of the recliner and the plate on my lap. No, I don’t stick my feet out. I sit in a chair, in half-lotus, as that is far more comfortable and keeps my stocking feet warmer. On frigid mornings, I throw my electric lap warmer (Thank you, Rizza 💜) over me before setting up the computer and breakfast.
Now I go to church. No camera on, I may or may not have brushed my hair yet. And who wants to watch me eat? The church is a Zoom meeting of Unitarian Universalist is in Reno, Nevada. When I lived there, I only went a handful of times. I used to be into the weekly get up, get dressed up, especially when my children were small. But now that I can go in comfort in my own time and clothing. I can sing with the congregation as I choose. No stand up, sit down, thank you very much, my coffee is great.
The last few weekends, I have been enjoying different stars showing up for Galaxycon.com.
The above was one of my favorites. Though I am double or triple her age, I relate to her life story a lot. And she is a writer. I picked up her latest book:
Today I got to meet Michael Biehn of the Mandalorian and this afternoon Jessica Jones’ stars:
Krysten Ritter “Jessica Jones”
Wil Traval “Will Simpson”
Both cons were fun. By the way, many of these are free live. You only have to give your email address to send the confirmation and URL to get to the interview. If like me, life gets in the way, your computer glitches, you can still click on the confirmation within 24-48 hours to watch a taped version. And many can be found later on the YouTubes. Here’s an example of what I am going to watch later on tonight:
Once again. Going to a con is something I don’t think I would do. I know this is going to sound weird, but I can’t deal with costumes and masks. One of my best friends LOVES this kind of thing. I certainly enjoy it through her. And the mask issue is still an issue during COVID19. I wear one if I need to. I love it when you wear one around me. It shows you care. But I need to see lips and gesticulations to understand people talking to me. And Halloween scares me. Haunted houses scare me. I always worry that a real crazy person with real weapons will be there. And I HATE when folks jump out to scare me.
When the lockdown ends, and all things go back to live events, I will be, once again, the fair-weather friend that probably won’t be there. When the pains started, I had to bow out of writer’s meetings and board games meetings, or, yeah, the church; I’d ask to be Skyped in, but everything virtual was still new and uncomfortable. I hope that people will still do things like this. My eyes can’t drive nights, I can’t take flu shots for being allergic to the base (nearly died), and pain often keeps me from doing things I want to do. That doesn’t mean I don’t want to be a part of the meets. I’m sure I am not alone in hoping the zooming continues.
And the Tubes have great bits of help for people like me who are learning to edit their novels:
Oh, I forgot to say the other Sunday thing, and I think you all know what I’m going to say CBS Sunday Morning. My favorite part is the moment of zen at the end. By the way, YouTube has the full lineup of the show. Happy Birthday to my friend Yve and to PBS. And now:
First, the disappointing word count of 44,235. That is 774 words short of the goal of 45,009. But I will try to make that up tomorrow.
On the other hand
Two more slipper socks, and the toe of the first of the next pair ready to go. I added a few rows on the multi-frogged X-Wing loom of four socks. So maybe the words suffer for the soft yarn? If I yarn better can I get more words? Curious minds want to know.
Meanwhile, my son and I are watching S.H.I.E.L.D.
We are into season 3. It is a Marvelous background to write to. It is fun and has similar energy that I think my NaNo has.
In the mornings after Kelly and Ryan and the View, oops and the News and GMA3 I am rewatching the Crown I just got to the Kennedy part. By the way, the choices for actors for those two was so wrong!
By the way, I finally finished Poldark. I had to leave it for a while because it added to the dispare of the day. And the cold parts were hard to watch when the weather got cold. But I did enjoy it and wished for more when it ended.
I hate to admit to not having anything finished today.
Remember the socks on the CinDWood X loom (what I can’t help but call X-wing)?
I decided that they were turning out too wide. So I frogged nearly all four and readjusted and started three from the beginning.
Remember the half-finger gloves?
I got down to just below the thumb and can’t understand the tutorial for the next couple of rows. I’ve sent out requests to the designer to see if she can walk me through.
I have made a couple more ear warmers but something you can make in half a day doesn’t make me nearly as happy with the finished project as the hats in the above picture.
I didn’t finish my editing for the four previous chapters of Pandamapocolypse. I hope to finish that by tomorrow afternoon. Then I need to get a vague outline for the next 50K to add to that story. And I will try to beef out the characters so as to have more to write about.
Oh, and I haven’t finished the fourth and last season of Hart of Dixie. It is winding down. It is light fun. And one episode recently actually made me cry, Mostly I find it fun/funny.
If you want to watch something to escape the news and anxiety, and fun background while you get something done, this is it.
Tomorrow I may not blog as I need to get NaNoWriMoing pregame workup and then living the night of writing dangerously. If you are joining me, good luck! And
I know that Throw-Back Thursday is about pictures of ourselves in younger less dignified days, but the physical body only holds onto all the stuff our beings have been through our whole lives.
John Holton shares lots of music that I and other babyboomers remember with fondness on his blog. He mentioned Lloyd Thaxton the other day on The Sound of One Hand Typing. Regardless of the music I suddenly thought of the line that Lloyd Thaxton ended his show, “Always smile with your bottom teeth.” As happens often at my age I doubted my memory and needed to Google whether it was Lloyd … or maybe Soupy Sales.
I fell down the YouTube rabbit hole. My day was spent watching and laughing at the crazy Supman. A good place to get started is his biography.
My brother and my son and I watched and laughed so hard. At first, my son couldn’t remember Soupy. But I tried to explain that he was Pee Wee before there was Chairy. Finally, I just had to put the YouTubes on the TV. If you need a day to escape the crazies, this will do it!
Meanwhile, I searched all over for Lloyd Thaxton saying, “Smile with your bottom teeth!” That he ended his show with on occasion. That sent me down another memory rabbit hole. Remember this?
That was when I fell in love with Motown, and lipsyncing. What a fun show it was.
In my search, I learned that Lloyd passed in 2006. Maybe I knew and forgot? But it made me sad all over again.
By the way, Lloyd Thaxton had a blog. You can find it here.
I hear great one-liners all week. Even today I heard a couple on The 100. Did I write them down? Nope. By the way, I’m on my second watching. I can’t wait to see the new season!
Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “check/cheque/Czech.” Use one, use ’em all, use ’em any way you’d like. Have fun!
My mind is but a muddle of thoughts. So far the stream is but a drug-induced puddle. Yeah. I’m still on the antibiotic and the Vicoden. I decided to take half a pill rather than a whole because that was needed for pain but maybe it will last longer while the Amoxicillin takes care of the actual infection. My husband warned me that the Vicoden can do horrid things if you quit it suddenly so my thought is to take less at a time. My toothache mouth wants more, Who knew a little tooth could hurt so much? Yes, the ice-skate is looking like an option. (Castaway). I’ve slept a lot today. I think my body is trying its best to get me well.
To break up the monotony of bed and zombie drooling, we watched Crawl. On the one hand, it was good for immersing in cool water, swimming with the star as she escapes, just barely, alligators. That helped with spiking the adrenalin. I’ve lived in Earthquake land. Now I’ve lived in wind, possible tornado land. I’ve lived where the Mojave Green rattlesnakes were the worst of the animals we’ve dealt with. But mostly they didn’t chase us. Though their bites would have been deadly within minutes, my children learned to stay away (unlike this guy) make a lot of noise stomping so they are never surprised at your being there. They run away from people. Just watch where you place your hands and feet as you climb or hike.
But the alligator seems set on eating you alive. Besides the humidity, it is one reason I would never want to live in Florida or other southern domains.
Oh, back to Crawl. It made me tired. But that could be infections speaking not my usual Jaws loving energy,
Check it out should you get the chance.
Well, while I’m thinking of it, I might as well tell you about the other shows I’ve been watching. I can’t remember if it was early this morning or late last night we happened upon Only.
Yeah, no. Just kind of boring.
It was nice to see Chandler Riggs (TWD’s Carl Grimes) for a few minutes.
Over the last bit of time, I’ve finished Outlander, again, sadly. I’m nearly finished with all the related books by Diana Gabaldon. Yes, I will read other books by her!
I can’t wait until they can get back to filming.
So I decided to follow The Bag Lady‘s suggestion and watched Poldark. It gives the English version of the times. And I admit I will watch it all the way to the end of the series. But it is missing the time-travel and Doctor Claire Frasier.
This guy is gorgeous but feels like he should be in a vampire movie It is a good one to watch while knitting and getting my health back. The music has the feel of Outlander, even the occasional bagpipe.
Well, this stream went a different direction than I planned. Or am I still in the muddled puddle? I dunno. Let me check. Yeah, I haven’t moved an inch!
Hot off the Flexee Loom another hat! This one fits me. So… This is my yarn. Ah, but now that I know how to do the decrease, I look forward to making many more of these.
So the stats are 80 pegs of the Flexee Loom. Set up in alternate colors so as to do the two-by-two ribbing. And as I said with the smaller hat, working the purls was faster and easier than with any other loom. The loom is so lightweight and yet tough enough to deal with me and my fussings. The rest is a flat-knit stitch. until the crown. This one I made sure there were 7 inches of the hat before the beginning of the decreases. I worked the set of decreases three times. After the first set, I moved the loops so as to expose and remove every other link. Another set of the decreases and then again remove every other link. Then I removed the last loops as Kristen of GoodKnitKisses suggests in her YouTube Tutorial.
Other than knitting like crazy, we have been watching as much as we can of Disney+ while we have it. So I chose Frozen II,
the guys wanted UP (Isn’t it the sweetest show?)
and then my son chose Clone Wars. It is fun to go through the Star Wars things as his memories of all the toys forty years ago that appear in Mandalorian and Clone Wars.
We had some fun discussions of those days and his perceptions compared to mine as Mom. By the way, Ahsoka Tano makes it worthwhile. She and her friends finally helped me into that world.
How are all of you? How are you maintaining your sanity?
Working on my series: Haven.

Books, games, music, and life — filtered through the mind of a writer, drummer, and philosopher who thinks too deeply about all of it. If it moves something in your chest, I'm interested.
