Trying Tuesday

Sometimes I’m looking for other things to try. Today my curiosity is sending me to these tutorials.

I can’t seem to get myself to sit at the piano even though I miss it so much. So I thought maybe working on ear training and playing with chords rather than sight reading. This might do the trick for me.

I saw this on Facebook. Isn’t beautiful?

So I looked up Quilling.

I want to try watercolor and acrylic painting so here are a couple tires for those.

What are you trying these days?

A Facebook Truth

My piano friends know this is a fact!

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is โ€œa song from your childhood.โ€ Think of a song from your childhood and just write. Have fun!

It just so happens that I have been editing that part of my memoir this week. I was always singing. So Mom put me with her piano teacher, Mrs. Skinner.

There was a primer. It was green. In the first few pages, we’re tracings of my five year old hands labeled with fingering and the first ten notes of the piano staff. Thumbs, middle C, pinkies F left hand, G right hand. The first song was Typewriter. There was the Windsock song. I hum it when we walk near our little airport. I don’t quite remember all the words. But my hands still remember how to play it.

Then there was the Eskimo song. Once again, the words escape me, but muscle memory is strong!

My favorite song was Mister Dragon ๐Ÿ‰๐Ÿฒ (those emojis came up while typing–I couldn’t resist!)

Mister Dragon, tail a-wagging,

All you say is Boo!

Mister Dragon, Tail a-wagging,

I’m not scared of you!

And I can still play it! That book was so much fun. Mrs. Skinner had me color the pictures. When I learned a song, she pulled out her box of stickers. Some of the pages had so many stickers on them you could barely make out the music.

With all the moves, and giving piano lessons to my own students, that book is gone. And I can’t seem to find that book, even on Google. Does anyone remember it? I’d at least like to include pictures and the name of the book in my Memoir, Moving.

Ah, now that earworm is loose!๐Ÿ‰๐Ÿฒ๐ŸŽต๐ŸŽถ๐ŸŽผ

A to Z Challenge, Z

Zoom has been disappointing for me lately. For some reason, I don’t get to see my friends or the church service. I’m able to hear everything.

That’s the bad news. The good news was watching all the Zoo shows this weekend. I love those.

Speaking of zoos and animals, I was passionate about a certain segment on the CBS Sunday Morning Show.

It inspires me to try and write nature music. It might cause some
Or
I hope for a little of both!

Since I can’t find an N pic I’m guessing we take a day off every now and then from A to Z Challenge?

Meanwhile, this is interesting:

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is โ€œstarts with mono.โ€ Find a word that starts with โ€œmonoโ€ and use it in your post. Enjoy!

Mono Lake is one of the most enchanting places on Earth. On a solo drive from Southern California to Reno it captured my imagination during a rest stop at sunset. I wish I had taken pictures. The tufa looked like fairy castles and the little flies were the fae. Please click on the underlined Mono to see a bit of wonder. As I pulled into the scenic view “Time to Say Goodbye” was playing on my Camry’s CD player.

My favorite song, I think.

Here’s another view of Mono Lake:

Be glad I chose not to tell you about my non-kissed mononucleosis. The lake is far cheerier !๐Ÿคช

A to Z Challenge, H

How has this day escaped me? Ooh! Look at that, without even trying, I’ve used the letter! I usually do Make It or Made It Monday, but I just put all the projects away. And, yes, that was what kept me busy. The slipper socks I was making for me were disturbingly messed up. So I had to tink back down past the boo-boos. It was slow and boring, so I watched Knives Out and the Glass Onion while ripping the slipper to a workable place. Hey, those were fun! I didn’t expect to like them. I don’t like murder mysteries. But these are about a lot more than murder. Unfortunately, you have to rent Knives Out from Amazon. But you don’t need to watch Knives Out to watch Glass Onion.

This evening I decided I needed something in the background. I absolutely hate this show for all the intrigue and meanness. But the music is so captivating that I couldn’t help myself but buy the sheet music and hope to try to play it someday.

Somehow I need to get the area around my piano open so I can play again. Right now, it is holding the broken treadmill that we still haven’t gotten the people to do what they should about it.

Happy Monday!
