My NaNo Prep YouTube

Because NaNo starts tomorrow night at midnight I thought I better get this out right away.

Two writing friends discuss how they prepare for a month of writing. In this video, we mentioned several resources. The first is NaNoWriMo which stands for National Novel Writing Month. It is now international but still goes by that name. It was started by Chris Baty who wrote the book, No Plot No Problem. It’s a quick read and helps us all learn to write more freely. The website is NaNoWriMo.org.
Another book that Yve and I have found quite helpful at the beginning of NaNo is Building Better Characters by Marc McCutcheon
To find Writer here is that website: http://www.spacejock.com/yWriter7.html Simon Hayes keeps this program free but accepts donations. It is my favorite place to write.
Michele uses WriteItNow4. That is an exceptional program too, and for me, it is where I find character names that work for me. that website is https://www.ravensheadservices.com/download4.html I just noticed there is a new version, 6. I may have to update my version.
Yve uses OpenOffice a free office package that is almost as good as Microsoft’s version. You can find that here: https://www.openoffice.org/
The writing timer I was thinking of that helps you concentrate on writing is here: https://writeordie.com/
When using the character-building book above Yve uses a Randon dice throw app, and I use a Random Number Generator. Just type those in your Google and you’ll find a number of random generating apps.
I do hope all of this helps those who would love to see if they have a novel burning to get out.

One-Liner Wednesday

Let sleeping dogs lie.

(Especially when they are related to Jack Russell in spirit.)

And why can’t those busy dogs let sleeping humans lie?

Frustrations and Wins

Have you ever had the kind of day where one thing that needs to get done takes over your whole day as you try to resolve the first issue? Yeah, that is the kind of day I had. I couldn’t even get to my Zoom writers meeting because a medical team called (yes, they were there way after hours to accomplish all they need to do, so it must be universal). I thought I was done but then a dozen of other problems showed up like why wasn’t my cell working the autopayment should have gone through. Oops, yet new bank. Ugh! And in the past I could handle things like this, but having cataracts makes everything hard. Working on the computer is worst as no glasses seem to help. And certain things can’t be done on the phone, especially when I have huge fingers that never hit the right things. No, they aren’t huge. It just seems like it. And I’ve decided that that is the issue with not getting my inking or story done. To see what I am doing the light has to be just right, the glasses and closeness of the drawing paper have to be just right. Cursive writing falls into the same issue. So I have done a lot of stress-knitting to help. And my husband just served me chamomile tea. Yeah, he’s sweet, but that was in self-defense, I think. So to cut this short I will share the YouTube of the tutorial to cut hair to chin-length bob that I followed. I’m very happy with the results. My husband loves it. He even went to the back and took care of strays.

I wish I could take a picture of the hair without all the wrinkles and saggy neck from losing weight. But just take a look at the hair on the Bitmoji. Or Laureen’s (above) end results to get the idea.

The secret to success

Love this! I hope you don’t mind me sharing.

I was brought up to believe in the value of a meritocracy (my school’s motto was β€˜Virtus non stemma’ – β€˜Worth, not Birth’). It took me a very long time to recognise that the world doesn’t work that way. Far too many believe that our society is a meritocracy, and that rewards accrue to those most worthy; but the reality is an inversion, and a perversion: β€˜Birth, not Worth’.

I chanced upon β€˜The Pencilsword #TEN: On a Plate’ by Toby Morris not long ago. While looking for a way to contact Toby to ask for permission to reproduce it, I discovered that he says that β€˜#TEN’ is widely stolen, widely shared. It’s all good.

Toby’s insightful cartoon reminded me of a video by Veritasium on β€˜the success paradox’, which questions whether success is luck or hard work. I’ve included that below, too (together with a transcription).

I think that…

Finished Friday

Yep. Another pink mohair hat. This one I added a little basket- weave. That’s just 4 knits, 4 purls done in 6 rows then reversing the order. I did the pattern 3 times. I like how it turned out. For more details the check out my previous hat.

The Falling of Fall

Just a couple pictures or more if they show up well. I’m writing this on Monday and there is going to be rain by this afternoon, so the wind is blowing like crazy. I love it. The smoke level is low and hopefully the fires will die down a bit with the rain. One can only hope. I feel so badly for the people who are much more impacted by these fires that we are.

Okay, let me share these Fall pics.

This was a couple of days ago. A few yellow leaves on the tree and mesquite bush, a stray leaf on the ground here and there.

Now from Monday before the rain, which at this point I am still hoping for.

This morning as I was taking the picture the wind blew so hard a couple boxes left their area near the trash and landed in the driveway. Kali had to investigate this new part of the driveway. A lot more leaves on the ground now. But there are still green leaves here and there.

Happy Autumn, everyone!

Mum, Me and Steve. Β© willowdot21.

When I was a little girl I was frightened of dogs. My mum and Dad decided to get me a dog for Christmas. The dog arrived on Christmas Eve after I had gone to bed. Somehow the whole family managed to keep it a secret from me.

As I said the dog arrived at Christmas and Dad being Dad and an Irish Catholic

Steve was a beautiful dog, red fox in colour with a white chest and a couple of socks. He was a Hienz fifty seven, a mixed breed…

Delta Flight 15 on 9/11

This is the love I want to see for our fellow humans.

Lauren's avatar❀ Welcome To LSS Attitude of Gratitude❀

This came across my email today. I had to share after I cleared my tears.

A MUST read! A great story.
It is 20 years since 9/11 and here is a wonderful story about that terrible day.
Jerry Brown Delta Flight 15… (true story)Here is an amazing story from a flight attendant on Delta Flight 15, written following 9-11:

On the morning of Tuesday, September 11, we were about 5 hours out of Frankfurt, flying over the North Atlantic. All of a sudden the curtains parted and I was told to go to the cockpit, immediately, to see the captain. As soon as I got there I noticed that the crew had that β€œAll Business” look on their faces.
The captain handed me a printed message. It was from Delta’s main office in Atlanta and simply read, β€œAll airways over the Continental United States are closed to commercial air traffic…
