“That bull-through-the-fatigue approach obviously doesn’t work well after Chronic Fatigue Syndrome has set in.”

Semper AudaciaSemper Audacia by M. Pax

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A space opera novelette. This was more like it! Though this wasn’t a full size novel or series, I felt satisfied. The depth of character, world-building, plot, action, adventure, all left me feeling like I’d been to outer-space, meet new beings, experienced friendships, saved and lost lives. In fact, this little book crammed more in than many long series I’ve read.

All that said, I found myself lost trying to figure out if this were memory or the present. In the end, it all sorts itself out. Maybe the author wanted that bit of confusion.

I recommend this little prize to my fellow sci-fi friends.

Why I’m walking for ALS

elfkat's avatarAdventures and Musings of an Arch Druidess

I’m kind of frustrated and getting angry about all the people who keep bringing up all the other charities or issues that they want attention paid to and they get all bent out of shape that ALS is finally getting attention. I’ve heard the drought brought up and even it’s a white privilege issue but you know what? SO the FUCK what? Cancer always gets the attention. Stand up for cancer is coming up and there will be all kinds of whoopla about cancer or diseases like AIDS with the AIDS walk, both worthy but ALS has never gotten the attention… ever before and unlike Stephen Hawking most people don’t survive very long after diagnosis.

I’m watching someone I love with it now. Her partner and she struggle every day to get the care she needs and she needs 24 hour care. A year ago we thought it was arthritis…

This was a Fellow Warriors Blog earlier this year; (Such a great write up for us)

Who is Fibro Warriors ~ Living Life?

Melissa Swanson started Fibro Warriors~Living Life Facebook page in September of 2012. In her quest for understanding and supporting fibromyalgia, she joined various online groups and Facebook pages. Quickly she learned how important it is to be able to talk with others who have been there/done that! More importantly, she believes in sharing information from verified credible sources. Fibromyalgia is real. Melissa also believes in the value of surrounding one’s self with positive people in order to create an environment for healthy coping and energy conservation.

Twitter for Authors

pattyjansen's avatarMust Use Bigger Elephants

I love Twitter. I love Twitter a lot more than Facebook, because the latter likes to make decisions without my consent. Also, if you have an author page, Facebook doesn?t show your updates to all people who have agreed to see it. No, they only do that if you pay! What utter bullshit.

So I hang out on Twitter much more than Facebook. Everyone and anyone can see your posts. You can see everyone?s.

As author, I?ve found Twitter very useful in a number of ways:

1. Twitter is the most important and foremost source of raw, up-to-date news. I?ve seen pictures of things happening live that were only ever covered in retrospect by the major news services. I?ve seen scandals unfold. I?ve seen original tweets that were later deleted. I have a column called ?News? and a bunch of news services go in there: A couple of science-related people…

The Sound of Crickets
The Sound of Crickets by Marissa Farrar

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Bittersweet blogging. Those are the words that stand out in my mind when thinking about this book. I finished it last night just before Sandman Time. So I was left hoping I could remember to do the review justice when I finally put fingers to keyboard.

For my blogging friends, the senarios presented are not so far fetched. We find people we consider friends, from all over the world, with differing opinions, who we have never met. We care deeply when they report of illness or loss in their lives. We feel anger when we see that they are making mistakes that we know they must to learn who they are. We feel elation at those finding love or giving birth. We share ‘Ah ha!’ moments together and wonder, “Why didn’t I think of that?” when they present simplistic marvels within their blogs. Most of all we enjoy support and support others in the process. The Sound of Crickets embraced it all.

Spoilers keep wanting to slip out as I write this. Though at times in the book, you can see what is coming, still it is lovingly fed out to us, byte by byte. There are a few laugh out loud moments and others where you might need your kleenex, but it is worth the ride.

By the way, don’t feel like you wouldn’t know what to do with a book that blogs out the lives of four women. If you love books using letter, email, or tweets to convey the story, this works just as well. The fact, that these four didn’t know each other at all when they set up this blog leads us all through their getting to know each other and themselves while living their lives.

I wanted a book that would help me relax and go to sleep. The title drew me in. But this book isn’t boring at all. No, it isn’t a thriller/suspense novel, but the characters draw you in and lead you down roads that you might not expect. It gives a glimpse of humanity at its best and most human. I do hope others will pick it up as it is worth the read.

Dear Marissa Farrar (author), PLEASE, a sequel??? I want to see the characters grow even more, maybe add a few more bloggers?
