Professional Plot Outline Mini-Course by Holly Lisle

This book was an easy read. I took copious notes so that when I get ready to outline November’s NaNoWriMo I will be able to follow through. Though a lot of it feels like other books I have read on the subject, Holly Lisle’s personality shows through.
Ms. Lisle left plenty of examples off the top of her head. Because instruction given in other books don’t have examples, I find when I try what they present, it turns out to be quite a mess. Needless to say, I will not delete the book. I want it to be easy to refer back to in the next couple months.

Iโve been considering the topic of content edits over the last few days, since Iโm dealing with a first round of edits right now. Today I wanted to focus on something that is obvious for us writers: so obvious that we sometimes forget to do it.
When you realize that something in your plot doesnโt hold together, itโs important to ask why that is before trying to fix the story.
MASKING VERSUS CORRECTING
You see, masking a problem versus fixing it can be two different things.
When youโor your editor and beta readersโdonโt focus on the reason that some aspect of your plot isnโt holding up, your chances of just masking the issue, rather than fixing it, go up.
If a character is acting inconsistentlyโpropounding one point of view in one scene and then acting against it with no real consideration of it in a future scene, the real issueโฆ
