8 Famous Writers With Depression – Depression Center – Everyday Health.

This is nothing new. All the same, it is nice to know as alone as we feel in the pursuit of the arts, even at times the muse are the only ones talking to us.

Fibromyalgia Mystery Finally Solved! | The Guardian Express.

Not sure I believe this one. What I can relate is that when the doctor decided to test my blood to see if my blood sugar was low she saw that I was a ‘bleeder’ I have always known that my fingertips were so sensitive that I had to keep my nails long. I gave up trying to teach myself guitar. I found staccato tunes on the piano painful. Typing on a typewriter hurt. If my hands get cold while preparing fruits or veggies for salads I was pretty much a basket case and couldn’t eat said foods for hours after.

That said. The pain I experience in a flare feels like my bones from tailbone to ankles are going to explode. The next step of a flare goes up into my shoulders and neck. Then arms and shoulder blades at the level of bra-strap start in. But the very worst of it isn’t a headache, thank God-dess I don’t get those, too! but a fog that is so permeating that I am unable to do anything at all. Even remembering to go to the restroom ย slips my mind while in that fog. So did I just prove this latest study right? As I stated at the beginning, not sure. But it is something not to hear it is in my head! I am so tired of people showing and proving to me that they have overcome and thereby I am somehow less than they are! Do they think I like spending my life in bed? Do they realize how busy I used to be before this took over my life? Have they any idea how passionate I am about so many things that I can’t find the energy to enjoy? It is NOT depression! I am depressed because I can’t do stuff! Sorry for the whine! And no, I don’t do cheese: gluten-free/vegan!

Written with Tracy Rydzy, MSW, LSW

In a moment of frustration I (Tracy) posted this on my Facebook page dedicated to Chronic Pain, Tracy Rydzy- Oh What a Pain:

Sometimes I wonder, when something comes up that is difficult to accept or hurtful or upsetting because of living with chronic pain, do people try to be jerks about it or are they really too stupid to understand?

One of the pagesโ€™ followers, Cassandra, responded with her opinion and I think it will resonate with many readers. We co-wrote the following article:

When you live with chronic pain, it often feels that no one understands how difficult life is and people sometimes make comments that end up being hurtful. There are three key reasons why people say things or act in a careless or hurtful manner when it comes to dealing with chronic illness issues.

The first reason could beโ€ฆ

Last weekend I taught at the Crested Butte Writing Conference in Colorado. Amazing conference with fantastic presenters (highly recommend) and though it was memorable and magicalโ€ฆI thought it would KILL me.

It Didnโ€™t Begin Wellโ€ฆ

I am NOT a fan of early morning flights. Even though I had everything packed and ready to go, I wake up WHEN?

3:00 a.m.

โ€ฆand CANNOT get back to sleep.

So I get up, do some work and have plenty of time to get to the airport. I figure, โ€œEh *waves hand* Iโ€™m not presenting today, so I will just go to bed early.โ€

I finally get to Gunnison, Colorado, my ride picks me and the other presenters up. Sheโ€™s already scouted out a restaurant that had gluten-free and dairy-free food. YAY, ME!

Thanks for the editing lessons!

Victoria Grefer's avatarCreative Writing with the Crimson League

As I promised yesterday in my post about my scumbag brain and how I donโ€™t write down good ideas, todayโ€™s post is about two different types of editing: editing for content/cohesion, and editing for flow.

I want to talk first about how theyโ€™re different, and why editing for flow should be one of your last concerns, reserved for the final phases of producing reader-readiness.

Editing for Content and Cohesion

Editing for content and cohesion really go together. When you edit for content, you make sure your content is right. (WHAT??? Who could have seen that one coming?)

  • You donโ€™t have plot holes
  • Your characters are developed and, as far as you can identify at the phase youโ€™re at, all needed scenes are present and accounted for.
  • All the background info that you can imagine your readers will need is somewhere in the work.

Editing for content is largely editingโ€ฆ

Life In A Pink Fibro: Social Media for Writers #1: Blogging. I found this blog through Scriptorium’s Paper.li today. It is quite helpful for those of us who are new at blogging. Thought I would share. By the way, fibromyalgia friends, this isn’t that kind of fibro. Still, and interesting read.
