Creative Writing Tip: Read Outside Your Genre.

I found this to be true. I tend to get stuck in certain genres. My own writing tends to be sci-fi/fantasy and it is my favorite to read. Every now and then something comes along and breaks up my whole world. Take for instance my sudden Game of Thrones obsession. It is somehow very inspiring to my own writing. Yes, I know it is my genre. But I have been on a strong fem leads and writers of late. So this broke my own rules. Lately I read more non-fiction, like the book about blogging I just finished. Or autobiographies have started creeping in. I see how it affects my writing to get stuck in my reading diet. Creepy mysteries and thrillers have found their way into my reading and I find those add an edge to my writing.

What are your thoughts?

Dar49 Daily

Dar49 Daily. Wow, that was fast. And another small edition.

Paper or plastic – print and electronic books compared [infographic].

Kindle with text-to-speech is the only way for my old eyes. I was able to read 225 books last year because of this system. Before Kindle my reading habits had faded to the background of my life. I missed my dear friend. Books had been my food for so long. Now I am back to devouring four or five at a time!

What’s your preference?

The dar49 Daily

The dar49 Daily. Is out. Some stories repeated. Computer glitches stopped me from fixing them. Well, maybe there are folks who didn’t see the repeats before. Lots about screenwriting. I have dabbled in screen writing and have a fascination for how movies and television shows get started. These are stories that I enjoy learning about. If you have different needs let me know, or make your own paper and invite me to read it. I think this is a fun way to get to know each other and see other points of view.

Dar49 Daily

Dar49 Daily. Yep! I have a Paper.li paper. It is fun to work with. I select the news that I want to see. I try to keep what I choose positive, Earth-friendly. but bring attention to social injustices. The paper is heavy, right now, about Game of Thrones and fibromyalgia health issues. Oh, and I try to find a lot of articles on writing and books. Hope you all like it. The thing is, when you start to set up your paper, you get to put in the search bar the things you are interested in. Up pops a bunch of news feeds from AP through Twitter. Then you go to your paper and run a refresh and pick and choose from what is presented. I think it is a  fun, informative procedure. AND I don’t have to write in journalism form, I can stay my emotive, opinionated self over here. All AP style is done for me. 🙂

Interesting read. Some great ideas. Nice to know that reading level less that fifth grade are best as mine seems stuck at third grade since menopause. 🙂

Gratitude and Friends

I just finished sending a thank you note to a friend. This is what happened:

My eyes were getting worse and I found I couldn’t read ‘tree’ books. My friend, let’s call her Jane, heard my complaint and said she had a page magnifier. I declined it as I didn’t want her to sacrifice her own vision. Then I got paid and went ‘Amazoning’. I found one fairly inexpensive that might work. Meanwhile, another friend, let’s call her Sally, was upset that she couldn’t see to do her bead work. She and Jane met up together. Later Sally told me that Jane was passing a page magnifier to me. It works great for my needs and I passed the hands-free model to Sally.

The next email I read took me to this WordPress article.

Gratitude and Friends.

I am so grateful for my family and friends. Often it is hard to tell who is which.
