Okay (shoot I need a new word to start a blog, don’t I?), I started this two minutes until midnight so I think it still counts. After all, I haven’t gone to bed yet for the night so it is still today.

I had a wonderful day. Today was the meeting of the Hugger Hats group I make most of my things for. It is such a committed group of people and it wasn’t just women. Whatever method of making comfort items for the less fortunate is all it takes. But I found out that we as a group have given away 1400 hats and things.

The group has phoners who work with social workers, and ombudsmen, and people who take donations and find appropriate receivers. Others in the group do the driving the hats to the right places. We all make our items from donated yarn and then bring them to the library here and the librarian makes sure all finished projects get to the central house and all crafters get their yarn. It has grown to quite the organization for such a small town. Most of the items end up in nearby towns and cities. It makes me feel good that I am part of a group of people who care so much of others.

AND we get out and visit and enjoy the sunshine (yeah, we had that today!).

Best of all, I came home and Kali and Hubby had done okay without me! Hooray for a good day!

Kali Sees Something is Up

Hey, MommaDar! Come down and walk with me. You have on your clunky Crocs so you’ll be okay.

20170314_122422

I see spring all around. But do you smell that?

20170314_122209

I think it is the dog in the sky. I think I smell that wet stuff.

20170314_133355

And the same stuff over there.

20170314_133355

And do you guys know what MommaDar said to me? She said that wet stuff is called rain. And rain is what makes this:

20170314_133029

She calls weeds, I call grass and I like it to chew.

20170314_133035

That turns into this which makes MommaDar A-choo!

20170314_13321120170314_133324

But the buds on these trees, especially the little apple tree makes her happy. So the Wet Stuff can come help us. Thanks for walking with me!

Thursday’s Toss-in

I feel so proud that I have written in this blog every day since the New Year. So I had to make sure I tossed on in here. Okay, so technically it is no longer Thursday, but since this is the end of a very busy day, 12:15 still counts as my Thursday.

This was a unique day in that it was just me and the three furries. Hubby and brother off doing their things. So I caught up on laundry and cleaning this and that. Started some slippers. Then popped myself in the studio and got reacquainted with Moonlight Sonata. Though I could see the spiderwebs of lack of playing the muscular memory held it’s own and it sounded like Music was nearby. As warm is beginning to happen, I expect to be in there more and clear out the webs in my brain and enjoy the process.

I had hoped by now to be outside taking walks with Kali but the wind is still too fierce for me to try. What is that about March’s lions and lambs?

So, that’s all there is and Kali says it’s time to close the computer. She’s pretending to be asleep but her little eye keeps opening.

Here are the starts, continuings, and finishings of the day. Kind of a jumbled mess. Let’s see if I can sort this out.

This little guy is done. That string doesn’t belong to him.

20170302_195008

This little guy still needs arms, a face, and a scarf to keep him warm. (the 2 is for how many rows into the arm I am.

Ribbing on the beginning of a purple hat. Haven’t decided what stitch for the body of the hat.

20170302_222313

Middle of the basket weave rust hat. I am loving working with my oval loom.

On a different note (C#?), I am reading The Shadow Land by Elizabeth Kostova. It is so intriguing that I had to keep my hands busy while listening. This was so inspiring that I had to run into my cold studio and play the piano for a while. I miss playing but that room is SO cold! Found out Kali either doesn’t like the piano (she doesn’t like noises, like cell phones, or computer, etc.) or it was too cold for her, too. The session was long enough to find that muscular memory could still get through a couple favorites. And my ear/eye heard a couple songs I had never played but felt the need, now, to learn to play them. Funny how time away from music makes me feel like I’m dying without it. Can’t wait for the room to get warmer so I can spend more time playing.

While leaving my studio I looked over at the trees. Yeah, the Christmas trees I couldn’t decide about before. Well, the lights don’t work anymore. So I have started the process of putting it all away. I will take the time to see if there is something I can do to fix the lights, otherwise, I will have to buy more by next year. This frees up the space for sofas. We really need sofas in that room for when family and friends come to visit. I know that within the month it will start getting warm enough to want to be in there more.

One-Liner Wednesday–Spring

It was spring today! I actually enjoyed being outside for a while! Yes, I know there is snow in our future but I was so happy today–and warm enough not to have on a jacket!!!!

20170222_203015

What did she say?

20170301_220528

Are you sure?

20170301_220514

Spring means WALKS! And lots of time outside!

Meanwhile…

This little guy is here now.

20170227_122116

These guys were unimpressed.

20170227_231602

This little guy needs a face but he is farther along that his buddy still on the loom. I love making these Tiny Dolls. As you can tell by this picture my next project needs to be Getting a Grip (a new one) made.

20170226_232122

It suddenly occurred to me today how I can help Kali not be left at home alone. She has separation anxiety and will tear up the place if left alone. That was why her MamaLaura (my daughter) had to giver Kali to me. She had to go to work and leave the poor pup alone. We are retired so there is almost always someone here so she is never alone. But should I need to go to the city (an hour and a half away) on the senior bus it might be that she wouldn’t be happy. But there might be a time when I need to go to the doctors or something.

So I was looking at this page: United States Service Dog. Has anyone done this? It says I don’t need a doctor’s note though I could probably find my doctors who put me on disability ages ago. She does help me feel better just by being so cute! She’s been well trained as far as simple commands. I think she’d do well on the bus just sitting with me and giving me the pain distractions I need to get through the rough part of the trip.

It is very beautiful (scenic) to see but the road itself is so full of potholes and my tailbone usually hurts so bad by the time we get to town that I can barely walk. After a full day, coming home is even worse, especially if it is dark and I have nothing to distract me from the pain that is so unbearable that I have to sit straight up and not lean back. Then it starts hurting my whole back. Once I am home I feel crippled for a week. It sets off huge fibro flares that make me worthless to do anything but sleep.

Look, I know that having the dog with me won’t prevent a lot of that pain, but it may make it a little easier to deal with. Does that make sense?

Now I just need to figure out how to afford it. I’d love her to have the vest and all, but even the basic (just a certificate and ID card) is $69. Is this a good idea or am I on another wild goose chase that wouldn’t help either of us and money out for nothing????? Are there things I need to think about that maybe others have gone through? It seems like a win-win idea but maybe I am being naïve?

I made this using this YouTube from LoomAHat The only difference was that I had already rib stitched K2P2 rather than the K1P1 that she (Denise M Canela) recommends. Other that that I think this ear warmer scarf turned out great! I started another in green almost immediately.

Another difference is that I had Kali on my lap nearly all the time I was looming. Just like she is right now as I type this. From left to right: pillow, Kali, my leg (pink sweatpants) and laptop.

Stuck like glue! I feel loved!

After the Mud, More Snow

I wasn’t expecting this. We knew it was going to rain but didn’t expect snow that might stick until nearly noon. But look at that sky. It’s not finished.

20170219_103729

These two are the front ‘yard’.

20170219_103743

We have a feral cat that we take care of under the front porch.

Looking at the backyard through the avocado tree in the dining room.

20170219_103911

Behind the car the snow was smooth. Weird!

20170219_104043

In front of the car, mud. But do you see Kali? (Sort of a “Where’s Waldo?” moment)

20170219_104237

Well, she’s finished with this mess! Bring the Spring time, please!
