Well, can you tell it is NaNoWriMo time? Here, yet again, is something that isn’t me working on my novel. Yeah, let’s read and review someone else’s novel while we figure out how to write again.

Basically, this has been by bedtime book. I’ve been reading it in the Omnibus but decided that I need to review each book separately and will review the whole series when finished with the Omnibus.

In this first book, Seized, we learn about the main character, Naomi, her life as a mediator, her handsome fiancé, and her sudden being taken over by a goddess, White Buffalo Calf Pipe Woman, during a sweat bath with her “Woo woo” (translation: New Age) best friend, Shannon. I believe peyote was involved. But soon Naomi and friends are sent out on a quest to save the world. Yeah, a lot to put on one person and her friends.

There is a lot of old-world Pagan/Norse mythology, a couple Native American tribal religions and the Judeo/Christian theologies. Thought-provoking fiction to say the least.

There are scenes of action and moments of philosophy. But best of all, for a first book in the series, no cliff-hangers.

This book is free on Amazon. Well worth the price! I am well into book two so I am trying to remember book one. I hate it when I do that. Let’s blame NaNo, shall we? Enjoy!

Disclaimer: I was given this 4 in 1 book containing this series for free for review. I have to admit that is has been the best way to read it. One right after the other. In this case, listening to British female text-to-speech just kept the story going. But I couldn’t tell when I was in the “Alpha” book. I did feel Deidre becoming stronger though this book shows her struggles with authority and addictions more than the others, I feel. Even so, it is fun to watch her grow as a character and as a leader. Mostly I stick to the first review below.

Disclaimer: I was gifted this book for an honest review.

Maybe it was because my life has been so busy with fun road trips and not so fun hospital time for my husband, but, I had a hard time getting through this story. Usually, I can’t stop reading a Sara Reine book. There were just so many places where my mind wandered away from the story.

I think it is hard to make the main character a favorite for me. Deidre has no respect for Rylie our favorite Alpha werewolf. She doesn’t even have respect for her own alpha. But then he isn’t worth the respect. Meanwhile, Deidre Tombs goes all gooey about a dragon shifter and/or her alpha. It’s hard to know where she stands. She hasn’t much to stand on as she searches for her own animal to shift to. Once she finds it, she has a hard time making it happen.

Okay, all that aside, I am still looking forward to the next book to see what happens next. No, we weren’t left on a cliffhanger. We were left with many threads left undone, possibly fraying at the ends. How can our prolific author tie this all up? Wow!

Disclosure: This was my second read of Omega as it was included in a four book gift from the author including the newest in the series, PAS. I decided to reread just to remind myself of the story so far. I stick with the review below. This current copy isn’t loanable as it is just for review.

But, hey! This was another Sara Reine adventure! How could I not love it? Yet another series is grown from the Six Moon Summer beginning. How it is possible Ms. Reine can be so prolific? She’s the alpha writer!

I have to admit to being a bit lost at first. What in the world is an Omega shifter? But that is, indeed, what the question of the book is. Even though we get to see Rylie for a bit, this story isn’t from her point of view. Now we get to see what has happened to the world since it ended and started again. Yet evil still exists and causes all kind of problems. Our Omega shifter must learn to deal with it all and figure out where she fits in.

This was not my favorite of all the books, but it was fun to revisit old friends and see that there is still hope of more story yet to come.

Well, this is the last of the series that was/is free. The rest will have to wait until my finances settle after our move. Though it hasn’t been my favorite series, I am wanting to know what happens next.

I have to admit that I like the element of the youngest, the daughter, even though a good witch, has some mental problems to overcome. It isn’t the usual anger issues, rather she has depression and anxiety that is of agoraphobia nature. Bad for someone that needs to be helpful to the people of the island and her brothers. Being the youngest she is watched out for by her older brothers and a vampire who is a family friend from generations ago. The bad news is she seems to be falling in love with him and another guy on the island. Not your usual triad issues. Yay!

A new element in this story is the giant leeches. Yuck! And there are mermaids! So this may be my favorite so far. Add to these new issues, the brothers are still working with their separate abilities of death-speaking and werewolf changing. So there are a lot of story-lines to follow. I can’t wait to see what happens next!

I read this on the heels of the first book of the series. These are more story-driven rather than by humor. Still with vampires and werebeings not being my favorite types of characters, there are enough witchness to make me happy to continue reading.

As with the first book, this is a quick read that is meant for adults as the situations are sexier than a lot of stories out there. But sex is not what leads the story, it just happens and isn’t too in your face. If you like vampires and werewolves this is your kind of series.

The price is right, this book and its prequel and sequel are free. After book three there is a fee involved. Normally that wouldn’t upset me. An author does need to get paid. But my budget is about as strained as it can get with a move imminent in my life. But I will try to finish the series once the money settles down.

So far, both of the books in this series are quick reads. took about an hour or so each. So if your looking for something lighter this is for you. It’s just not of a comedic nature. That’s okay. There’s enough to the story to keep you going.

This is such a fun series! I barely finished reading book one that I grabbed the next one and started reading. There are many laugh-out-loud moments with this witch in training. Leigh, her cursed writing desk and her very familiar, marvelous cat, Luna, find ways to have adventures no one had thought would happen in the life of an author. Writing after all is a lonely, boring life. Right? Not for this newbie witch.

These are quick reads but don’t feel like short stories. They are layered with full characters and a world that melds the real, current world with a few fantasy yet historic realms thrown in. Each book is based on the last but has its own personality.

I picked up the first book and this book for free. Now I have to find a few pennies ($2.99) to get the next book, so it may take a while before I get to read the rest of the series. But I will after the move is completed and I am bored–probably in the coming winter. That will add some light to my frozen life ahead.

That was fun! If you like dark humor like the show, ‘Dead Like Me’, this may be up your alley. It is a quick read but not so quick that you feel cheated. I loved the main character, Lisa Carron, widow, mother of teens, and now, whether she wants it or not, Grim Reaper. Be aware, this is funny. I laughed out loud a couple times even though it was time to be quiet and get ready to sleep.

This book made me want to read book two, but I just can’t afford it yet. (Trying to save money for the move coming up.) But when I can I look forward to reading more about this wonderful reaper of death and her family.

By the way, I read this using the British female text-to-speech on 2x speed. Maybe that means nothing to you, but to me the TTS is very important to my reading experience and I think it plays well this story.

Well, this was fun. And different. But it is what I expect from Q. Kelly. I love the way she writes. I love her characters and her world building. Her plots are always just a little surprising and fun.

Don’t get me wrong, This story deals with some depressing issues, death and loss. But ghosts are involved and love. Lots of love. And growing of characters.

This story seems to be a short one as it stops midstory. But turn the page and a whole other twist arises. Nope. Not telling. Spoilers!

What pulls you in at the beginning of the story is the children who are now ghosts. Their world is just the vacation cabin and a small amount of land surrounding it. It is from their point of view. Gradually we get to know the author who is stuck at that cabin with writer’s block. Can you see the fun you are about to take by joining them her their world? You will be inhabiting many POVs by the end, but they all help the story to grow.

Though this book includes some lesbian love, it is mild for the straights that might find that sort of thing offputting. There is just so much love of all kinds in here that it all equals out. And it makes you think… what if????? I like those kinds of stories. But that is a hallmark style for Ms. Kelly. I love how she cooks a story to perfection. I was going to just give this four stars. But I think I will give five. I know I will think back to this story Time and Time Again, again. 😉 I may even need to reread it to delve into this vacation space again.

Oh, this was so fun! I didn’t even want to write the review yet because I wanted to leave the glow that this story left me in. I loved the whole series, but I think I loved this one little story the best. That’s because Zuzana and Mik were my favorite people. They were so gutsy, smart, and vulnerable. Moreso, I think, than Karou, who was supposed to be the star of the trilogy. In fact, I don’t think I have ever fallen in love with the secondary characters in such a way as I did these sweeties.

Yet… this is a love story. Girl wants to meet guy, guy wants to meet girl, but neither know how the other feels. Rather than being full of angst as most teen romances are, this is full of confidence and imagination. Sure there are self-doubts, but these two find ways to rise above and make it happen in spite of themselves and because of themselves.

This little book is so full of magic. Yes, Karou’s magic but. also, the magic of spirit. I believe that the whispersync for voice with the narration of Khristine Hvam and Kevin T. Collins respectively playing for Zuzana and Mik. They both did marvelous jobs. And though this book has text-to-speech, if you can get the audio version to read with, do so.

I hate leaving the series behind. I have so enjoyed every moment of it. It engulfs the reader and doesn’t let go. I do plan to re-read these. Suggestion: If you are going to read this one either read it after number two or after the third book. It will make more sense that way. Oh, how I wish for more!

You know that teary-eyed feeling you get near the end of a book/series where you start reading slower to stretch out reading the last words? Yeah, that happened to me. Even though it wasn’t necessarily sad, still I knew I was leaving my friends behind, possibly to never read about them again. I do hope that is not the case. But there was no cliffhanger. The threads, even those I had forgotten about were nicely tied up. So the chances are there might not be more. I will miss everyone from this series. Even the bad guys had depth.

But my favorites were the secondary characters: Zuzana and Mik. I LOVED them! Maybe even more than I loved the lovesick Karou and Akiva. I don’t hate the main couple. They do what they should to remain superheroes. Oh, and I want to mention one more person, but I don’t want to spoil it for others. I really miss that person. But I’ve missed him for two books. What I did learn today was there is a short book about ZuzaMik. Got it. Will read it VERY soon.

The writing of these books is my favorite kind of writing. It is fast and full with the right amount of dialog to counteract descriptions. I want to study how Laini Taylor’s writing more so I may be reading these books again and again.

And then there is the icing on the cake: narrator, Khristine Hvam. She brings the story to life. She adds attitude where it might only be suggested by the writing. I look forward to reading more by Ms. Taylor read by Khristine Hvam.

May I suggest that you make sure you have a couple days to dedicate to just reading. I didn’t do anything but for the past few days. reading way past bedtimes and food times, and nearly past pee times, oops! All of it was worth it! What a wonderful story!
