This was the end of the series. May I say I am relieved? Too many tensions of life-threatening issues, vampires, etc. Too much co-dependent romance. At least it didn’t leave me on a cliff this time.

I like the idea of a mermaid who is part angel. How would that work? Wouldn’t it be fun to see her discover fun things she can do that her family and friends can’t? But it seems that the only way this being discovers her abilities is when in danger.

Though I was not too fond of the plot, I liked the way Lucia Ashta tells a story. So I have Seasoned Magic on my currently reading to start when I have a moment. At least it is about midlife women instead of young beauties. Ugh, I get tired of that!

So I learned that this book was free on Kindle Unlimited and decided to give it a try. First, I’m not a romance fan. But the story sounded interesting.

Let me be honest. I wouldn’t say I liked either of the main characters—one too pretentious, one too judgy. But people come in all sorts, and isn’t that what I want to see in my books? I continued reading, and by the end, well, the penultimate chapter, I was crying for these two.

It would be a great beach read. It is light enough not to have to get deeply involved. Yet, there is enough meat to keep you involved and caring about what happens next.

Mothers and daughters, family relationships, strokes, photography, charity, wealth, and war. These are some of the topics this lesbian May/December romance covers. For the most part I loved the whole story.

However. The grumpy old lady and the perfect ingénue trope was quite upsetting. It seems a dysfunctional relationship in the making.

Still, there is enough meat to the story to keep the reader interested. And the erotica was kept to a minimum just spicy enough to feel real.

I always want to know what happens afterwards. How will they make the relationship work?

Two things ruined this book for me. The first is such a big one that I may not read anything else by this author. I HATE CLIFFHANGERS! If I like characters and the world enough, leave me in a safe place, I’ll be back for more!

The second problem was that way too much helpless romance in both the main character and her love interest. Ugh! How about using that energy to find out her abilities. A part angel part mermaid could have made it quite interesting, but, no, we have to have romance take over and make the pair helpless once again. Ugh!

But maybe I am too old to get the need to be helpless? I think romance should happen between peoples’ strengths. Then the romantic interaction is so much more appreciated. This is a young adult book. But why do we need separate categories? A good book is fun for all!

Still, plenty of people loved this series so try it for yourself.

Game show romance, advice column fun with an edge. Not only is there a lesbian love story, but one that involves a bit of a different issue. I don’t know what it is called, but one of the characters doesn’t read people well. I must admit that I related to that character. Not only do I not read people, I fail to see weight gain or loss, understand that a friend or a family member needs a hug. That kind of thing. It can be embarrassing. By the time I get it, the moment is gone, and the conversation or situation calls for something else.

It was a book of hope for those of us that are people slow. The new friend helps by being understanding. Well worth the read, just for the education about types of people. And fun in a reality-show way.

I picked this book up on Kindle Unlimited. Try this quick, fun read.

What have I said about mysteries and romances? Travel. In this romance, I got to go to London. Through the main character, Rory, I got to take a job in London and meet with an old friend who sets her up with a new friend.

This was another Kindle Unlimited, so it was a free, sort of, read. I read it in one night. Yes, that was with text-to-speech.

I found the main character okay. I like her new friend, Imogen, boring, but Rory loved her, so that’s not for me to care. I was in London.

Anything more gets into spoilers, and the book is too short for that. It was fun. Give it a try.

Wow! For a free book, this was great! It’s still free; you should try it.

The main characters were unusual, and the main two, quite likable. I can’t say that for the rest of the town. Even the relatives are obnoxious. But they made the story more interesting.

The author kept me going. Gripping is the word that comes to mind. I had a hard time putting the book down. Once again, not the best book to help put you to sleep.

I decided to read this as a friend noticed it in my ‘to read’ shelf on GoodReads and hit ‘like.’ That made me notice it and decide to read it right away. I’m glad I did.

This wasn’t a favorite book for me. I was not fond of the characters all that much. I had hoped for more medical and less romantic angst. The erotica scenes were okay. They were necessary for the plot to move along.

I did find it interesting to watch how jealousy and trust issues played the same as they do in straight books and see some of the reasons they exist in the first case.

It may be me or this time in our lives that the book didn’t work for me. Maybe you will read it and love it. I do like how T.B. Markinson writes her stories. Regardless of how invested I am, I find I must read to the end to see what happens. This one did end nicely.

Oh, and I got this on Kindle Unlimited, so free-ish!

Book three and aiming to get the next book? I guess I liked it! I am growing to like the characters. Even if the world is dark and they keep finding themself in dangerous places being experimented on or enslaved and lots of running and hiding.

I’ve been listening to the book on Kindle Unlimited. In this case, Audible, narrated by Carla Mercer-Meyer. I love how well she acts out the characters.

This is a dark dystopian series. Yeah, I don’t know why in the darkness of 2020 I choose to read these, but I guess it has kept me more optimistic than others as I know it could get worse. Let’s read these and prevent this from happening!

Now on to number four!

I finished this book a couple of days ago. Snow, elections, NaNoWriMo, and other distractions got in the way of my review. Sorry.

This is the second book of the Breeder series. The story of the girl looking for her mother and aunt continues. It is far from an easy feat. But Riley and her boyfriend and her brother try to find a way to them.

The story kept me interested. Often I found it nauseating. I think that was the author’s intent. Still, I couldn’t put it down. Maybe it was the train accident effect? You can’t just let it go. You have to look. That is the very reason I just ordered the Kindle Unlimited version. I think the first and second are KU also. So what is there to lose? Find Aunty and Mom!
