The Unyarner

In the life of those of us who spend a lot of time with yarn, there are the ribbit days. You know when you have to rip and rip what you’ve worked so hard to make. They call it frogging. I’ve just lived through a couple of these days that look like this:

(Pixabay)

First, my fine-gauge sock loom broke. When it was just one peg I managed to put the extra loop onto another nearby peg and work it. It was a pain but doable. Then the one next to the broken one broke. There was no way, that I could figure to work the extra loop. I thought I could capture all the little loops on a circular knitting needle but… you know how an idea doesn’t work in your head and just can’t be done.

I had another sock loom in the process, too. But I wasn’t happy with the yarn or the colors. Both socks had the ribbing, leg, and heel done. That’s the hardest part. But I just wasn’t happy with that one and the broken one was useless. There was nothing left to do. Rip it out! And twice my lap looked like the picture above.

It took two days to figure out how I was going to deal with my goal of making a couple pairs of socks. My hero, my husband, bought me some Gorilla Super Glue. My hero, my brother, glued in the pegs. I honestly don’t hold a lot of hope for that loom but it was worth the try. Besides that particular loom is only about $15. If I decide to go that way.

Meanwhile, I found another loom and started another sock. I hope this one lives. I’ll share it when it’s finished. Oh, what the heck. Here’s the life of a yarner!

Hard to believe that this will be a sock looks like a sick tambourine!

Finished Friday

I am SO happy! I finished MY short socks! And they fit!!!

They are so comfortable!

This is the loom I used.

This is all the yarn that was left! I got crazy toward the end hoping I’d have enough. But it worked out! These will feel cool in sneakers or croc. Yes, I wear those ugly things around the house. They are so comfortable, they make my back and legs feel better.

By the way, the pattern I used was loosely based on this:

Make It Monday 20190225

So the Hat Huggers just gave away 100 adult hats so our fearless leader, Carol, requested more adult hats. Here’s another in the making. Fold up brim and all knit. I love this yarn!

Here is the Costco Animal crackers jar full of this marvelous yarn. So soft I want to use it all the time.

I only have the toe of the second sock for my brother!!!!!!! See the toe of the other sock sticking out the top? That is so I can make sure that both socks are the same.

I folded up the current sock brim so you can see the finished sock I stuck inside the current work in progress.

I gave up this little hat and toy kit for the sock and adult hat but every now and then I add a few rows. The little loom holds the leg part of the brown doll like the blue and white one (that needs a matching hat). The larger loom holds the hat for a baby. I love how the yarn is striping up. By the way, the hat and doll are based on those of LoomaHat.com except I love using the baby looms of KB.

What are you working on? It doesn’t have to be knitting, just hand-made something.

Disappointed 20190222

I’m so disappointed in myself. Remember that pair of socks I have been working on for three years? Well. Not steadily. I’d work on a sock and make mistakes and frog. Over and over. I finally got one sock done and it fit my brother. I figured I finally understood what I was doing. Yay me! So I figured I’d have that second sock done by today for his birthday. I’ve been working on this sock for a week and a couple days. But here it is nearly midnight and my hands are hurting and my eyes are crossed. It ain’t gonna happen.

I said happy birthday to my brother this morning and asked if he wanted a sock and a third. He laughed.

Here’s where I am right now. I’ll probably finish tomorrow.

I don’t know if you can see that both socks are accounted for. The second is still on the look. Just finished the heel. You can see it in the first picture. The second it just so you can see the type of loom.

Well, guess I’ll mosey on to bed and start working again tomorrow. Nighty night!
