This was the nearest book as we still have Christmas happening in our Christmas Valley home. I misread the instructions. I thought I was to use the first three words in the first full sentence. So there’s that. Here’s the first real page:

The first three words sang to me from this book I’ve yet to read: On the tenth of … the next… December didn’t fit in the rules but called to me as it is the day after my birthday. The tenth is a day late but usually, especially for Sagittarius beings, part of the month of birthday/Christmas a confusion of winter wear and honest attempts to make it special. But somehow, I feel it special now without any presents. Can anyone believe when they are seventy? But I still do the snow dance and get happy over certain songs.

That was a sidetrack. I think I meant to go through how Christmas is still here. AND how I still haven’t read this book. I pack it away with the Christmas decor. I do love Cornelia Funke books. And aren’t those pictures cute?

I know this is supposed to be a stream but I feel that was the Jot needed to suffice. Knitting and binging Gilmore Girls (were mid-fifth season) are distracting the writer in me. I hope you all are having a great weekend! By the way, another snow is expected tonight so the little bit leftover is going to get some friends.

And here were the instructions per Linda that I obviously didn’t read close enough:

Your prompt for #JusJoJan and Stream of Consciousness Saturday is: “the first 3 words of the first full sentence.” Okay, follow me here. This is what I want you to do: 1. Grab the closest book to you when you sit down to write your post. 2. Open it to a random page. 3. Locate the first complete sentence on that page. 4. Use the first three words of that sentence to start your post, then take it from there–write whatever comes to mind. That’s it! Have fun!

Per Linda:  Your prompt for #JusJoJan and Stream of Consciousness Saturday is: “ow.” Find a word that contains “ow” or use it as a word in your post. Have fun!

Wow! Well, quite the difference from Linda’s SoCS, with all the pretty snow pictures. She says Christmas hasn’t been white most of the time since she moved to her home. We’ve been here in Christmas Valley four years and except for this year, it has snowed for a lot of the Halloweens, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. This year it looks like April. We even have some grass. Yes, we had a dusting last night but I didn’t see much of that, night owl that I am, it was melted away by the time I got up. April snow! Except the day isn’t as long as it should be.

The thing is most of my growing up time, I lived in Sunny Southern California. If we wanted snow we would drive up to Big Bear and see it and come home to get warm. I didn’t understand the Christmas cards and the wintery wonderland stuff. Give me a good beach and I’m happy.

Reno was nice. but it was big-city snow. Dirty icky snow. Chrismas Valley lived up to its name every year. Beautiful snow with perfect timing. Well, my husband may not think the snow was perfect when he broke his shoulder walking down our driveway a couple years ago. But it was the layers of pretty over icy. Deceiving snow. It looks soft like things look when I don’t have on my glasses, but it was mean snow. OW!

Do you all still have your trees up? We do. It had snowed a little before we erected our little forest of three trees. I refuse to take it down until there is real winter going on here! I will try to take a picture through the window if it happens. What if there will be no more snow? What if this is the opposite of the Starks? Spring is coming. And it will last years and all we will have is Spring and Summer for the rest of our lives. If I only had a pool, that would be okay, I think. Oh, and we need to get rid of the summer fires. Sorry, Australia. Ours wasn’t as bad. But it does seem to be pointing to global warming. Now I’m sadder, madder and scared. Scowl, frown, twitching brows. GROWL!

So Weather Underground says we may have snow next Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Let’s grab that piece of hope, okay? Now I will take that bow. Yay! I actually wrote something for a minute!

By the way, I am going to try and edit and write every day this month. I’ll keep the commitment easy to keep. I’ll let you know when I do. I’m done being down. My has time flown! I did leave a few -ow words out there for others. I didn’t want to be a sow!

Per LindaYour Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “year.” Use it any way you’d like. Enjoy!

This has been quite the year. I always have heard that time passes when you are having fun. I figured when I reached my sixties and (gulp) as of the ninth, seventies, that time would drag. I mean, without the energies of youth, I figured I’d be so bored that time would drag. But it has been the opposite. Since my fifties, time has sped up. So much that it seems a snap of a finger between one year and the next. Heck, why even put the tree away, tomorrow will be Christmas again. But I guess it is the same reason we make our beds every day. Leave the bed undone, and it gets full of itchies and scratchies. Make it, and it welcomes you at night, smooth and cool.

Many don’t put up trees. Especially at my age. Why put it up? Kids are grown, or you never had them, It’s a lot of work. But it signified another year done well. It means warmth at the beginning of winter. Those glowing lights seem to go into my soul and, well, just make me happy.

I have friends and relatives that keep up their trees and just change the decorations according to the seasons and holidays. That sounds like fun. The couple times I’ve tried that I found that I just don’t have enough ornaments for other holidays and I don’t have the money to buy more, even at the dollar store. And last year, I just got tired looking at the trees. I don’t know why. It kind of lost its hope that it had as I decked those halls. And the snow outside was way prettier than my fake trees. This year, no snow. First time for Christmas Valley since we got here. Disappointing! Though the forecast says 40% chance of snow tomorrow. I’m not holding my breath. The cold is here and has been VERY! So maybe the trees will stay, just to keep inside warm and cozy.

How many of you are Sagittarius or Capricorn? When you are young, it seems unfair. Did your brothers have the choice of coat or sweater for a birthday or Christmas? No on their birthdays, there were art kits and scuba gear. That didn’t mean they went without coats and sweaters when it got cold.

Flip that to adulthood, three of my four are Capricorns, born just after Christmas and early in the new year. There was never enough money to have parties or get presents of any worth. But the blessing was that when my kids were young enough to enjoy the crazies of present unwrapping, my mother had a great job and could afford to get them anything in that wishbook that they needed. For their sakes, I was happy I was even glad my mother could finally give what I think she wanted to do for her own offspring.

Now, retired, with a tiny bit of money, I can’t afford to give to anyone. Even those in my house. My saving grace now is that I can make and give things all year long. My offspring are all adults with fairly good incomes, and if there is anything they need, it is within their own reach. And as I get the yarn I need for each person, I can make them something. The rest of the time, I feel I am creating for people who need the comfort items I am working on. So in a way, I feel richer than any other time of my life. As each new piece is made, it gets a home. It is Christmas all year long.

Per Linda:  Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “ingle.” Find a word that contains “ingle” and use it any way you’d like in your post. Have fun!

Remember when it was beginning to look a lot like Winter? Let’s just say we skipped Christmas, New Year’s, Valentine’s Day and went straight for March! The snow melted as if a giant hairdryer as been going for days. That rumbling outside is actually the wind, not Krampus. And that jingling you hear is a witch’s bell on her bicycle!

When Kali goes outside I stay inside. I stand on the warm side of the storm door. That whistling-whooshing makes me expect the biggest monster drooling to eat my poor pup.

Is my house going to leave the isolation of the desert and try to fly to mingle with others in the big cities where it is still Christmas?

I wish I could grab a can of Pringles. This wind makes me nervous! (Yeah, that was a freebie.) I’d have to go out in the bluster and live through it! Besides, the town has already rolled up the carpet and gone to bed. A single can of Pringles, is that too much to ask? Just thinking of shaking that can, gives me a tingle.

Okay, that is as far as my stream takes me. Those who can: Mingle!

Per Linda G. Hill:  Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “loud.” Find any word that means “loud,” and use it any way you’d like in your post. Enjoy!

When I woke up this morning I saw snow. Snow is beautiful. It looks clean. I love it as long as I can stay inside and look outside. AND snow is the opposite of loud. Unless you are looking at the bright sun and all that snow reflects in your eyes. That pain feels LOUD!

If you are older and have arthritis/fibromyalgia or other maladies of the aged, this cold weather hurts. Don’t say no one ever warned you. Ouch! Now that was loud!

According to Linda G. HillYour Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “key.” Use it any way you’d like. Have fun!

The key to a good series is good editing. Hey, that sound professional, right? Yikes, how do you writers do this part? Since I finished writing in November I have chosen to keep at it by editing. I chose to move back into the novel I wrote for CampNaNo (April 2019?) Haven in 3D. It was going quite well. I opened the project in both yWriter and Word and used Grammarly to get me through. I may not have everything in the final order, there may be big plot bunnies running around. But at least it will not have glaring grammar or misspellings. After I correct a scene I copy it from Word and replace the one in yWriter so that it is also corrected.

I got as far as chapter 6. Then I had a mass of questions about past characters and planet issues. Did you hear the screech of the sudden slam on the brakes?

Where did I hide the novel about all of this? The title is Earth the Final Frontier. That project has over 92 thousand words according to the yWriter project and 99 thousand words in the Word version. Why the discrepancy? I haven’t figured that out yet. But I am pleased and proud that I have that many words in one novel anywhere!

So now, shifting gears I am into the first chapter of ETFF. When I get far enough to find said characters and can get back to Haven in 3D I will have rescued the key element.

I have a build-in amount of time I can put into editing. It seems to be four or five hours and then I am spent. I am done with words. I feel like Eliza Doolittle, “Words, words, words! I’m so sick of words!”

So the key to good editing is knitting! Bye! Now, where is that little hook-doohickey?

(You see what I did there? hehe)

Per Linda:

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “ght.” Find a word that contains the letters “ght” in that order, and use it any way you’d like. Bonus points if you use three or more different words containing those letters. Have fun!

Night is the time I get creative. There is no right and wrong of when, where, or how to do NaNoWriMo.  It is a process I have bought into, hook, line, and sinker, except I don’t fish, except for words. I haven’t started writing for today but the latest count is 13,349. Hopefully, by the end of today, I will have at least the requisite  15,003. Try as I might I can’t seem to get into it. For once it is easier to write here on the blog than any other place.

The light is good. Wish it were more bright. No, it is the thought process that is broken. I will need to fight for this day’s words. The biggest fright for me is to get behind in the wordage. Other people seem to do a ton of words and can catch up easily. Not me. I could run a marathon more than makeup words. The height of my days in November is when I post my tally and no I am ahead of the goal. Even better, to be caught up in the blight of my characters’ dilemma and the words don’t quit. The sight of a page filled with story that was fun to write is the best feeling ever!

Okay, time is getting tight.

Happy Nano! Happy Stream of Consciousness Saturday!

Per Linda G. Hill:  Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “nuts.” Use it any way you’d like. Enjoy!

Nuts! I still haven’t reached my writing goal for today. I’m only at 2,345. That’s nuts, the total I mean. What are the odds that a person would have that total? But that is what yWriter is telling me.

I don’t know why I do NaNo every year. That is nuts! I know. But it is my favorite thing to do. Even though I still haven’t one book of the series ready for publication. I like the writing part. I like the story the muses tell me. It is a far better entertainment for my mind than any others out there. Most stories I can predict what is happening, or there is too much angst or romantic silliness, or murder. Most stories center around young people or males who get all the adventures. My stories have more old or diverse characters. They aren’t beautiful people or even skinny minnies. They are just people. Many aren’t even human. And there are the occasional dragons or cats called Hombres that walk upright and can talk, well, they are not really cats, are they?

Many of my stories start with a game of finding random names and characteristics. Then maybe a random word or phrase and off I go. This year started a couple months ago when the word of the day per Dictionary.com was Balter. A writer friend noticed it and said it would be a great NaNo story. I agreed, thinking she wanted to write it. But she backed out. No, I didn’t point a gun to her head! But once I read the definition, to dance or tread clumsily, the name Walter Balter’s Dance Studio came into my mind. Yep, that’s the name of my story!

After a time I got bored with the word and title. I don’t like to write about males. I’m not one and I don’t understand them as well as I feel I might know the female character. And it didn’t sound like it had enough to it to make 50K words. But suddenly the planet Crim came to mind, where Dusty has the Love Lair, a beauty salon/saloon. I think that was the third book I wrote, around 2003 (?). Then the Balter story grew in my mind and even a small outline emerged. I’m not sticking to it but it is there in case I get lost in all the Imagineering.

Okay, putting off the real writing doesn’t make writing happen even if I am over here playing, nor does the story proceed while playing on FaceBook or playing that new wooden puzzle game that is like Tetris but not as stressful. So I must bid you all a good Saturday. Now I will be me again, NUTS!

Per Linda:  Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “dress.” Use it any way you’d like. Have fun!

Dressed with the transparent reflective pearls, our new picture graces our Saturday pages. Only Nature can put on a spread appropriate to every day of the year. She is the dictator of our clothing. This weekend we will be donning bulky sweaters in the day and an extra blanket at night. Dress with less, and you are sure to be nipped by Jack Frost.

Speaking of dressing, our trees are completely naked. Just two short weeks ago, they were full of mostly green leaves. The yellow of Fall came and went within that quick season. And though I love the blue sky of Summer, blue sky Winter is ferocious! Without cloud cover, the temperatures dip to the teens and below. Without rain or snow, the landscape is prickly, yellows, and browns. Our desert doesn’t have cactus or those wonderfully spooky Joshua Trees. We have just a landscape of sagebrush and sky. Both beautiful in all seasons, but at times best seen from the comfort of shelter.

Playing around with words with ‘dress’ I found this humorous and somehow applicable to the subject:  With the addressability of ambassadresses in sweaterdresses, this climate only works for the rich as they can slip into vehicles or homes well heated. Even with the ankles left undressed frostbite won’t attack them due to less exposure than the poorly attired. (Where were Google Words when I played Scrabble?)

Ah, but I bore of the subject of the weather of my address. Ennui, sweats is my dress. Guess I had one more thing to readdress.

According to our fearless leader, Linda G. Hill, here are today’s instructions: Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “-tast-.” Find a word that contains “tast” and use it in your post. Enjoy!

I’m feeling fantastic. What makes me feel this way? What leaves me with such a good taste in my mouth? The feeling of accomplishment. One more sock finished!

I am totally addicted to loom knitting, especially socks. They are so cozy and warm. This pair is going to the charity with the mate once I make it. I’ve been buying some of my own yarn to make my own. These socks feel so much better than store-bought. They are feet-tast-ic! When I finish the second of the pair I will put in the YouTube tutorials for each part of the sock. Meanwhile, I am trying to learn how to make them on needles, too.

How am I going to get to my writing if I can’t stop knitting long enough to NaNo? I barely drop the yarn long enough to write the blog. Anyone else have this problem? Clashing of passions?
