Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “chicken or egg.” Use the “which came first” conundrum in your post, whether about the chicken and the egg or about a real-life situation that fits the question. Or just talk about chickens and eggs! Enjoy!

Found on Facebook just yesterday by our personal astrophysicist, Neil deGrasse Tyson. Like he knew the prompt for SoCS.

There are so many times in life that you wonder what came first the pain or the fear. Sometimes the very thing you fear brings the pain you most dread. Worried about stepping on glass you bump your head. Ya know what I mean? The thing you were alerted to had you blind to something you never thought of.

We’ve just finished bingeing Cesar Milan’s show on Disney. I’m trying to train myself to get ready for my new fur baby when the time comes. Cesar sees many people who have been traumatized by dog bites. And those animals were traumatized by past people. Now the new pet and parent have to overcome their fears and learn to trust each other.

The lesson is to control yourself in the moment. Be present. Trust you’ll know what to do.

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “water.” Use it any way you’d like. Have fun!

My favorite word. Except on long drives is water. I’ve taken more pics of the stuff than anything else while on this adventure.

Tide in. With cranes.
People ferry. And cranes of a different sort.

And then from the ferry to Seattle:

Not just a Grey’s Anatomy prop!

I love when you can taste the water in the air. Sea breeze saltiness. Ummm. Water.

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “sum.” Use the letters “sum” in a word in your post or use the word “sum.” Enjoy!

Summer used to be my favorite season. To sum it up: swimming. I would be in the water 24/7 if I could. From the time of my first lesson, I think I was 11 or 12, I knew my inner spirit was a mermaid.

I challenged myself to swim from one end of the pool to the other in one breath.

Though I took the diving challenges, low board or high, I hated the time it took me out of the water. Although overcoming my fear of heights was tough, once mastered, I gave it up to be in the pool.

In seventh grade I was able to take lifesaving and be a part of a swim team. I didn’t get to finish the course. Nor did I get to continue the competitions. I suffered a severe case of swimmer’s ear that put me to bed the rest of the summer. It wasn’t the earache that caused the most pain. I cried daily for what I was missing. I’ve since learned how to keep my ears dry between swims.

Summer also meant camp and camping. Every year my folks took the family on 3-week vacations. To save money it was always camping. Our favorite system was to go to Sequoia, Yosemite, and Bass Lake. Swimming in the lakes made me happy.

As a teen, Sunshine Superman played as we had many trips to the beach.

I found I loved the beach as much as the pool. Salt water. Sand. Bodysurfing. It became my favorite spot. But laps are too long in the ocean! And swimming under water wasn’t as much fun.

Living in the small community with no pools has been hard. Beaches are too far away. It is Lake County but we’ve yet to see the lakes. And they seem more for fishing than swimming. The one I plan to investigate this summer is actually a reservoir. But we’re told there are leeches. Ugh!

Another sad issue with summer now is the fires. Breathing becomes an issue.

But this summer is starting with the possibility of a really fun road trip. And maybe a swim? Our fears are fires and or snow. I know! But tonight we have to drip. A freeze. June!!!

But I plan on challenging summer this year. Please bring water and fresh air!

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “recipe.” Use it any way you’d like. Enjoy!

There was a me in days of raising for kiddos, that recipes were important. My favorite was No Excuse Bread. I would make it a couple nights a week. Pop up early (another non-Dar thing to do) and bake the loaves. Nothing is yummier than fresh bread with honey!

I can’t find my La Leche League cookbook at the moment but you can find the recipe here. Enjoy!

Our prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is:  What’s that Smell?

We live in the Oregon Outback. When most of us think of Oregon we picture GREEN. We live in the desert. Our green isn’t trees. Rather, mostly sagebrush.

Ooh, the marvelous smell of spring green sage in a breeze. It is only topped by that marvels of the alfalfa fields during watering or cutting. Wow!

If we long for the piney smells a short drive 12 miles can bring us to a campground. A little farther in another direction are the mountains that hold all kinds of wonders.

But here, in this house, we often shout that phrase. “What is that smell?”

To start out I live with three other people. Male adults. None of us are the most organized or extremely hygienic.

Back to the outside. Critters scurry everywhere. Mice are the worst. Our old lady cat no longer finds the chase worthwhile.

There are a couple strays outside. They do help. But they also caught a little rabbit who was playing lawnmower. 😥

Then there are the birds that insist on living in the eaves of our house. We’ve blocked them out. After they move out.

So that smell…

Pass the Lysol, please!

And pity this guy!

Per Linda’s prompt:

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “loan/lone.” Use them any way you’d like. Bonus points if you use both. Have fun!

These two words are weird. Though line has ‘one’ that points to feeling so alone, lonely. One never feels so alone as when they feel the need for a loan.

Unless, that is, if one is standing in line at the library.

Even if alone one can never feel lonely while waiting to borrow a book or ten. A loan with excitement and adventure attached.

By the way, Happy Mother’s Day!

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “note.” Use it any way you’d like. Enjoy!

Let it be noted, that I’m not wanting to write right now. It has been a barometric-changing all day. Windy, rainy, and it’s snowing now.

Yeah. Looks worse than it is. But it is starting to stick.

All of this made my joints hurt and brain foggy.

The foggy brain didn’t think that knitting and tinking alllll day was ergonomically bad. How smart is that?

BUT, I finished the Ukulele strap. So as soon as I finish this note, I’ll pull out the Uke and attach the strap.

Then listen for the chords and strums and licks, and notes.🎶🎵🪈🎸

Linda’s Stream of Consciousness Saturday

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “show.” Use it as a noun or a verb. Have fun!

Plus, I think I am on the letter

#AtoZChallenge 2024 letter X

It seems obvious:

Where’s the show?

X marks the spot.

So, I guess it’s a creek of Consciousness. I should at least show I have a mind to follow.

Still, nothing is coming up.

This xes out the whole process. Sorry. No show today.😥

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is: ends with “grate/great.” Use one or bonus points if you use them both. Enjoy!

Isn’t it weird that the word that starts that whole, deep emotion of grateful has to do with open screen to hold logs for the fireplace or something to grate cheese?

And yet the even larger word makes me think of Tony the Tiger

Not this cutie.

Spelled so differently, meaning thankful or largely wonderful. Words!

The stream goes sideways here.

When my oldest was a toddler, we had to walk up the block to pick up a few groceries. That five minute walk took nearly an hour. Toddlers can be infuriatingly curious.

Anyway, he saw these grates at the bottom of buildings. They looked like windows for small people. He would peek in. Then turn around and tell me about it. It took all my will-power to not roll on the sidewalk laughing. His forehead had the rusty crisscross of the grate from leaning his face on it.

I’m so grateful for this great memory.

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is: ends with “ound.” Find a word (or words) that ends with “ound” and use it any way you’d like. Have fun!

AND

#AtoZChallenge 2024 letter L

Since The month of Flounder that word seems in the front of my brain. It obviously fits both and neither of the prompts. So I’ll continue to flounder about in this stream.

It is a real storm outside thunder and lightning giving us a show. But thunder doesn’t fit the prompts.  I did unplug electronics and between flashes and noise I’m writing this on my phone.

Not my own picture.

The sound of the rain hitting our window ranges from pounding to soothing. I am bound to the view, but soon I’ll be found in bed. You know that time when you round up all the stuff to carry to the bedroom.

But the storm has me all wound up.  So back to watching out the window.
