Oops! Time has snuck up on me and it is nearly midnight, again. I have been so busy starting new projects that I got lost.

Yes, I’m making another pair of sock, but these will be for Hat Huggers, in other words, for charity. Oh, and I worked on my haircut and am feeling itchy so I may have to cut this short. See what I did there?

Per Linda:

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “nail.” Use it as a noun or a verb. Have fun!

Nails, I don’t do them, except keep them clean and not too long. When they get too long they tend to break below the quick and it hurts. On the other hand, giggle, I can’t cut them too short or my fingertips hurt. As a cosmetologist, I used to do my nails all the time. But eventually, I found that the acrylics and even just polish felt heavy on my nails. Weirdly, I feel the same way about hand lotions. Even though I need them more now than ever before, my hands need to get to nearly bloody before I remember to use them. My mother was the same way. What is that? I love a good looking nail and soft beautiful hands.

Oh, no, I just looked at the clock. I have fifteen minutes. So my Stream of Consciousness Saturday is curtailed to a little leak of nonsense. I hope you all had a good Saturday. I think I did. Just so busy I didn’t even notice.

For ten more minutes.

I feel like dancing! Shouting to the rooftops!

I didn’t start out that way this morning. I felt I would never finish the socks and I needed a quick win. So in about an hour, I knitted this little cutie.

Knifty Knitter 24 peg loom. Fold-over brim. Flat knit stitch. Drawstring cast-off. Pom-pom on the smallest pom-pom maker. I think it gave me the juice I needed to finish the socks.

The top pair are for my daughter, the bottom pair are for her boyfriend. Soon to be in the mail to them. Totally made with love. These were made on the KB His (purple) and Hers (orange) sock looms. All four were made toe-up with the Kitchener Cast-on. Flat knit stitch. I varied the cuff in that daughter’s is four-by-four ribbing, and boyfriend’s cuffs are two-by-two ribbing. It was quite a learning experience. I was still feeling the magic as I finished to see that the stripes are so matched that they seem store-bought. I do have enough of this yarn leftover that I can make me a pair, too. But I have other things to finish first.

Much of my time lately is working on a crafty project I hope to give friends. That has me shaky as I have not spent a lot of time, lately, on artsy/craftsy things. But it is fun and I think it will feel more confident as I keep trying. We’ll see.

Meanwhile, I have been experimenting with yarn masks. I have a lighter weight one that I hope to create on that will be comfortable in the summer. I’ve ordered bamboo yarn because it is allergy-free, and has tons of benefits for the wearer.

As a bonus, this was our sunset:

What Day Is It Anyway?

Well, today was exciting. I had contacted our local meteorologist about leaving out our little town, which has its own microclimate. She agreed to include us more and asked for a recent picture of the area.  I sent her this one:

She actually used it today and gave me credit by my written name and she even said it as she offered the hour by hour forecast for us. Well. There are my two seconds of fame. Check.

I wish I could share the craftiness I’ve been up to but I am trying to give my friends some of the fun they have given me in the past and I want it to be a surprise. Needless to say drawing, poetry writing, even in Spanish, Rainbow Loom fun. There is so much more to do and I promise to share when I feel I can. While the gel pens are out I plan to do my coloring.

And I am hoping to finish the boyfriend’s second sock within a couple days.

So soon I will be taking a bunch of stuff to the post office. That should be fun!

On another level, we have the smallest amount of grass growing in front of the house. Mostly our acre is full of sagebrush that has protected our chickens. I’d love to get some of it removed. I can’t, neither can my husband. The younger guys here have issues that keep them from doing it. And we don’t have the money to hire someone so we are stuck with the overrunning sage. I don’t mind the look. Or the smell of sage. But it poses a fire hazard. Still, I ignored the sense of guilt going out into my yard gave me and found myself walking barefoot on the little patches of grass that are freely popping up near our house. My feet were so happy. And the breeze was just right to keep it from being too hot. So I had a moment of heaven.

Yeah, not my foot. My big toe is longer than the second. This was a Pixabay.com. But hopefully, you feel that total comfort of cool grass underfoot. Isn’t it the greatest?

Did I answer, What Day Is It Anyway? No? Well, the trash is at the ‘curb’ That means tomorrow is Friday. And for the next hour and fifteen minutes, it is Thursday. Do I win the prize? No? That’s okay I had a moment of fame!

Half-Birthday Beach Parties Are The Best!

That’s the One-Liner for Wednesday answering the #What Day Is It Anyway? question. Except the Half-birthday was two days ago. So here’s how it happened:

My friend sent out little boxes to those who attended. And she sent the Zoom address to get us to the party.

The box:

An alligator squirt gun, a shell-shaped soap, a Booktastic trivia card, a baggie of wipers, a postcard from the beach, and a beach ball. I immediately blew up the ball.

Sorry for the quality it is a picture of a picture, and so on, and so on.

So despite the lock-down, lack of money, Weather that tries not to look like June, my Half-Birthday Virtual Zooming  Beach Party was a success! I have fun friends!

I have to admit that most of the day I felt like it was Saturday again. And the computer acted up. Am I the only one that keeps multiple windows open with lots of tabs on each window? I have one for YouTube tutorials and patterns, one of social-media like Facebook and Tumblr and Twitter, and one with email and blogs. So all that disappeared and I had to reset it all up.

That done it was time to edit more of last month’s book.

Then I wrote for the prompt for Writer’s Group. I do like meeting with the group and seeing how they are doing and what they come up with on the prompts. Oh, and that means it was actually Monday! Ha! I do know!

Do those of you that do Duolingo find there are days you do the bare minimum and other days you can’t get enough? Tonight I read a lot of the stories. I’m back to playing with Japanese, French, Esperanto, and still working with Spanish and German.

Oops, I still didn’t write my review. I don’t know if I have the chops for it tonight. I’d rather knit a while before bed. Tomorrow.

Hours and hours ago I remember watching CBS Sunday Morning after lunch. It was one of those no sleeping nights so it was a late wake-up. And a day with a nice nap.

It was cold last night. We had to drip the faucets to keep them from freezing. Tonight the same. I’d believe it was mid-winter. Especially as the hail chose to fall at about the same time as yesterday’s noisy downfall. The wind had been horrid for days. Okay. I guess I am complaining. Sorry. I just hate using the heater and wearing socks when the calendar says June.

On the other hand, It is barely dark at 10:30. Here’s are a couple of pictures of how light it was at 9PM:

The pictures are very blurry because I had to stand out in the cold to snap these. But you get the idea. The sun didn’t set for another half hour! I guess I am surprised. This is the furthest north I have lived and some things still catch me off-guard.

I remember nearly two decades ago my husband, still, a boyfriend and I took a cruise to Alaska in June. It was cool that it was still daylight at midnight. Darkness didn’t stay past 3AM. Here I get up at 4:30 and I can see my way to the bathroom without feeling my way there or even a lit cell-phone. So here Summer is screaming that she wants to stay up late. But Winter is freezing us out for those hours. My bare feet are crying inside socks. Nice socks, I made myself. But socks!

Okay, there’s the day and time covered with lots of griping in-between. On the plus side, the stomach problems from a couple days ago? Turned out to be just normal stomach problems. The lack of sleep last night wasn’t COVID19 related. It would have happened any time before. I finished Outlander Book 7 and downloaded Book 8 (review coming soon). I also tried to download a library audiobook of the Stand but for some reason, my Fire and the old tablet didn’t do well. And who knew that if you are listening to a book while playing games can be dangerous? At every level a new commercial would come on, interrupting the story and nearly blowing out my eardrums. Sorry. Another gripe. Needless to say, I won’t be playing those games while listening. So even while claiming the good I still found a way to find the bad. The take away here, Lack of sleep was just lack of sleep.

Let the Fanfare Begin

Do you remember when you were young and someone asked you how old you were? And you’d square your shoulders and tell them your age plus a half or three quarters or even larger fraction according to how much math had been imparted to your brain. Then somewhere mid-thirties or forties that all started changing. I, for one, reversed the numbers to reflect a smaller number. 41 became 14, 52 became 25. At one point that became useless. Face it. When that happens you have reached maturity. Scratch that, You’re old. Fantastic. I was hiding from my actual age the whole time I’ve been alive. Never happy with the moment wanting to be older or younger. I would have loved to be 33 forever. Mature enough to make my own decisions and young enough to do everything I ever wanted to do. At that age, I could even play in the park without feeling silly as my kids needed the accompanying adult on the slide and the swings. Then I could enjoy a drink and pretend to be a full adult.

Pixabay.com

Well, here I am at 07 and thinking maybe I should be the fan of the half or three-quarter again. Maybe if the world didn’t have a pandemic and other apocalyptic things like murder wasps, I wouldn’t embrace this. But for those of us with birthdays in December, which has never been a great month for those who were born under its cold, crazy, Christmasy times, the fact may be that many of us might not be here for our birthdays. If and when we do, all the better to show we fancy every moment of life.

So today I attended a half birthday Zoom party. There were elements of fantasy as this was with a cosplay bunch of friends. I could have sworn one of the ladies had elf ears. Anyway, I thought this idea was fun and look forward to my half birthday in a few days. We have life. Let’s celebrate it. even if only on Zoom with friends and family. It may be we are closer to loved ones now than ever before as we need to keep in touch often. Wouldn’t it be great if we could measure our lives in Love? Is Rent playing in my head again? Let me share the earworm. (One of my favorite songs of all time!)

Each second should have always been this precious. We should have never put aside our elders, how quickly we become one! As we try to save lives let’s make sure to pull it in and let it sit with us. Before COVID19 a car accident or cancer could rob us of a loved one but it was so seldom that we didn’t bring it in until it was too late. We’ve been given a bit of a gift to look at saving and loving our lives and loving the lives of others.

Half-Birthday? I’m a fan. I might even enjoy a three-quarter Birthday! Hey, remember being a newlywed? We got so sappy! Two-week anniversaries were fun! Let’s get back to that kind of excitement. Life is a gift. We can still be careful and distance and hand-wash, AND love life!

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “fan.” Use it by itself or find a word that starts or ends with it. Use it any way you’d like. Enjoy!

I love Fridays. That my Zoom with Friends day. It would be more fun if we could get together but we are all of the age that COVID19 loves the most. So we play or complain or just love each other the best we can with the face-to-face connection. Look if we didn’t get to your top issues and solve them, then nobody can! Now if only we could figure out how to get a good night’s sleep, we would win all the awards out there!

Ending the day with another beautiful sunset:

Now it is fifteen minutes until Saturday. My brain is done trying to figure out What Day Is It Anyway. Besides, it’s night. That ventures into What Time Is It Anyway, and we know that is a horse of a different color!

I have been looking for a loom knitting pattern for a yarn mask. I know it isn’t PPE. It is something that I can wear with kleenex, paper towels, or coffee filters to catch my own airborne germs. So I followed Cassie’s Fun Creations on YouTube.

This was my first and then my hands made two more after. Each time I learned a little more.

I had so many things I was going to do today. But darn that yarn and the loom ganged up on me!

Looking at the picture, I am missing my reddish blondish hair. I may have to order a box of I bet I could mix just half and have enough for this short hair. I’m only trying to fool my eyes into thinking I have more energy than the natural mousey gray.

For the record, and not to complain, my son was icky yesterday, hubby today and now my tummy is not happy. We haven’t eaten the same things so I’m thinking an intestinal flu? I took Pepto and it helped a little. I know it isn’t a symptom of the COVID19. Besides I still have no fever. I did take a long nap. I feel I could sleep more. The guys didn’t feel the need to have a bucket nearby. All of our allergies are going absolutely crazy. I think the wind from last week stirred a lot of dust and pollen up. All the more reason for my masks with filters.

Okay, that’s all I have the energy for, Carry on.

Yay! I finished sock #1 for my daughter’s boyfriend.

Now I just need to finish the ribbing on sock #2. It is the slowest part of the sock for me but I am learning to relax and let it help bring me peace in these ugly times.

Meanwhile, we got caught up in Tales from the Loop on Amazon. It is interesting.

It has some sad parts but it is a show to make you think. That is a nice change!

What are you watching? What are your accomplishments for the day?
