Another quick one. I think it is Thursday but the heat and tooth have me wondering. I am on an antibiotic and the pain killer. I am feeling better but still not quite energetic enough to care. The joyful spot is I have a friend visiting today. 6′ and masks. No hugging. But lots of fun and chatting that help me forget the bad and the day.
I promise by the weekend I will catch up on as many blogs as I can.
Thank you! My husband just had an appointment on Monday so 4 hours of driving. This morning he’s driving 3 to get my antibiotic and painkiller. What a guy!. The dentist is sure that the pain is due to infection. He can’t even pull the tooth until the infection heals. My temp is usually low. 96-97. But yesterday it was up to 99.1. How much was tooth and how much this bloody heat, I’m not sure. I hope it’s better tomorrow. My friend is coming to visit. She’s bringing a pup tent so she can maintain distance. We’ll all wear masks for a couple of days.
One-liner Wednesday is brought to us by Linda G. Hill. It is an easy fun prompt to get us all writing, even if just a line.
I love Lisa See’s work. Her research is obvious and the story draws me in. And makes me want to know more about the Sea Women of the Korean island of Jeju.
This is another hot day, so I will keep this short so as to get off the heat-creating computer. Which brings me to remember my favorite aspect of the book, water, and swimming. The descriptions of the cold sea and the beauty of the underwater life cooled me off and distracted me from the other aspects of today’s life.
Jennifer Lim’s narration kept the characters individualized and interesting.
Maybe a warning is needed for the angst and sadness this book brings. It was wartime and the poverty and pain are there. But it seems truthful and helps us see how others have lived.
The research of the Sea Women draws me. And the heat imposes. I hope you get the chance to read this book.
Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “link.” Use it as a noun or a verb; use it any way you’d like. Enjoy!
It is hot here. I don’t want to turn on the laptop and heat the room further. But the hardest part of posting from my phone is keeping the links right. Hopefully, credit goes where it is due.
Weird that the prompt is a word I’ve used often this past week as I sang the praises of the Flexee Loom. Still loving it as I work hat number three.
As I close this cellphone quickie, I plan to do my Duolingo. And the word for ‘left ‘ in German is ‘links’
Though I lost the day and forgot what day it was many times today, I am happy to report that Trash Day and Friendship Zoom Day brought me back. I was beginning to wonder as the garbage truck usually gets here before eleven. And since we lost track of days last week there were a lot of bags out there. Thank goodness it was just later than usual.
Okay, good. It is Friday.
Zooming with friends is the best, isn’t it? I think we laughed so much that we made up for all the horrid stuff going on lately. Hours and hours! And near the end, a bright surprise. My son called.
Don’t you love talking to offspring that are grown up and make you so proud to know them? Well, I do.
So that answers the question, What Day Is It Anyway? But who can tell? Just about the time you think you know it isn’t what you thought. #WDIIA
Hot off the Flexee Loom another hat! This one fits me. So… This is my yarn. Ah, but now that I know how to do the decrease, I look forward to making many more of these.
So the stats are 80 pegs of the Flexee Loom. Set up in alternate colors so as to do the two-by-two ribbing. And as I said with the smaller hat, working the purls was faster and easier than with any other loom. The loom is so lightweight and yet tough enough to deal with me and my fussings. The rest is a flat-knit stitch. until the crown. This one I made sure there were 7 inches of the hat before the beginning of the decreases. I worked the set of decreases three times. After the first set, I moved the loops so as to expose and remove every other link. Another set of the decreases and then again remove every other link. Then I removed the last loops as Kristen of GoodKnitKisses suggests in her YouTube Tutorial.
Other than knitting like crazy, we have been watching as much as we can of Disney+ while we have it. So I chose Frozen II,
the guys wanted UP (Isn’t it the sweetest show?)
and then my son chose Clone Wars. It is fun to go through the Star Wars things as his memories of all the toys forty years ago that appear in Mandalorian and Clone Wars.
We had some fun discussions of those days and his perceptions compared to mine as Mom. By the way, Ahsoka Tano makes it worthwhile. She and her friends finally helped me into that world.
How are all of you? How are you maintaining your sanity?
Nothing good can happen until you get through the wrapper. At least Wednesday has that one-liner ease to get you over the hump. But Tuesday makes you work at it!
Still, we managed. I started watching season three of Outlander.
Until the male grumblings around me. So I decided to get us all watching Mandalorian. I have to admit to being bored most of the time. I like the Star part of this series. I hate the War part. And this was 99% male. Ugh! Mid-series, they added a woman and a girl and a few more females. But I was so not into it by then. I am happy to see Bryce is one of the directors and her episode was great. But not worth keeping Disney Plus.
I guess I need to take the stab at reviewing the only reason we decided to try. Hamilton. Sorry, everyone who loved this. To me, the most boring musical ever written. I just quit halfway through. It did seem the same ennui I felt trying to read the biography. Bloviating males. very few females. Disney knows nothing, John Snow knew more!
Please don’t write to me about how wrong you think I am. I’m being honest. I did my best to like these two shows but I found myself getting up and washing dishes or taking a walk outside. I want depth and I want to have my imagination working with the show. Outlander, even on my third watching of the Netflix three seasons still holds my imagination. My what-ifs keep going long after the show. How would I write it? How did the author decide to do that? What if the director had filmed it this way? And the music flows with me long after I turn it off.
Meanwhile, hat number two is nearly halfway done.
So that was Tuesday, answering the ‘What Day Is It Anyway?’ question. #WDIIA
