I thought, ‘What a waste of our forests.’ I didn’t realize what we lost as we went paperless. I’ve yet to subscribe to newspapers and magazines online. They are much harder to read and enjoy in that form. I miss newspaper, magazine, and book smells. And I HATE all the ads!

And as much as I asked for paperless bills, there are still enough envelopes to keep lists of groceries or random notes scattered next to me every chair.
When everything came in the mail I had files to keep things organized. My eyes didn’t like reading things online. Even my thousands of Kindle books are difficult. Thank goodness for text-to-speech and Audiobooks.
I really want to save the trees. But a journal calls to my pen and artsy self.

Still, you won’t see me doing NaNoWriMo by hand. The yes are safe with that pursuit. Unless I ever reach a publisher desk!

Meanwhile, can you do this with your electrical device?

I sound old fashioned. I used to love the new-fangled electronics. We started with a Commodore 64. Way back! I love all the apps and games we’ve experienced since. Just can’t sit with them 24/7. I learned to play Sudoku from some. But suddenly I’m apologizing to the trees. I love working the puzzles on paper books.
I hope there’s a way to work these things out that are pro-environment and easy on eye and arthritic hands.

For me I love that I can read audio books and text to speech, being blind, I rely on them, to be able to read, and, I love reading so I’d be so sad if paper books were the only option!
I totally agree. I’m not blind but I rely heavily on Audible and text-to-speech. By the way, how do you navigate websites and chats? I’m torn with missing the experience, senses of smell and touching cool rough paper and enlarging font and stories not just read but acted out for me. I’m still addicted to reading but my eyes don’t cooperate. Thankfully my ears and imagination satisfy that need. With 6 bookshelves full of books I haven’t read I feel like the nearsighted character of an episode of the Twilight Zone. Finally a library, quiet, and broken glasses.
I agree it’s sensible and kind to nature to be paperless but Oh! Something is missing. 💜💜🌅
I think earlier version of Windows made organization easier and fonts and website easier on the eyes. And we’ve watched as one by one great sites became expensive in money or ads and far less educational quality. Duolingo comes to mind here.😥
nothing nowadays seems to get cheaper or simpler to use 💜💜
💜🤗😥
I read almost entirely via Audible books, as well. Recently, though, several friends have written books that aren’t available in an audible version and I’ve sort of enjoyed reading a real book again. My eyes couldn’t take reading as many as I listen to, however. I save my eyesight for blogs and an occasional movie… and those damn impossible-to-make-yourself-leave strings of videos of dogs, kittens and babies!!!
I have a hard time with most blogs and so much of Facebook. The most time I spend is on GoodReads where I write my reviews. Audible has many more layers than a book. Actors doing characters, narrators who can pronounce words in other languages or that I never could pronounce properly. I do like having the Kindle version to whisper sync for when I lose my place. Don’t you hate when you get distracted or fall asleep during the story? Still, the back button can help me find my way back where my brain left off.
I do this constantly. I’m sure there are whole sections of books that I miss out on because of not backtracking far enough. I think they need a function that automatically asks you if you are listening and if you don’t answer, turns the story off every 15 minutes or whatever amount of time you select.
Not a bad idea! 🤗
Did you draw the sketch of you riding a paper swan??? It is adorable.
No, I use Bitmoji characters. They are fun to create and one of the few things still free. I change my emoji when I change my hair style or when I feel I’ve changed somehow. I think the site is Bitmoji.com. I have the app on my phone but you can do it on the computer, too. If you choose one let me know. I like them far more than the ones on Facebook.
I hear you 🤗 same here
It’s always a dilemma. Washing recyclable materials uses water, which is a precious resource, for example. All we can do is be aware and try our best. But I agree; it’s hard to read newspapers etc. online. I miss magazines… the library has them as ‘ebooks’ but it’s just a pain for me to pick up my tablet for that experience.
Exactly! 🤗
