And Done!

ย

This one took a bit of time. It was made on the KB, orange, 80 pegs, small-gauge, round loom. One-by-one ribbing and four knit, four purl, four rows. then the next four rows opposite.ย  The crown flat-knit stitch. I love this soft yarn. I bought this for a Christmas gift. Red Heart Soft 4oz. Jeweltone. I have enough left over to make another hat, I think. I may just make one for me–or another friend.

Just Jot January — Pubish

Per Linda:ย  Your prompt for JusJoJan January 14th,ย 2020, is โ€œpublish.โ€ Use the word โ€œpublishโ€ any way youโ€™d like. Enjoy! The promptee is Ritu. Thank you, Ritu! You can find her Just Jot it January post here.

I only have ten minutes until midnight. But the prompt evokes so many emotions that all I can say is:

I need to edit so I can get published. Thanks for the reminder!

Per Linda G. Hill:

ย  ย  ย  ย Your prompt for JusJoJan January 13th, 2020,ย is โ€œsubscribe.โ€ Use the word โ€œsubscribeโ€ any way youโ€™d like. Have fun!

Willow had some good points on her blog about a point of view she doesn’t subscribe to. I have to admit to agreeing with her. I don’t subscribe to the philosophy that people deserve their life conditions. I think it is a way to ignore issues we feel helpless to deal with. Do you think that the rich man deserves his wealth? Do you think the people in cold, homeless conditions deserve theirs? Many say a person lost their fight with cancer or other deadly diseases. These put the onus on the victims. Christians are often the worst at that kind of thinking. I guess that book in the Bible about Job has been ignored lately. Did he deserve all the horrid things that happened to him? Did Christ ignore those in need or sick or young or old? I like to remind myself that, okay maybe a bad decision or two put some people into positions of need, but not always. And who are we to judge them? I don’t remember God/dess handing us deity positions. Have we not made some mistakes in our lives? Our job is to be the heart, soul, arms, and legs for Him/Her. To be understanding and loving to those in need is what we are assigned. A big word I think about is Grace. It doesn’t go to the deserving, It is there. Just there.

This is not to say that people who work hard and attain a certain amount of achievement shouldn’t have it. But rather, how much heart were you able to keep while getting there? Others, if you walked in their shoes, could have worked even harder than that rich person but never attain that monetary fulfillment. They may have given their very last meal of Ramen to help someone. Who is the wealthier now?

The person who survives a deadly disease may have taken the steps to stay as healthy as they could in their position but another may have done all the right things but the disease hits them harder. It is not how hard or smart a person works in the end.ย  It just is!

That is not to say we don’t do all we can to stay healthy and help our own situations. It isn’t even to not try and manifest our best lives. I do believe we can work toward goals and dreams. I do believe that a healthy attitude can take us a long way. But let’s not lord it over those who didn’t attain or survive. We do the best we can. Faith, hope and love.

I subscribe to LOVE. And yes it hurts sometimes. Some might take advantage. Some might not get what we try and reach. But our jobs are being LOVE.

Stepping off the soapbox. I just needed to get that out there. I hear so much negativity lately. People wonder where manners have gone but talk of bootstraps and cages for the illegals. Holding up a mirror. Job didn’t deserve boils and to lose all his money. People deserve love and help from people. Not a manners issue. A love issue!

This was the nearest book as we still have Christmas happening in our Christmas Valley home. I misread the instructions. I thought I was to use the first three words in the first full sentence. So there’s that. Here’s the first real page:

The first three words sang to me from this book I’ve yet to read: On the tenth of … the next… December didn’t fit in the rules but called to me as it is the day after my birthday. The tenth is a day late but usually, especially for Sagittarius beings, part of the month of birthday/Christmas a confusion of winter wear and honest attempts to make it special. But somehow, I feel it special now without any presents. Can anyone believe when they are seventy? But I still do the snow dance and get happy over certain songs.

That was a sidetrack. I think I meant to go through how Christmas is still here. AND how I still haven’t read this book. I pack it away with the Christmas decor. I do love Cornelia Funke books. And aren’t those pictures cute?

I know this is supposed to be a stream but I feel that was the Jot needed to suffice. Knitting and binging Gilmore Girls (were mid-fifth season) are distracting the writer in me. I hope you all are having a great weekend! By the way, another snow is expected tonight so the little bit leftover is going to get some friends.

And here were the instructions per Linda that I obviously didn’t read close enough:

Your prompt for #JusJoJan and Stream of Consciousness Saturday is: โ€œthe first 3 words of the first full sentence.โ€ Okay, follow me here. This is what I want you to do: 1. Grab the closest book to you when you sit down to write your post. 2. Open it to a random page. 3. Locate the first complete sentence on that page. 4. Use the first three words of that sentence to start your post, then take it from thereโ€“write whatever comes to mind. Thatโ€™s it! Have fun!

Just Jot It January — Scrumptious

In answer to the crossed fingers:

Look at that scrumptious white stuff!

You can even see it between the trees that are still up:

I hear there are days ahead full of snow. Let’s hope so!

JuJoJan / 1LinerWed — Happiness

Happiness is January Snow!

This one-liner has changed several times today. Happiness is a warm puppy was taken. Well done, Winston! So Kali wouldn’t stand in his shadow. But it was snowing around noon. Even stayed on the ground. Now it is muddy. The trees are budding out thinking this is Spring. Someone isn’t doing the snow dance. You know who you are! I’m told that after nine tonight we might get that white stuff that hides the ugly weeds that didn’t go away. So I’ll stay with the above bold line and claim it!

Just Jot It January — Mix

Per Linda:ย  Your prompt for JusJoJan January 7th,ย 2020,ย is โ€œmix.โ€ Use the word โ€œmixโ€ any way youโ€™d like. Enjoy!

ย

Yes, knitting is my life. Sorry. I looked all over the Pixabay for a good picture to inspire me to write about the prompt, mix. This sock is what came to mind. And it is for my daughter who is celebrating her birthday. Wow, my offspring are getting old! I’m almost to the heel stage. I do love this magical self-striping yarn. It really mixes it up, don’t you think?

I’m just streaming even though it is not Saturday.

Hey, how many of you are food purists? What I mean is when you get a plate of food do you mix all your food together or try very hard to keep it all separated? I tend to be a purist. All my life. I remember when I was a candy striper and I had this nice guy I took care of. He was a paraplegic. He could paint with the brush between his teeth. He was amazing. When it came time for me to feed him I was shocked.

“Mix it all up!” he said to me with passion.

I was repulsed. I mixed a little together for each bite but he nearly yelled at me. He was happy when I was more violent with my mixing. Now I remember his name, Frank. He was the bright spot of my candy striping days.

One day, I walked into his ward and saw his room empty. I asked, “Where’s Frank?” I was ready to take him on his daily walk.

“We’re sorry…”

“He went home?” I asked in the naive sixteen-year-old voice.

The nurse shook her head sadly and told me he died. He was the first person I had lost to death. Now that I am 70 I think I know more people gone than here. That death made me see I wouldn’t be able to handle being a nurse or doctor. I wish I would have had this philosophy back then. I think that medicine would have been in my future.

Aw, but all that standing! Never mind. Pipe-dreams. They do tend to send my head into a big mixed-up mess.

Back to the question: Are you a purist or mixer?

Made it Monday

Well, I picked up this cute little loom on Wish. It was cheap so I thought it would be fun to try. That and it was cheap!

Cute, huh? I put it on the keyboard so that you could see how small it is. There was a learning curve. I may have ripped out one nearly whole sock and reknitted, then frogged again. Ugh! I don’t blame the cute little loom. I blame the soft wonderful yarn that separated sometimes and caused little fuzzballs.

Then the worst thing! Right at the toe of the second sock, I ran out of the gray yarn. Ugh, again! But I found this red homespun type yarn that was as soft as the gray yarn. I couldn’t find anything that l matched so I figured a contrast might pull it off. The gray was yarn from my daughter and the socks are for my son. I think he likes them. And they fit!

If he were a little kid that red toe could differentiate right and left foot. But a grown man in his forties. I’ve got nothing. He said thank you. I shouldn’t have. “Mom, you already made me a hat.” I hope he likes them. He did like the first one and said it was soft and would be nice to wear in the evening while watching TV. So he’ll be comfortable and no one will see the red toe and make fun of him. It’s a possibility. Hey, look at that! I was able to use the prompt for Just Jot It January! Oh, and he did take them with a smile. There’s that!

Per Linda:ย  Your prompt for #JusJoJan and Stream of Consciousness Saturday is: โ€œow.โ€ Find a word that contains โ€œowโ€ or use it as a word in your post. Have fun!

Wow! Well, quite the difference from Linda’s SoCS, with all the pretty snow pictures. She says Christmas hasn’t been white most of the time since she moved to her home. We’ve been here in Christmas Valley four years and except for this year, it has snowed for a lot of the Halloweens, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. This year it looks like April. We even have some grass. Yes, we had a dusting last night but I didn’t see much of that, night owl that I am, it was melted away by the time I got up. April snow! Except the day isn’t as long as it should be.

The thing is most of my growing up time, I lived in Sunny Southern California. If we wanted snow we would drive up to Big Bear and see it and come home to get warm. I didn’t understand the Christmas cards and the wintery wonderland stuff. Give me a good beach and I’m happy.

Reno was nice. but it was big-city snow. Dirty icky snow. Chrismas Valley lived up to its name every year. Beautiful snow with perfect timing. Well, my husband may not think the snow was perfect when he broke his shoulder walking down our driveway a couple years ago. But it was the layers of pretty over icy. Deceiving snow. It looks soft like things look when I don’t have on my glasses, but it was mean snow. OW!

Do you all still have your trees up? We do. It had snowed a little before we erected our little forest of three trees. I refuse to take it down until there is real winter going on here! I will try to take a picture through the window if it happens. What if there will be no more snow? What if this is the opposite of the Starks? Spring is coming. And it will last years and all we will have is Spring and Summer for the rest of our lives. If I only had a pool, that would be okay, I think. Oh, and we need to get rid of the summer fires. Sorry, Australia. Ours wasn’t as bad. But it does seem to be pointing to global warming. Now I’m sadder, madder and scared. Scowl, frown, twitching brows. GROWL!

So Weather Underground says we may have snow next Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Let’s grab that piece of hope, okay? Now I will take that bow. Yay! I actually wrote something for a minute!

By the way, I am going to try and edit and write every day this month. I’ll keep the commitment easy to keep. I’ll let you know when I do. I’m done being down. My has time flown! I did leave a few -ow words out there for others. I didn’t want to be a sow!

Happy Birthday, Number One Son

So I knew the birthday was coming. But I only started making his hat yesterday morning. It turned out cool, and very warm.

The brim was a fold-over so double warmth. It was a mix of wool and I think the Homespun. It was all flat-knit stitch. BUT the green (32 pegs) Knifty Knitter is too small for a lot of adults. It was tight on me and fit like a little clown hat on my son’s head.

So I started again with the bigger loom (yellow-41 peg).

In a way, I like this one better. It is reversible. The only difference between the sides is one brim is e-wrapped. the other side is purled. Then folded up. The rest of the hat is a garter stitch until the crown. Then one-row u-stitch and the last flat wrapped. The garter stitch makes the head part very stretchy. It seems to fit my son better with the purl side inside. It’s been a long time since I made anything in a day. I prefer the fine-gauge looms which take longer but make a nicer fabric. I think he liked his hat.

Then with the same colors, I decided to try to make socks. Not sure they are going to be big-wide-enough. But if so they will go to my charity, Hat Huggers. This is with the donated yarn, as were the hats for my son. But the nice part is that I will claim it and make something from my own yarns to make up for it. My color yarns were too girly for an adult male. Anyway, when the socks are done I will share the results.

I want to make a proclamation. No more birthdays any time near or after Christmas. Or at the end of a month (paycheck)! I know it won’t change anything but maybe the universe is listening? That is not to say, Universe, that I don’t want the people attached to these birthdays, rather, maybe we can change when we celebrate? At least, should I get the chance for a do-over, I might do a better job of planning. I know… Keep wishing! Happy birthday, son.
