Mud <– Karma for A-Z

Looking at Linda G. Hill’s page today and the weather they are experiencing there, made me wonder if all this mud is Karma! We have had non-stop wind, rain, snow and the resulting mud between storms. Luckily, we live in a desert so much is just wet sand. It doesn’t get sloggy or mushy. It is easy to get around in regular shoes if you avoid the puddled mud. But with the weather changing day by day and not letting Spring take effect, I’m beginning to believe it may be Karma.

I didn’t get started on time for the official A-Z Challenge. So I just am playing along illegally. I think you can Google it to find the actual web URL of the person who starts it so–

Here’s MUD in your eye, Karma!

Lousy Illegal “L”

After my lousy poem yesterday to catch up with the illegal alphabet blogging, and lousy weather and lousy lazying around NOT walking, I have very little to say.

I have been editing my first book. Until I reached a horrid sentence and can’t seem to find a creative way around it. So instead of showing you what it is, I will sneak in this tidbit: I’m editing my first book!

I wrote Haven in the March following 9/11. Actually, I made it a NaNoWriMo as I started on the Ides of March and finished on the Ides of April. Except I didn’t finish it until November the same yearย  (2002) as there was a move involved and a lot of stressy things going on.

Haven started as I was riding the train on my daily commuteย to Irvine. During that time there were a lot of times the train wouldn’t continue on to LA. for fear of terrorists, etc. I sat there and wished, “If only there were a planet…” and that wish was strong enough to pull out my Palm Pilot and portable keyboard and started writing.

I have been told there is not enough tension in this book. But taking that wish, I was avoiding tension. These days I seek less tension as it seems everyone wants to blame each other, argue or hate each other. I think it is nearly worse than the atmosphere of 9/11. That was why I finally pulled it out and started working on it again. Then that lousy sentence! But editing is what I’ve chosen to do for CampNaNo. So…

If anyone is curious you can find the first 8 chapters here. I hope it isn’t Lousy.

For the last couple days the wind was so strong you could be sand-blasted out there. A few minutes ago I saw no farther than the end of the driveway. By the time I got my cell phone ready it had calmed down to this:

This poor Southern California-born gal hasn’t been able to take walks for a couple days and it may be a few more before this blows over. Kali is very sad! Me, too!

ALRIGHT APRIL I’ll join in the fun

BeCAUSE it is nearly DONE

EVEN ifย  a FELONY GAIN

HAVE I been JAILED in vain?

KEEPING Linda G. Hill company in the cell?

Worth it! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Okay, it’s corny and silly but so am I!

What did you or did not like about the first place you lived without your parents?

Really? Everything! I lived in a small town four hours from my parents. Yes, I shared it with my husband, but I felt so grown up. It was a big apartment. Two bedrooms. Huge living room. Open kitchen so that I could be a part of things while cooking or washing up. Oh, there may be my negatives. That husband thought in very ancient terms. But the place was beautiful and modern. Not something I love now, but then it spelled freedom and maturity! Oh, yeah, in your twenties a tiny town with only one blinking stoplight and nothing for youth to do, was BORING. But we learned to be adventurers. We drove to nearby towns. Or that four hours to see all the family and friends left behind. Then SO happy to be back in my own apartment.

What is your most favorite smell/scent?

Ocean. Oh if that could be bottled! The second best is forest, camping, campfire smells. Near the ocean–Heaven!

Would you prefer snowy winters, or not, and why?

Since we are retired, the snow is beautiful outside. Sometimes we take walks in it. I have to admit to loving watching the snow and seeing the scenery clean and fresh with white linen. In fact, around here, if there isn’t snow it is SO much colder. Like minus numbers colder. Without the snow, that is just misery!

What did you appreciate or what made you smile this past week? ย Feel free to use a quote, a photo, a story, or even a combination.

What I appreciate is having my license back. Not having the funds to get it renewed at the right time was devastating! But due to unfortunate events, I now have a truck and a license which I intend to relish and show gratitude in huge amounts. After all, who knows how much longer I will be able to drive? My grandfatherย made it into his 80’s I think, but others in my family didn’t make it that long. Now to find the funds to do some awesome road trips!

As usual, thank you, Cee, for Share Your World. A chance to look at life and share with others.

ย Not much of a brain to stream right now. The not my doors were these:

ย Now I am a licensed driver again. But too tired to care. I’ll try to write more later. There will be a rant. But not much of one. There will be a few book reviews coming soon.

Anyone else binging TWD? Yeah, if it wasn’t for that I would be asleep. This weather is messing with me. In one day we had all four seasons!

TTYL!

Are you a practical jokester?

No. I don’t like the kind of humor that makes another person look stupid. It is why I gave up watching Ellen. For the most part,ย I love her, but watching her terrify her guests or do tricks on them didn’t do anything for me.

Who cuts your hair?ย  You, a friend, or professional.

I do. I never like how the beauticians do it. I was a cosmetologist in my twenties. I quit because standing in one spot hurt my back and legs horribly. I still love cutting and coloring my own hair. I just wish I could take off my head and sit with it and fix it all up like we could the Gloria-heads we learned on so long ago. But if there are mistakes, heck, it grows and I can fix it later. I don’t have to look at it.

Ah, the memoriesย flood my head and nose of the days working with this lady! I miss her!

By the way, here is what I use now as it is quicker and cleaner than scissors:

Did you have a stuffed animal when you were a kid, if so what kind?

Well, I had a bed full that looked something like this:

But my favorite looked something like this guy the last I remember of him:

Many things make me smile in a week and I appreciate so much. Why do I never write them down so when confronted with this question I have a ready answer?

I loved the snow we got last night. There are still patches tonight. I got to show my California son his new normal as it fell last night. Speaking of which, it is starting to look like I have a living room again. They aren’t finished with the move but it’s settling. Wish the living room were warmer so I could stay in there and work more. But summer is coming regardless of what the Starks say!

Thank you, Cee, for the inspiration and memories!

When enjoying the craft group shortens the walk. (Too much fun and warm weather–but met a cute new puppy on the street.)

She looked like this. Kali hated her but I wanted to keep her. She followed us home but left after we went into the house to crash.

And finishing this cute little guy:

Life is good.

What would be your ideal fantasy way to spend Monday?

With all that has been going on with moving in my son, today we took the dog for a walk. It was fun to chat and stroll. Perfect Monday.

What one person that you are out of contact with would you like to say thank you to?

My grandmothers and aunts. Every one of them gave me gifts to be grateful for. My maternal grandmother was a spitfire a tiny giant. My paternal grandmother (who I think I look like most) a warm hospitable woman with a sense of humor that lasted far past her Alzheimer’s. My maternal aunts who taught me to knit, crochet, sew, and to want and love children. I think of them every day! My paternal aunts, one inspired my desire to learn German and encouraged me in ways I didn’t even realize until I got older. Another of my paternal aunts feels near all the time. Her sense of humor, like her mother’s and love that just never ended. Her daughter shines the same love.

There are so many other aunts and ALL my wonderful cousins–What you wanted ONE person? Can’t narrow it down!

Oh, and we haven’t started on friends… If this wasn’t so public I would mention each and every one. I love you all!

List your favorite toys or games as a kid?

Swimming pool. Does that count? Okay, pogo-stick, jacks, twirling on the bars at school, swinging, oh how I miss swinging. Hula hoop, biking, wiggle-waggle board, BOOKS,oh, and swimming. Other things I loved are pictured above.

What did you appreciate or what made you smile this past week? ย Feel free to use a quote, a photo, a story, or even a combination.ย

Going through all the pictures of the games and toys made me smile. Thinking of my awesome life makes me smile.
