Finishing Friday

#AtoZChallenge 2024 letter P
Didn’t get enough time yesterday so Pictures will lend a weight.
Almost finished with the bottom of what I’m calling, “Shooting the Curl.” Yes. Another beach diamond painting.
My mixed slipper socks are at the increases for the Fleegle Heel. I like the arch ribbing I learned on the no-show sneaker sock.
I seem obsessed with Sudoku. I’m already on 35 of the new book.
Said new book.
I’m finally on the decrease part of the Fleegle Heel of the cotton socks. These I’m testing the elastic thread to strengthen the heel. That thread is hard to work with.
These are slower but turning out nice.
My daughter is making a pair out of this yarn. It made me so excited I had to find this watermelon yarn. With seeds built in! I have to wait for the fine needles to be free. But I can’t wait to start!
I found Kindle books for my Ukulele and
For my recorders. Just for something new to fiddle around with.

None of my music pursuits are quiet.  But I need to get busy on them. So I have to quit writing.

And oops! There’s

Open your eyes! Oscar the Octopus is out to escape. After observing that tank full of the powerful, eight-limbed, graceful Oscar, a mollusc of the order Octopoda, figures out the escape route over and over. He outsmarts the humans. Every time. He may be too intelligent for his own good, yet he can’t pass up a challenge.

The ocean is full of outstanding animals! But the octopus is over the top!

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “practice/practise.” Use it any way you’d like. Have fun!

Practice makes perfect. I used to believe that. I practiced my heart out and became a less than mediocre pianist. Not only have I practiced piano until bloody, but I have also written novels until I am crazy. I admit I am not a natural talent in either art. I do have talents, but I can’t do those things anymore for various reasons. The passions are there.

That said, maybe I have been too hard on myself. There is still hope, and I need to lower my expectations for a while. Aiming for perfection during a pandemic seems a lot more stress than I need to put out there. So if I want to hit 50K, I am going to extend my goal through next month. I will write every day as much as I can. But I can’t handle the stress. Writing Pandamapocalyps helps express and explore thoughts on the virus and letting my imagination play with it. But I need to keep it fun as a stress reliever. That way, I can play with the Pandas.

By the way, my word count is at 27,047. I’ve had the laptop in my lap all day. I barely made over a thousand words more. But as I left yWriter, I was having fun in the story, so I can’t quit. I just want a little less stress. I miss knitting! I need more of that in my life.

So that is my #A2Z version of the #SoCS and CampNaNo report.

I should have made my review part of the A-to-Z Challenge. After all, the Payback series by Cidney Swanson would have worked, right? But I didn’t think of it until now.

Instead, I made part of my first scene of tonight’s writing for my CampNaNo. Every character is in trouble. Robert and Owl, Nascha in Navajo, or wise one, are trying to get to the place where the green beam seemed to hit the moon. Without further ado, and knowing I have to get back to the actual writing, here is the partial scene:

“Pray it isn’t serious,” Owl said, knowing in his being that wasn’t so.

Robert knew it was serious. “Pray we can handle it properly. He had been called Haven’s own Leonardo Da Vinci. He was knowledgeable in a little of everything. He loved art and music but had degrees in science and technology. He was self-taught in psychiatry and philosophy. He was rarely without answers. Yet here he was a widower watching his planet of birth and his planet of choice in problems that no one could perceive.

Still, they ran a bit and sat a bit. They both knew Earth wouldn’t be able to reach them while they were running. They needed to proceed with caution. “What does that mean, though? Proceeding not at all seemed the most careful.”

Here was a job someone had to do, but there were few who could do it. Everyone seemed either caught in the green beam or dead. Years of living on Haven taught him not to take the obvious solution. Or even believe what is in front of your eyes. But many more years of Earth living before Haven made jumping to conclusions still the more probable hop.

___

I hope that made any kind of sense. If not, I guess you have to wait until the book is finished, like me! This book is a sequel in the Haven series. Its title is Haven in 3D. Haven, the first book can be found here.

Possible

Probably, it is possible, we will have SPRING. I don’t know what you all are seeing in FaceBook but every other non-political post is about Spring not being here and Winter pushing us past our limits.

This was ‘P’ day in my AtoZ Challenge. The second letter of Spring. Maybe by the time I get to the ‘S’s it will come?

Here’s where you find the real A to Z Challenge that I didn’t sign up for but Playing anyway.

Pals

Once or twice a week in a normal week, my pals from Reno and I get on Google Hangout and chat. It is a way we can see each other and just enjoy our time together, even if it isn’t in person.

Thanks to my son and daughter I was able to see my pals this past week. One of those pals came to see me at my daughter’s and sometimes took me places. Even took me to the next city to see our other pal. We were too busy visiting and knitting to take a picture so I substitute this. The other pictures were of women around tables. We weren’t around tables. We were on the sofa (I like sitting on the floor.) And I believe there should be more guys who knit, feminist that I am.

Even so, knitting with my pals while visiting was the best of fun, I think for all three of us!
