Getting lots done, just not the things I would have wanted to do for family and friends. Instead, charity yarn makes charity gifts.
Made on 80 pegs of KB fine-gauge Flexee loom. Fold up brim. Flat knit-stitch throughout. Kind of made up the decreases in crown.
The minute the loom was empty I divided it in two and made two 40-peg sock looms. Here’s the Kitchener cast-on (we were watching the Witcher so I called the cast-on the Witchener, hehe).
They will be slipper-socks.
Oh, and just for the curious, here’s the progress on the Diamond Painting. I can’t work at it for very long stretches but I do enjoy it.
I decided I had better get over here and try and see if I have anything at all to report. Sadly, I feel I have much more to-do on everything than any Ta-Da could handle. So let’s see if I can figure out What Day of the Week Is It Anyway? Tuesday means somehow Monday happened and I missed my writers’ group again. I think it is the timing. Sometimes it is after my only meal and I feel I need to wash dishes or nap, sometimes both. My phone isn’t near when I am not at the recliner or the bed or the desk. So hearing an alarm is always elsewhere and I missed it.
And I feel badly in that though I seem to get writing done, it is seldom their prompts that I’ve been writing, and I can’t read aloud right now. The news that I may not even get my surgery until after the beginning of the year is so discouraging. I usually have yWriter read back to me what I’ve been writing. If I am in editing mode I have Word read my work to me. I can’t wait until my eyes can read again! I miss stories coming into my eyes! I often miss things that are read to me. But I’m doing the best I can.
So, I have nearly made the daily quota for NaNo for the day. It is supposed to be 15,003 I’m at 14,861 so before I go to bed I will probably hit that. But with the two medical procedures coming up that will take up whole days I wanted to be a couple days ahead. Not that the procedures will take that long but each time we go to town it is four hours of driving and wearing on body and soul. Who knows how much energy I will have to write those days?
Four socks and a hat are in the early stages so I can’t even feel anything more than happy to be making them. The hands feel good doing what they can, you know?
And maybe because I’m supposed to be writing, I have found my recorders fun again. AND I just found the music book with Moonlight Sonata to play again! Yay! Me! I think I can blame the Pandora station called Classical Study Music Radio. They seem to tease me with that song every other piece! Guess who needs to dust her piano keys? Yep! This gal!
Though I can read music since my eyes are so bad, maybe I should work on this one (I used to have memorized) with just ears so I will try this guy out tomorrow:
Someday maybe I’ll share my musics with you. Right now I wish I could find a quiet spot in the woods where no one can hear me and just mess around with notes and sounds. After all, I share my blunders and mistakes with art, knitting, and all. Yeh, a lot of psychology is involved in the music of my life. It’s a work in progress.
Finally, done with the things like my walk, winter clothes out, and summer put away. Hey, did I tell you I’ve managed another 36+ hour fast? I’m pretty jazzed about that. It has taken me a LONG time to get to this point. I decided Sunday is best for the day to skip food. It gets more of a spiritual feeling as I try to find which things to focus my thoughts on. And just like the fast I did with my husband for his procedure last week, I find the hours 24 and 25 the most difficult. After that, it is a piece of cake. I broke that fast with two slices of bread with butter and one egg. And I didn’t get sick from it! Yay!
The fall progress picture was taken after my walk.
The trees and mesquite bushes are shedding quite a lot.
So on to my #Inktober submission and a continuation of the story.
“Crystal, wake up!” Her fan was shaking her.
“Go away. Let me sleep!” Crystal groaned. Then she rolled over. She was cold. She pulled on her hood and stuck her hands in her pockets. “Oh, it’s over?”
The fan was surprised. “Yeah. What was all that? Was it real?” The fan held out her hand. “Cindy, by the way. My name is Cindy.”
Crystal took Cindy’s hand and allowed Cindy to help Crystal to her feet. “Hi, Cindy! What happened?” Crystal knew. But each of her helpers experienced these things far differently from what Crystal knew as the truth.
“Were you a lizard? Who killed the guard? And should we go help that guy?” Cindy asked and pointed to another corner where a barrel seemed to be calling out with a hand waving. “And what is that sour smell?”
Crystal sniffed the air and wrinkled her nose. “Ew! Yeah. What is that?”
Crystal and Cindy walked toward the barrel. As they got closer, the word ‘Pickles’ gave them the odor’s origin. “They must be rotten pickles.” Crystal stated. She reached into the barrel and pulled out a man in a soggy green uniform. A puffy sopping hat was in his other hand.
“William! How did you get in here?” Crystal asked.
“There was a huge wind. It blew off my hat. The hat fell into the barrel. I had to go in and get it. But that was when I got stuck. I’m so glad you found me before I was pickled.”
Crystal laughed. She understood how all this happened. She wanted to hug her friend, but, ick! “Let’s go back to my trailer, and I’ll explain it all to both of you. After you shower and change into clean clothes, that is. You’re quite the guard, Will! And you were put into quite the pickle!” She laughed again.
According to Filicia Day in today’s lesson, Creating is hard; it takes doing and digging, and digging, and digging. [Not a direct quote but from my notes while listening. I thought that we were digging a grave for all the failures so the real one could live.]
An exercise in this book was inspiring today. The section is about procrastination and perfection and how these things stop the creative process. The instructions were to write five sentences about a superhero and a cat stuck in a burning building.
Here are my five.
Help my cat is left in my house!
Never fear Wonder Crone is here!
An appoggiatura, a leap and a step into the room.
Frodo won’t go.
Towel and soft talk and fly to the ground handing Frodo to her mom.
Frodo is my daughter’s cat who is afraid of me. Just for clarification.
Now the thing I have to do is rewrite this to perfection. Stay tuned. Maybe by next Wednesday I’ll have a better story.
Now is is the superhero I saw on Grey’s Anatomy (yes, I’m bingeing it again)
Making music. My housemates and neighbors may disagree.
My free classes ended last Thursday. It was fun having a Zoom class making progress through elementary music.
I am a music major so I can read music, no problem. Well, except for the eyes that have problems seeing. But recorder music is only one line. As opposed to four or more in piano music. So recorder is easier.
Without the black and white keys I have had to learn finger positions. Seems easy enough. Except fingers, my fingers are short and have a hard time reaching.
Maintaining breath while hitting the notes and trying to keep time present challenges.
Any of you who had to take recorder classes in school might remember the screeching noises of the soprano recorder.
So I am attempting to learn the alto, too. I love it’s rich smooth sounds. But my hands hurt after more than few minutes playing.
All the music time cuts my knitting time. So the socks are just two inches from being done. Maybe this week they’ll be complete.
No. I didn’t play Tetris. I needed to do more rearranging in my ‘studio.’
My daughter is deeply in a move. So much so that they are living with no furniture for two weeks. Everything has already moved or has been given away.
Which brings me to my new acquisitions from her. Two folding tables and a cubicle shelf for hobbies and books.
That meant moving the smaller bookshelf full of music books to another location.
End of the piano facing the livingroom.
That left the window area for the cubicle shelving for art, crafts, more books.
The yellow bag has drawing goods. The Avatar bag crayons and colored pens and coloring books. Soon each will leave the bag for new cubes.
Now I’ve opened the smaller table for all kinds of fun.
Right across from the piano.
Meanwhile, we actually had a tiny bit of rain today. Not enough to put out fires but it cooled things down a bit.
Three more Marvel films moved me on the timeline. Captain America: the Winter Soldier, and both Guardians of the Galaxy. I did like G of G. They were more my kind of movie. And Grood is the coolest!
Okay, time to make some noise or music accordingly.
I got up way later that I hoped. Still it wasn’t too hot so Kali and I walked our mile. She was so slow. I don’t know what was up. She usually loves her walks. So it was way slower than usual. My app didn’t record it. I listened to a podcast that my daughter introduced me to. It kept my mind busy so the walk was painless.
My friends and I have challenged each other to watch all of Marvel Universe in timeline order. My husband has joined. We are now on Ironman 3. I think this is my favorite of the Ironmen. By the way, you can find this order on Disney +.
I seem more tired since getting back. I had to take a nap. I usually do well on a 20 minuter. But I went far over. I was 1/2 hour late for my recorder class.
Luckily, I have a few lessons on my own before finding the class so it was review. I’m sure my advance will fade in the next two lessons. It was fun to be in a class with second graders to folks my age. I think that is the best kind of class. Be on the level of learning not peer groups.
Within a 1/2 hour of the end of recorder class was my writers group. I love the people in that group. Such a creative bunch. There are published authors to challenge all of us.
Okay, so how will I mash together the two prompts? Hehe. Done. Out the door! No, just kidding. This blog is for me to keep track of me and our lives here in the Oregon Outback. Hey, that was a double do I get extra points? That’s not an option? Well, bear with me as I find my way in this ocean of creative fun. Meanwhile, enjoy this YouTube of the outstanding observations, an overview, of course, of home. I don’t know this person.
Once there was an ogre named Oscar who grabbed an otter named Oliver and an opossum named Owen. He thought they were so cute that he tried to feed them the offal of a dead owl. His new friends wouldn’t have any. There was an odor emitting from the mash. They all decided it was a bad omen to even try it. So to oblige one and all, he buried the owl and gave it the best oration ever. Two baby owlets hopped down from the nearby oak. Their huge oval eyes were full of tears. Oscar, Oliver, and Owen brought them into an openly loving hug. And off they all went to enjoy the forest.
