This is usually called Finished Friday. But since I don’t have anything quite finished and a couple things that were I frogged, I can only show you the new works in progress from the frogs.
I know I showed you yesterday, but I finished the heel today and got started on the second instep I’m liking how the sock looks and even if not, they are for me, so pleasing me is all that counts, right?
I have the needle knitted socks on the circular needles that I frogged. I think that was my third frogging of same. But each time, I learn what I wanted to improve on. I also frog another toe of a smaller knitted toe instead of provisional cast-on like I did with the larger yarn destined to be more like slipper socks. I did a different kind of cast-on on a smaller set of circulars. By last night, I figured out how to do what I was trying, but I need more practice, so enter the next frog.
There is a reason I leave my curtains open until darkness has settled. Even on a cloudless and cold day, there is a reward:
Another fun view from my recliner as I knitted
This furry friend has adopted us but is too feral to come in so we can take better care of her. By the way, that is not her looking at us. Those are snowflakes that seem to be right where her eyes might be if she were looking at us. But if she were looking right at us, you would see the largest green eyes a cat can have. She is so sweet and friendly. But she doesn’t want you to pick her up, and she runs at the slightest noise. We will still work at getting her in to take her to a vet and get her fixed and vaccinated. Then I will really want her as an indoor kitty—too many dangers out here in the country.
Remember these?
I didn’t like how they looked on the cuff, so I frogged them and started with a comparable color toe.
I won’t bore you with the other 8 pairs of socks I’m working on. And I’m still learning to knit toe-up, two-at-a-time, magic circle. I’ve shared this video a couple times, but I am still using it to learn. So here you go.
I don’t know how to use the word ‘shutter’ in this sense as I know nothing about photography. But I did take a cell pic of my finished slipper socks. And John Holton, tell Mary one cuff is bigger. But hey, they are for me! Gift yarn = gift for me!
Your prompt for #JusJoJan and Stream of Consciousness Saturday is: “close eyes and point.” When you’re ready to write your post, open a book, a newspaper, or whatever is handy and close your eyes, and point. Whatever word or picture your finger lands on, make that the basis of your SoCS/JusJoJan post. Enjoy!
Since I am concentrating on learning to make needle knit socks the nearest book was:
and the random page I turned to was:
There are the words in the second paragraph on the page on the left.
‘The Basic’ seems awfully simple but I have been studying this book and trying different angles to get socks done. Not so basic. I have several starts on big and little needles. But what seems to be what will be working for me, I hope, is VeryPink’s version of Two Socks-at-a-Time, Toe-up. Here is the YouTube I’ve been working on for a few days now. I’m getting reading to frog again. But I know what I did wrong and so I have learned a little more with each try.
Meanwhile, Kali is doing better. My daughter shared this picture of the day they swore her in as Kali the dog. That was before my daughter moved from her brother’s duplex to her own apartment. That was when she learned how bad Kali’s separation anxiety was. That was how Kali came to live with us where she is never alone.
What can be more basic than the swearing-in of a dog? LOL!
Isn’t it the most interesting word, limp? My first thought is to the picture above. And as I look at the picture, it makes me think of last year and the beginning of this year. Slow and a struggle. Overall. But for me, retired, nothing has been too different. I have plenty of things I want to learn and do, and since I wouldn’t have had enough money to travel like I want to, I enjoy quieter pursuits.
Another look at the word makes me see that those my age are grateful to be up and walking even if the hips or other joints cause a bit of a limp. We’re just glad we aren’t down and out like a limp washrag. Who needs a picture of that? Oh, but I couldn’t resist Googling. What a surprise that what I found is a new sole-mate sock and otherwise yarning person. Check her out. What a fun vlog!
Now I have another fun YouTube to subscribe to and watch.
Now back to the socks I’m loom-knitting and needle knitting. And like poor Angela, the back is hurting, so I need to limp to take Kali outside.
We’ve had a bit of a limping snow flurry-ish today. I think the weather is getting colder again. Probably why the achiness. We are expecting snow on Sunday and then a couple more times next week. We need it. My eyes and soul love it, so I hope they are right. Some things are worth the pain, don’t you think?

1. Just Jot It January starts January 1st, but it’s never too late to join in! Here, we run on the honour system; the “jot it” part of JusJoJan means that anything you jot down, anywhere (it doesn’t have to be a post, it can even be a grocery list), counts as a “jot.” If it makes it to your blog that day, great! If it waits a week to get from a sticky note to your screen, no problem!
2. I’ll post prompts at 2am my time (GMT -5). The prompt will be the word in quotation marks in the title of my 2am post. You don’t have to follow the prompt every day, but that will be where you leave your link for others to see. You’ll get a prompt for every day except Wednesday, when the prompt is simply my One-Liner Wednesday and on Saturday, when your prompt will be the Friday Reminder and Prompt for #SoCS, which will appear at about 9:30am Friday. Each prompt post will include the rules.
3. Please ping back or link to the daily prompt. To ping back, just copy the URL from the daily prompt post, and paste it anywhere in your post. Check to make sure your link shows up where you want it to, and go back occasionally to see other bloggers’ entries – the more you visit others, the more they’ll visit you! Note: A) The newest pingbacks will be at the top of the comments section. B) Ping backs only work if you’re blogging on WordPress. Everyone else must paste a link manually.
4. Tag your post JusJoJan and/or #JusJoJan.
5. Write anything! Any length will do! It can even be a photo or a drawing – you’re going to title it, right? There’s your jot!
6. If your post is NSFW, do not ping back. Please leave your link in the comments with a warning.
7. If you’d like to, use the JusJoJan badge so that others can find your post more easily.
So keeping it personal, not political. Potatoes were okay. I needed to use more water. Brown rice not so done as I’d like, maybe need more water. Instapot gets it done without letting out any smell of something cooking. My other pressure cooker make wonderful smells and lets me know when food is just right. So not defeated. Learning curve.
Needle knitting, barely tinked today, no frogging. Win!
If you would like to participate in this prompt, feel free to use the “One-Liner Wednesday” title in your post, and if you do, you can ping back here to help your blog get more exposure.

‘I dunno. Bet she’s trying to give me that disgusting medicine. But… I am as cute as a button. she’s told me that!’
Poor Kali had to go to the vet today. We found blood in her urine. That hour and a half drive is horrid for her on good days. After all is said and done, there was an infection, and she has to take amoxicillin. She doesn’t like it at all.
Speaking of buttons, what is this project with all the buttons? I have a lot of sewing to do. Ugh! I love knitting and crochet, but I hate sewing. But when the projects are done, I will share the results.

My loom has been sitting on my lap, and the yarn slipping through my fingertips as I finished this hat. In the first picture, the brim folded up. The second the brim down. I used the Flexee loom—80 pegs for an adult hat. The yarn didn’t come with a label though it was a gift, so the result is a gift. It did have the coolest way of changing. I think I spelled it wrong the last time I mentioned it—Ombre has gradually changed color. I’m left with just a little left, so not sure what to do with it.
The Flexee links can be arranged to keep track of stitches. I set mine up as the lavenders are knits and the purple purls. That way, I don’t lose my place during the rib making (knit 2, purl 2). The rest of the hat is a flat knit stitch.
The decrease in the crown is the most fun. I use Kristen’s way with my own adaptation for the Flexee links. After doing her final step, I move the loops over one to remove the next link, thereby removing 20 links, then I follow Kristen’s decrease once again and then close as she suggests. Here’s the YouTube.
This is how my crown looks:
I think it is cool. I hope the recipient will like it, too.

Finally finished! Flexee fine-gauge loom. I don’t know the name of the yarn as there was no label. It was a gift so these are gifts.
I didn’t think a toe-up kitchener cast-on would work, but it was far better than on other looms.
Oh, the graduation of colors didn’t work quite right leaving most of one sock golden and the other very off. So I stole from both outer and inner strands as needed to have the socks match as best as I could. The tinking and frogging to make it about drove me crazy. But I’m happy with the results. And I still have enough yarn for one more hat!
