Fun And Games

In spite of threatening fires and a bit of sadness about my daughter and her SO moving to Wisconsin, there has been fun.

First, I realize that offspring need their wings. And as far apart as we live right now, we don’t see each other more than a couple of times a year. Meanwhile, we chat on the phone, IM, or Zoom a couple times a month.

So this visit has been a bit strange. She works from home during the day. The couple have been packing to the point of being close to the actual move. That means I’m at loose ends during the day. My other guys here in town are also working so day visits are out with them, too.

Luckily I have a couple retired friends here to keep the fun moving. Unfortunately, one caught a cold just before I came so we’ve only got to talk on IMs. I hope she’ll be well enough before I have to go home.

My other friend who drove up to see me is the one who drove me down here. She’s been carting me around during the day as we look for inexpensive pastimes. We met at a BookCrossing group that also was a board game group. And we were a part of a writing group. So you can see we have a lot in common. She even loom knits!

Anyway, seems I’m taking the long way around to tell you, these hot days kept us inside to stay cool. One day she brought out her Blockbuster Video game. You know how excited I was to see it!

This game should be played with three to six players. There are several ways to play it. With only two of us we had to be creative. We played it similarly to Apples to Apples. In case you’ve never played that I’ll go grab a YouTube of that at the bottom. We didn’t know half the movies presented so we got creative. It was fun. I can see it would be more fun with more people. By the way, ours was the smaller set so it didn’t have a buzzer.

Another day my friend brought out Primordial Soup game. She and I had played it a couple of years ago together. As like then, it is a game for more than two that we got creative and made it work for us. I wish I could play this one more often. I think the more you play the more strategy you can employ. It is a lot of fun. Imagine these two old ladies sitting taylor style on the floor like a couple of kids!

Here’s the Apples to Apples game. Though the game is fun, I think this host needs to take a chill pill. Calm down!

Board games aren’t for everyone. Only my daughter and I like them in my family. The males don’t like them at all. But with daughter so busy we didn’t get to pull out a game.

Instead, we pulled out Disney plus and watched Little Mermaid. It was a favorite of hers growing up.

Then I shared with her Mickey Mouse Club.

Then her boyfriend and she settled on Loki. I didn’t think I would like it. But I do!

Do you have board games you like? What is a memory movie that brings you home?

I can think of names of people I know who have heard me say that I didn’t believe Pyramid Lake existed. Julie, Cheryl, Chris, Yve are a few.

The thing is, while I lived in Reno, NV, I made many plans to see said lake. But plans fell through every single time.

Finally, I got there. It was beautiful and peaceful. Unfortunately, it was very hot so we didn’t stay long. But here is the proof:

Please Wiki the lake. It had quite the story to tell. Tufa and all

Made it, Monday

Well, I made it to my daughter’s. It was a long but fun ride with my friend. We enjoyed 60s oldies to get us through the trip.

Sadly, we had to drive through a lot of smoke to get into Reno. So much burned on either side of the freeway. A lot of home lost or in danger. Many were evacuated awaiting a chance to see if they still have homes. It’s so sad.

My people are safe. But this is not so for so many.

Meanwhile, temps are in the triple digits. Thank goodness for AC in the homes I’m visiting.

I’m so tired from the trip I think I’ll retire early.

As of Tomorrow:

For those who need to know; travel Monday and see you soon!

Thus Thursday

Don’t you hate it when you make the plan to postpone publishing a blog for another date and then suddenly you have published it? Yeah, the review yesterday was supposed to be today’s blog. Oh well. Live and learn!

It’s all coming together! I have a dining/hobby room! I put a screen up to hide my piano for a bit of privacy. Yeah, they can still hear me, but I am not distracted by folks as they sit in the other room or walk by. And now that there is so much room! I’m seriously thinking of bringing the recording studio up to that room. The curtains can be the background screen or the piano. Trouble is if the family tries to walk through, there might be problems, especially if they want to talk. At least the bedroom has a door, and I can put up a sign. Okay, maybe not.

My company will be here Sunday. My error. I was just too excited to have someone visit. But now grateful for the chance to keep cleaning. And the last few days have been lovely. So working was easy. Still have plenty to do. And I know I will be so happy when I get back from my trip to see the house so tidy.

I have continued my music in the evenings. Some things are improving some still need lots of work. I have signed up for recorder lessons for free on FaceBook that I hope will help with the breath. And stiff fingers.

Guess what I found while cleaning?! My Day Runner. Did any of you have one of those? I think that was what it was called. I found with a little work I could get it up and running again. I am finding the calendar and contacts on my phone get messed up too often. And I think it will keep me more organized with my crafts and hobbies. Maybe then I will remember to get to my Zoom Writer’s Meet? For some reason, I have a time in my day that I forget it is Monday, and I don’t remember until the meeting is long over. Boo! me.

And I found this within it:

Next time I go to Bend I can rent something! Remember when it got funny to say, ‘Be Kind, Rewind’?

Well, time to go play some tunes! Keep cool everyone. If not, have pity on those who live in Death Valley. It should be 134F tomorrow.

Happy Sunday

And Independence Day. For tradition we watched our DVD of same.

For the last couple days I’ve been bingeing on Hinterland.

Or anything with cold weather, like, yes, another hit of Day After Tomorrow.

Right now I hear the fireworks at the little park against the noise of Tomorrow War.

Many things are happening in the next two weeks. I’ll have company this week and the week after I will be company. I finally get to see family and friends. And for me friends are family. And vice versa.

So just because it’s hot and nothing gets accomplished, doesn’t mean good things can’t happen. The best news is that while I’m away there’s AC everywhere. That’s something.

Okay, back to your regularly scheduled lives. 😁

Tuesday

It is still too hot in the house. Yet it is PERFECT out here on the porch.

Do you see the mesquite pods getting long? And the mint beneath is giving me ideas for tea popsicles. I made green tea ones for tomorrow and Thursday.

Oh, and the sun is setting. I don’t know if you can see the gorgeous like I can. My eyes are still better than the cell lens. That’s something to be thankful for.

My baby toe got x-rayed today. I know it’s broken but the doctor wanted to see the pics anyway.

I got an email from the doc saying how proud she is of not only the weight loss but how all my numbers were so much better than last time. Yay! ME! Not anywhere near done with IF and Keto!

Okay, mosquitoes are biting. Time to go in.

Someone out there might need this.

Finished Friday!

My music/hobby studio is nearly complete. At least the piano is where it needs to be and most of the music books and things are situated. And knitting gear (because the knitting has no home yet) are in the place I want them to be. I even sat and practiced, actually played something over and over until I got it right, and then played some more. Yay! Me! The lighting is good. There is an overhead light and one for over the shoulder. The sound is good there and I feel better not being parked next to my son’s bedroom. I wish I were soundproof but whatever.

Oh, and the–whatever this piece of furniture is called– is now in the entryway of the living room. It will be cleaned out and filled with things like scarfs, gloves, hats and the like. The masks are on top.

Oh, those are portraits of my brothers and me as kids. And that was the flag I received for my vet dad when he passed I think that was a decade ago. I do miss him.

The basket next to the–whatever that piece of furniture is called–will be cleared out for boots and shoes, etc. To the left of that piece of furniture is a small hat tree. I want to make another longer one in the open wall to hang our coats.

My brother, son, husband and I worked very hard getting the furniture moved and in the new homes. Today started the going through the mountain of boxes we created while moving things around. We felt like we were playing Tetris sans the fun but irritating music!

The vlog studio still needs work but we are seeing more progress, No picture it or of the dining table that though it has been cleared is surrounded by mount boxes. But hey, that is a lot done for a bunch of retired and disabled people!

Hope you all had a Fantastic Friday and have a great weekend!

Tornado Tuesday

No. we’re safe. I know there are some really scary things like floods, and tornados on the east coast. And out here the fire season is getting serious, especially with the lightning storms we are having in spite of sizzling heat. But my tornado is more what I got done and then what I enjoyed as a reward when tired.

I did get a lot of the work done toward my vlog studio and my music studio. Not finished by far but a couple cooler days like today and I think that will be done. I can’t wait! I’ll take pictures if not YouTube the finished results.

And the day ended so beautifully! Forgive the dirty droplets on the window It has been windy and rainy making muddy windows!

I had an issue with passwords and getting into my games got weird. But the issue is finally ironed out. I am doing a sort of inventory of the purchased games to see which I should have downloaded and which I can skip. I tried out something like Mosaic 3? I can’t remember but it was puzzle after puzzle. I may find a time that I might want to play it in the middle of winter, but I need the distraction of great graphics and hidden objects. I can’t see to read well. But with my glasses on upside down, for some reason, I can see the screen well enough to find most objects. They seem to be getting my mind in removal mode. Does that make sense? I play a while then run and get stuff done. Then tired and game again.

My newest fun is Tornado: The Secret of the Magic Cave. The finding is harder as the pictures are smaller but this is a younger feeling game. Though the main characters are at driving age they seem to be living alone in a cabin, and then are having to survive in a cave after a tornado wrecks their lives. They are siblings so I guess that was the way to get away from the romantic element of some of these games. I wish it would play faster but I am enjoying camping without the rocks biting me in my chilled sleep. I probably won’t play the rest of the night as I haven’t played my recorder in days and I miss it.

Muggy Monday

So, as promised, a near 100 degree day with high humidity. So another day of games. What else can I do? Oh, and we found the reason, or so we think, for the crazy internet reception. Most anything that relies on the net had the annoying circle spinning rather than something fun to watch. So real TV played with all the stupid commercials in the background. We watched several versions of local news which gave us the bad extra news of lightning storms on top of draught and heat. The occasional rain is welcome and smells so wonderful.

So what did I play? Unfinished Tales: Illicit Love. The games yesterday were funnish. This game, has its moments but if you need help the “Hints” were unhelpful for where you were. In fact, Argelfumph: The Nancy Drew Dude, said exactly that on his walkthrough.

I walked with him for a while and suddenly I found myself in different areas of the game than his video. I got as far as his second part when I finally gave up and just relied on the strategy guide and map and occasional “hint” lady. I suppose this is a good game for if you are entirely bored. Oh, yeah, that’s where I was! Boreland!

When I finished that one I ate my OMAD (One Meal a Day) and moved on to the next of the games on my purchase list from six year ago and more. Thank goodness Big Fish keeps a list and once you have purchased you can download as often as you need.

So the one I am working on is Timeless The Forgotten Town. I couldn’t find a YouTube but would prefer to have a Walkthrough that wasn’t YouTube so I went with the one on Big Fish.

The walkthrough is pretty good. But every time I try to leave the game to look at the walkthrough the game gets wonky and I have to close down and start the game again. Luckily, I don’t lose my progress. I have played most of my games before. Most of them have been so long ago that they seem new. This one I sort of remember. Outside of the wonkiness of my computer or the game itself, I think this one is fun.

So, I think I’ll get back to it. Tomorrow is supposed to be much cooler so the guys and I plan a very busy working day. We have company coming, and that is a good reason to get on top of this mess! I can’t wait to move the piano and set up a bit of a studio for music and then another for the vlog or whatever that turns out to be. I am excited to get started on all of it!

I hope you all had a great Solstice! Looking at the countrywide forecast for the day didn’t look that great and in comparison our weather was mild. Please be safe out there.

Sorry that the Bitmoji seems to have a broken arm. They didn’t have a Solstice on and this was all I could create that looked somewhat happy.
