I know what day it was Monday. The writer’s Zoom meeting happened. I learn so much about the history of Southern Oregon at these meetings. After years in California and then in Nevada, I find learning about my newest home, even though we’ve been here a while, makes me even happier here.

Okay, I have to admit something. In spite of the constant knitting, my show of choice while the fingers are busy, it Outlander, yes, again. The more often I watch it and have finished the books, so I guess I’m going through withdrawal. And with the craziness going on, this is a bit of comfort and guaranteed distraction.

So for the rest of Monday, I will go back to my distractions.

I think it is Sunday. The day and date faded in and out all day leaving me wondering.

We did watch CBS Sunday Morning. I remember having tears and laughter as the show progressed between the deaths of the famous and Jim Carrey’s humor. The most impressive moments of the show were these:

Amazing.

But as with most shows these days, a lot centered around COVID19 and our new normal.

I knitted my day away. We actually finishing Independence Day Resurgence. I didn’t find it so awful as I had the first time I watched it. And my husband and I found interesting faces and storylines that seemed not to tie in as they should. Come to find out there is a book (Independence Day: Crucible) that should be between the two movies. So I ordered it. I will try to read it when finished with this Outlander (at chapter 117 of 142-?)

The ID2 story seems more to ring true with COVID19’s global threats. Never in my lifetime do I remember having so much in common with other countries. Sure we lived through the ducking beneath our desks in case a bomb hit. Like that would ever help. But we were very young and the in-class movies showed us the importance.

Then we had an assassination of an actual president, that we most loved. In our protestant house, there was fear of him. My parents hated that I was glued to the set as Catholic services and movies kept the sadness front and center of everyone’s minds. But I don’t remember much about how the world handled it. It was mostly global in our heads.

How about the moon landing? That was massive. But was it? It was USA landing and claiming. Sure we connected in country but maybe that wasn’t as global as we thought.

So as a reverse independence day started occurring in March, as our social groups grew smaller our minds seemed to see farther than we have, well, at least in my lifetime. On the movie Independence Day, it was by Morse Code that we connected globally to attack the enemy. For twenty years the world stayed in harmony until the next threat of the alien beings tried to kill us all.

Do you think there will be a day as we fight the enemy that all countries will unite and kill the virus and we will be at peace? Will we find a happy ending to all this? This is far harder than shooting guns and flying spaceships. The enemy is unseen. So small most of us wouldn’t know what it looks like. We wear masks not to protect us but others. There is no shield we can hold up. It is only in seeing loved ones or people two degrees from us that we can see it not as a laugh but as serious as the insectoid/octopuslike aliens.

How odd to have something so deadly pointed at us and to stand weak, yet caring for others. The old adages of TV Westerns where the hero stands between the bandit and the loved one doesn’t apply. None of the rules of the games we have learned work for this. I know my mother and parents of we older boomers worried about the scum in ponds that could, in their minds, cause polio. But I don’t think that disease was as contagious as this. I know it was horrid. I remember stories. But I don’t remember meeting anyone who had it. I did meet a couple people later in life that had recovered from it with crutches and skinny legs. I was still too young to understand anything about it. We still got to go see our grandparents and go to church and school.

With the #WDIIA, we have a prompt that helps us to meander through our thoughts. Today, the day after Independence Day my thoughts see a tiny invisible thing that is more powerful than what Will Smith had to deal with. Today means that it is day 1 on fourteen days we who are more vulnerable have to stay isolated because others need their crowds. How many will die because you need to party? Couldn’t a day of introspection of how we won our Independence and the lines left for us, “Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness” be better than beer and hotdogs? Isn’t my life as important as your need to carry a gun?

Okay, that was a lot of wandering around. I know others can say all this so much better than I. But I needed to say it. And now it is nearly Monday #WTIIA

Sunday Is the Answer

Hey, look. I’m here at nine and the computer is working properly. I don’t know why it gets so glitchy the closer to midnight it gets.

Most of the day I listened to the audio of The Stand. It is interesting to see the story in depth. The characters still remain the ones on the older series. Molly Ringwold, etc. I do understand the crazier ones through the book. Yet I am only at 68%. Five more days until it is due to go back to the library.

Meanwhile, I’m following this tutorial to make myself some scrubby washrags.

No, I haven’t received my flex-skinny yet. I’m using my old broken Hers of the KB His Hers sock loom. I like how they feel in my hands. I’m working on two other pairs of socks, two hats, and a couple toys. I do what hurts my hands least.

I still haven’t gotten my crafty things done or the socks to my daughter and her beau.

Oh, before I started reading my hubby and I watch Ad Astra. I think I would have liked the book better. Another sci-fi for the guys.

Still, it was fun to watch it together.

It was a gorgeous day here. Just right. Just enough breeze to ripple the flag. Kali and I enjoyed ‘outside’ just standing or sitting and feeling free.

CBS Sunday Morning was touching. As was the UU Zoom meeting. I’m rather sad that Sunday is nearly over.

Wow! Look at that! A whole blog without the frustration of my computer being slower than snail mail!

I hope you all had a good day. Find your quiet zen moments if you can. And

So the laptop is still getting scans. So I’ll have to blog a quickie.

Trash, check.

Knitting charity socks. Check

Finished watching Another Life. Check. I can’t wait for season two. Here is a link to the trailer (I hope)

Spent most of the day listening to the library audio of The Stand. It is due back in eight days.

Everyone here is fine. We’re trying to find the bright side of life.

How are you all doing?

Hopefully, I will have my computer back tomorrow.

This past couple of weeks, I have been watching Madam Secretary. It was a mostly calm way to keep my sanity.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zy4C2NYE19Y
I hope that opens. The internet is driving me crazy. Anyway, I don't know if I can say it was the best show. But it did have a calming affect on my nerves and gave me a place to set my eyes when not knitting.

Now I am on to the Marvelous Mrs. Maisel for the next season.

It is more fun with a lot of music that brings me back.

Yay! I finished sock #1 for my daughter’s boyfriend.

Now I just need to finish the ribbing on sock #2. It is the slowest part of the sock for me but I am learning to relax and let it help bring me peace in these ugly times.

Meanwhile, we got caught up in Tales from the Loop on Amazon. It is interesting.

It has some sad parts but it is a show to make you think. That is a nice change!

What are you watching? What are your accomplishments for the day?

A horrid humid day. I didn’t even knit much for the heat. But I watched these shows today. The first was Quartet. I found it deep diving in Netflix. I’m tired of their suggestions so I scrolled a long time. I don’t want to watch another teen show. I don’t want to watch perfect Barbie Doll women. I don’t want to watch shows all about men with a sprinkling of women like bell peppers in a stew. Ugh! Boring!

And there was Quartet. This is one I will watch a few more times. It felt like there was quality there, even though it was produced (I think) by Weinstein, and one of the characters was a sickening old horn-dog, a skank, a whore-man. The rest was a pure story about people getting older and living in a home for retired musicians.

It made me think (music major in another life, or so it seems now). I think if people try to be resilient, the things they sunk their heart and soul into can move into other things to sink into. Especially if you are somewhat creative, one passion can become many others. Or you learn that maybe you have to adjust Like Julie Andrews had to. Maybe writing children’s’ books become a passion with the fervor of singing. Anyway, here’s a trailer.

The passion I felt from this movie was similar to what I felt long ago watching White Knights, you know the two dancers from completely different worlds. I even went out and bought the coffee table book about it. I know, I know, it is two guys. It was before my goal of women movies. But passion is what I’m talking about here. Just thinking about this movie makes me want to look it up. I think I used to own it, but who knows.

After a siesta as it was too hot and humid to move, I started watching The Goldfinch on Amazon. Not nearly as good. I was distracted by other things, dishes, and boring stuff, so I had to restart it like five times to understand what it was about. I don’t feel I gained anything by watching it. But I wasn’t into deep thoughts, just needed noise in the background. I felt so sorry for the kid as he didn’t seem to get any good breaks. And with the depressing stuff going on, this wasn’t the right thing to watch. But maybe others will like it.

Yeah, she’s in it but not much.

Now it is cooling off so I think I will stand on the porch and enjoy the sky, apparently there is a lightning show to the east.

What Day Is It Anyway?

Where has this day gone? I know I did a bit of knitting. I looked at my CampNaNo book from last month but never did any editing. I did add a prompt to work on tomorrow.

Oh, yeah I spent the day doing laundry. I still have one more basket to fold. Well, that’s exciting. Okay. I am grateful to have clothes, washer, and dryer. detergent and all. I am. Just tired.

It was a nicer day today (70) and tomorrow should be even warmer (72). We don’t have to drip the faucets. Another thing to be grateful for. I was glancing at photos from last year at this time and we had snow on the 21st.  This whole winter was far less snow but way colder temps that just seemed like they’d never give up. Maybe we are on a warming trend. Please no 100s.

Okay. I know it was Sunday as we did the Zoomie church (UU) and CBS Sunday Morning. But no John Oliver to round it out.

I got on a kick and decided to watch Battlestar Galactic from the very beginning to see if I could get it this time.  So season one from– I think–the seventies. Wow! The hairdos! I found the first season on SyFy the app. It seems like we were growing as a people. Though this is heavy in males, and the women were arm candy or mothers or both, at least the arm candy mothers were becoming pilots of the fighters.

I do love the shiny hair! And the boy and the dog robot. Oh, and heard the first FRACK!

May you have a nice Memorial Day tomorrow if you celebrate it where you are.

Another productive day of editing.

And to reward myself I spent the day catching up with Outlander the fifth season. This is the book I have read. I am still reading the next one. The books get longer and longer.

I have to say I love the television version better. The longer the books are getting the less I’m finding engaging.

I must admit that in the last few days I’ve been floundering for something good to watch. When that happens I watch things I don’t care about but take the place of noise as I edit or knit. The Originals is one of those shows.

Riverdale gave a healthy way to grieve Archie’s father, Luke Perry having passed in actuality. It was different.

We did finish Colony. Why did it end?!!! The last bit made us want more of the real story and real aliens we can see.

And Big Little Lies is interesting I love all the actresses and the way the story is developing.

What have you been watching?

While knitting up a storm or three, I’ve been bingeing a bunch of things. I had that floundering feeling after Grey’s Anatomy and This Is Us ended. So I have been more or less sampling. And in no particular order, because I didn’t write it down, duh!

Okay. Not my kind of show. I don’t like a lot of shooting and car chases, not to mention a perfectly good Alfa Romeo ruined. But I know tons of you will love this. Maybe when anxiousness isn’t the go-to emotion this would be fun for me. Oh, and Bechdel has got to frown at this one.

But then again though equality stands the tests how can I like stuff like:

Hey, they got some things right in Carriers and if you can watch shows about pandemics this is okay;

To lighten things up I took all the choices on Kimmy!

That one was hard to knit to as I had to keep dropping the loom for the remote to make the right or left or middle choice accordingly. It did make me laugh a few times.

I finished Dead to Me. I did have to go back and rewatch the first season. But it was fun and kept my mind busy while knitting.

Today I finished Doctor Foster

I dunno. Too much angst and not using enough logic as I would hope from a doctor. But again, great for knitting!

Right now I am watching our recorded from Christmas Time, Frozen. It is cute enough that I might have to buy it.

If it wasn’t for commercials in this recording I wouldn’t get this blog done!
