Thank you, Linda and Kim.

Your prompt for JusJoJan January 27th, 2022, is “understanding.” Use the word “understanding” any way you’d like. Enjoy!

Understanding our differences and loving each other not just in spite, but because of said difference is the path to peace.

Even better, if we spend time to understand ourselves we’ll see our reflection in others.

When we cry or laugh together we show our understanding.

Okay maybe too glib but I believe these in my heart. I’m still working on all of it.

One-liner Wednesday is a fun prompt courtesy of Linda G. Hill. As is January’s #Just Jot it January. Click on the link above to learn more.

Jotting in January is a just thing to do. 🖖

Although I probably won’t read these two books, but I appreciate my man’s reviews.❤

Lilith: The Mother of all Dark Creatures by E.R. Vernor presents the reader with a superb primer on Lilith as Adam’s first wife before the creation of Eve. If you have never heard of Lilith, or if you have and want to know more, this treatment provides you with information you have not previously exposed yourself to. You become emersed in legend, myth, mystery, and horror when you begin reading. Lilith: The Mother of all Dark Creatures is not for the faint-hearted individual who is not secure in their belief system. Approach carefully. Tread lightly. You’re about to experience cognitive dissonance at critical mass.
Lilith: The Mother of all Dark Creatures is the result of E.R. Vernor’s research of Lilith. She is at once Adam’s companion and adversary. Demon and goddess. Giver and taker of life.
Vernor dives deeply into the Lilith legend. He cites sources like Gilgamesh, The Torah…

Journaling has always been hit and miss for me. I was most successful last year. In January at the beginning of the pandemic I heard someone say the more people who wrote about our world and related it personally, the better for the archeologists who find said diaries.

I was extremely consistent and as accurate as I could be and let my worst fears, angers, and imaginations go wild. I managed longer than any other attempt at writing a journal. I think I wrote daily at least until June. Then the journal informed my Camp NaNo project Pandamapocalypse.

By September, I had fallen into my old habits. At first, I missed a day here or there. Before I knew it months had gone by with no entries.😪

At least here at the blog and Duolingo, I’ve been consistent for quite a while, a couple of years, actually. So, not a journal per se. But an entry a day. Yay!

Check out the rules and make friends for JusJoJan.

What a well-written review.

The Gospel of Lilith is a creative work of fiction based on legend and conjecture. However, this imaginative story does not appear to stray far from the images people have of Lilith. After reading it, the reader will come away with multiple questions about Adam’s first wife. Is she benevolent or malevolent? Was it Lilith or Eve – Adam’s second wife after Lilith leaves Eden – lead Adam astray after feeding him the fruit of The Tree of Knowledge? Was the fruit of The Tree of Knowledge an apple, a fig, or a pomegranate? Did Adam gain more knowledge after eating the fruit? Did it matter?

The story is a first-person narrative told by Lilith – ostensibly, Adam’s first wife. Lilith describes her life after leaving Adam and Eden. Lilith — ostensibly Adam’s first wife — speaks in a first-person narrative. Lilith describes her life after leaving Adam and Eden.

Through the Magic SunglassesThrough the Magic Sunglasses by Mariia Manko
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This book gives the phrase “looking at the world through rose-colored glasses” a whole new meaning.

I picked up this book for free on Kindle Unlimited because of the blurb. Okay. I’ll share it.

“When Mariia storms out of her boyfriend’s Kyiv apartment forever, she has no idea what is awaiting her. She is handed a pair of ‘magic’ sunglasses by a mysterious cabdriver on her way to Berlin, and what begins as a journey to get over her breakup turns out to be the adventure of her life. The sunglasses become her secret helper, always showing her an escape route as Mariia is chased by a trio of rich, vindictive women who want a compromising flash drive back from her, going from Berlin to Düsseldorf to Paris and then on to Abu Dhabi and Ras Al Khaimah.
Combining urban fiction and self-help with a dashing tale of adventure, Mariia Manko’s Through the Magic Sunglasses is an enchanting story about independence, strength, and believing in yourself.”

And yes, it was an adventure. But the most challenging part for me was how the main character couldn’t stop thinking about her ex and get on with the magic she had been given. I think that was the part that ruined it for me. The rest of the book was fun. And it was upbeat and a bit of a self-help book.

Per Linda:

Your prompt for #JusJoJan and my very first birthday-Stream-of-Consciousness-Saturday is: “icing on the cake.” Write about the first thing that comes to mind when you think of the phrase “icing on the cake.” Enjoy!

Remember how I felt I was finished with my Doctor Who Starry Night Diamond Painting? I had thought poking in the last few diamonds, cover with protective, glossy, Modge Podge would be it. But finding those last few empty spots to fill, figuring out what number you are looking at, even with a magnifying glass, seemed nearly impossible. But I was now down to one or two spots. I reached over to look at my Fire to hit the pause. Instead, I knocked over the full container of the number I was aiming for next.

The icing on the cake was finding most of the gems fell on the floor. That’s when I learned how many had fallen since I started the project. A quick sweep produced a huge pile of multicolored plastic bits and hair and dust. Yuck! I need one of those cute little vacuum cleaners made just for diamond painters. I spent most of the day cleaning the mess. Then I finished the popping on diamonds. And finally organized the leftovers from this project. As soon as I cover the painting with the gloss and paint on a frame I’ll take it’s last picture.

I can’t wait to start my next and actually my first DA project. I ordered it LAST January, received it last June. But my friend gifted this Doctor Who to me and my other friend and herself. So it became a group project. It was fun chatting and working together on Zoom.

My mission for Fridays is to have something accomplished. Some weeks I don’t even come close to a finished product. This week, there are a few things I’m proud of. Even though close is all I got.

Probably will finish tomorrow on another scrappy slipper socks for charity, using up some small skeins.
Only a couple empty ‘drill’ spots. I’ll do those before bed. Tomorrow I will ‘Mod Podge’ and paint the border. Then I will look at my next project. Try painting? Sunset beach Diamond Painting? Rock painting? So many artsy-fartsy things to try!
Finish of a perfect day, including a mile walk with Kali.

Now I just need to find music time!

Apsara by Pearl Whitfield

Apsara by Pearl Whitfield

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I don’t often share the blurb, but since it isn’t on GoodReads, this is the one I found on Amazon:

“Apsara is the story of a young girl in a remote village in 12th century Cambodia who loves to dance. She is chosen to train as an Apsara for King Jayavarman VII. Apsaras dance to bring heaven to earth, blessing the land with prosperity. Bopha walks from her home to Angkor Wat, and begins a life she could never have imagined.”

I was so happy to pick this book up on Kindle Unlimited. That way, I could listen to the story in text-to-speech. As the author was writing it, I heard parts of the story. I often missed the chance to listen to more. That broke my heart. Still, I could hear the author’s voice in my head as I listened to the British representative of TTS. I would love to have this story on Audible so that the pronunciations of non-English words and names would be proper.

The story itself is so riveting. I had a hard time putting it down when it was time to sleep. Ms. Whitfield managed to keep the story interesting while throwing in the history, culture, language, religion, and dance of the people of 12th century Cambodia. I loved the main character, Bopha, and wish there was more. I’d love to know more about the teen twins and the daughter.
