The Sole With Soul

I don’t know why I made that title. Mostly to remind me of the prompt of the day. But it did make me see dancers. Yes, this one:

For seeing the sole of the shoe in the moonwalk dance during the Billie Jean performance brought me back to listening to popular music. The 70s were not nearly as exciting for me as the 60s so I had taken to just my few albums, 33 1⁄3  if you please.

The next decade offered tons of wonderful music as one of my children noticed the Beatles and another the Cure and Depeche Mode and Queen I was happy to turn on the radio. The kids and I sang loudly!

Music plays a part in my soul at all times with such eclectic turns and extremes. From the forced piano lessons from ages 5-15, church music, singing non-stop even in my dreams, classic and even an occasional loud metal or rap. It’s all in there and always on.

As for the other picture in my mind for the prompt, and I hope I can find a picture that matches the one in my head, the dancing sole-fish:

Okay, I know it isn’t a sole fish, but he seems to be dancing with soul!

Thanks, Linda, for this fun challenge!

Changing Your Pain Pathways: Ways to cope with pain in daily lifeChanging Your Pain Pathways: Ways to cope with pain in daily life by Bronwen Moore
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I have been doing chair-yoga for a while. It is one of the things I do to help become healthier in spite of the pain. One of the YouTube tutorials I follow features the authors of this book. Cara, Sarah, and Bronwen. As they are introduced I tried to decide who was who. Here is the link to the lesson:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XMps5…

Now what I had thought was the one in the middle and the one on the right of the screen looked like sisters. Then I thought they might be twins. Thereby I named them Cara and Sarah. The one on the left didn’t look related so I figured she was Bronwen. I went online to see if I could find these teachers’ pictures. Nothing that helped my curiosity. But then I discovered their book. With fibromyalgia and arthritis competing for my full attention, I thought maybe I could find something that would help me become healthier and have less pain. I found the Kindle version was cheaper so bought it. I would suggest if you have the money get the paper book as it is a workbook with pages to fill out as you move along.

The workbook idea is a good one to help you realize your points of pain increases and decreases. It helps you see how your mind can steer you to better health. And even more important how you can help others to see what you are going through and how they can help you. People caught in chronic pain cycles find themselves bullied in every direction.

As it happened I was in the middle of a flare and reading this by text-to-speech helped me reflect on my pain and my methods of relief. I don’t take many drugs for it as I found they made me sicker. The occasional Advil and CBD for sleep. The rest of the time I use distraction therapy. Keep my mind working on interesting projects.

I will be picking up this book again in the near future to do the exercises and journal what I learn as I go. Thank you for the tutorials and this book to all of you involved in it.

Happy Pi Day

Chapter 2 is following Chapter 1 of Haven.

I hope that counts for a One-Liner Wednesday one-liner. To add to that line if you want to read the whole book or in another place find Haven here.

Don't Let's Go to the Dogs Tonight: An African ChildhoodDon’t Let’s Go to the Dogs Tonight: An African Childhood by Alexandra Fuller
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Look, I didn’t hate it. It obviously kept my interest until that mild end. Yet, I just didn’t get into it like others I see in the reviews.

As I have said on reviews of other biographies/autobiographies, I don’t feel I can stand in judgment of another’s life and the viewpoints of their life. And this book was another example of a person’s life and perspective.

One of the things I like was the language the author used as she grew up. It was a bit confusing at first, especially on text-to-speech to hear the immature language of the author as a toddler mixed with the language of her area. And as she grew the language grew along with the history and cultural colloquialisms.

I was struck by how normal the author perceived it was to live in war zones or areas of gang wars. I know that must be how it is for anyone in these kinds of situations. That is their ‘normal’. So this was an educational piece for me.

Still, I find I am glad to move on to other books now. Thank you for recommending this to me. I hope everyone likes it better than I did.

I have been thinking about my next coloring project for the Escapist Coloring Club. I’ve used mostly colored pencils. They’re fine but I miss the smell of crayons. But I couldn’t seem to get my crayons to blend the way I could with pencils. I may have stumbled upon an answer. I thought I would share with the rest of you. By the way, I ran across this answer on Pinterest.

Besides the Baby Oil hint, there are other hints on how to make your coloring experience more fun and creative. I hope you all find these as useful as I did. And I’m with Alisa Burke, I only love Crayola crayons none of the others. Most of the crayons I have tried over the years were waxy and didn’t have that marvelous scent.

All’s Good Sunday 20190310

If you are seeing this, it is because I am writing this on my Acer that is now working again. This is my inner spirit:

So today was about starting the next hat on a bigger loom.

Sorry I can lighten the picture as my old editor isn’t here. The brim is too dark in this picture. But it is almost the length that I fold it up and continue the hat.

Happy Sunday, everyone!

Abashed

There is something In this world that can leave the averaged person abashed. Yep, the blue screen of death. When it appears on your computer screen. But I have a hero in my house. My own personal IT guy. Yep. My husband is the best! Though I’m still using my tablet, it is only because he’s running all the utilities (because I’m horrible at doing that.)

I started the morning feeling sad about my poor machine. I watched season three of Game of Thrones. I finished another hat like the last one. I don’t think you’ll be able to tell the difference. But here’s the proof.

And in case you think this is old news, it’s snowing.

Ever feel you’re in a timey-wimey glitchy thingy? Me, too. Don’t forget your clocks tonight.

Thank you, Linda, for the Stream of Consciousness challenge!

My friends and I were finishing our Face timing when the screen froze and I got this:20190308_193945 1

So from my tablet this is all I have in me to do.  😢

We’ll see what we can do about it tomorrow. Hope you’re having a better Friday!

Thursday Hats 20190307

I actually finished this hat a couple days ago but forgot to post. It is made on this loom and just the same yarn as a few before. I love the stuff! It is soft and not too thick so I think it will be okay for spring and sensitive heads. Here are the current Work In Process and the one I just finished. Just flat knit stitch and fold up brim.
