Verily I say unto you, I can’t wait to be finished with NaNo! I caught up yesterday and my last wordcount was 40,217. I still need about 1,450 to get in today’s words. Here are the first few paragraphs of the first scene of today. Again, sorry if it doesn’t make sense. I don’t know if it makes sense if I shared the whole thing, ya know—editing needs to happen big time!

_________

“Voicing my opinion is what I do.” Dusty laughed. The vein on her forehead bulging. It always happened when she got tickled.

Maggie laughed. “Your opinion is all that counts in my life.”

“But I still don’t want vegetables. Give them to the vegetarians. Since becoming a dragon, I find I prefer charred venison.” Dusty growled in echo to her tummy. They had entered the valley on the other side of Xeno. The small village tucked into the vegetation, the river running through it all and ending in a veil of white from the waterfalls created the visual Haven had embraced on her own world.

And back to the writing! Hope you all are having a great April. Our temps are now in the 70s in the day and no more dripping faucets overnight. Nearby cities are sometimes in the 80s! I like it right now!!!!! We don’t usually get Fall or Spring in our Outback of Oregon, so if I can I take a long time enjoying outside with Kali and walk around the yard so I can get up to longer walks. Chair Yoga started hurting my tailbone too much so I will need to find some other exercise out in the fresh air (pre-fire season). Look how much I write while trying to avoid the actual writing!

“We understand time travel.” Paul was reflecting on how it all started for him and his elflike friends. He quoted from a long forgotten textbook in space-school: Understanding the universal units of upmost unpossiblities unites uncertain yet, unique modes without undermining the possibilities of space and time, and it uses only the smallest amount of our energies.

Take that! One-Liner Wednesday, A-to-Z Challenge, and within the first paragraph I wrote for CampNaNo!

So, I think I am getting my stride back. Without losing a second, here are my first few paragraphs from the first scene I’m writing tonight.

____

Seeing their counterpart joining each other and singing, the dragons did the same. Screeching, squealing, nearly screaming would more define the sound of the dragons but their riders were delighted. They pretended to conduct the trio into harmonics most humans would never tolerate. But the girls were thrilled. They too started singing in the most dissonant way. They could feel the vibrations between the bubbles ripping. They could hear each other better and better. Soon they could run to each other and swing their bodies onto the backs of their dragon friends, and they soared skyward wishing to never see this beach ever again.

Looking down onto the people on the beach they realized they couldn’t leave. They still needed to help humans save their elfish spacemen. They figured if they took the creatures to Haven, they could actually bring the elves back to life. So each dragon picked up the dead and blinked to Haven.

The second they landed on Haven they realized their mistake. Haven still wasn’t in charge, and the cousins’ mothers were still as dead.

_____

Sorry to leave you on such a sad note. There is a promise that what we see isn’t so, but that needs to be worked out. Haven in 3D is the title and is a sequel of Haven the first book I wrote in 2001 and can be found on Wattpad.

I’m sorry if this is confusing. I know the story I’m telling, and even knowing the whole picture I am still working out the bits. Mostly I am trying to get out my 1,667 words a day to make it to 50K by the 30th of this month. I currently have 33,734. My goal is to hit today 36,652. CampNaNo is challenging to say the least!

The last few days have been horrid health-wise. My allergies and fibro are fighting for me to be sleeping 24/7 instead of having a working brain and tapping fingers. I’ve even started drinking coffee at night, and yet I sleep and not write!

Hopefully, you all had a good Holy Day/Easter. I have to admit that I’m glad I didn’t have eggs to boil and color or high energy kids jumping about. Been there, done that, t-shirt and all. Our neighbor’s chickens have been visiting lately so we have possible broods getting ready. I love his hens and the gorgeous rooster and our black and white speckled girls seem to like the company.

Look how much I wrote here! Why am I not getting that many words over in yWriter? (I’m doing okay. Just complaining. Sorry) Well, I won’t if I don’t get over there and continue typing! See ya all tomorrow!

IB (Thanks, Linda!)

The tribulations of writing 50K a month are trying to come up with story and words to meet the challenge. It would be wonderful if someone would hand you all the words tied up in a pretty ribbon. But see, doing it this way, I get the occasional word from prompts, if not, at least the first letter. Still, I have to fill in the rest. And what if the writer within is having health issues, lack of sleep issues, a rainy Saturday? Throw it into the pot. Just like the brother who made us lazy-bones spaghetti, thanks! Read a blog and someone speaks of chicken thighs? Hehe, the characters have lunch! So below you see what my characters inherited from my lazy Rainy Saturday:

Raining. Nothing is more restful as the sound of rain on the roof. Anna stretched and cozied under the covers. It’s Saturday. Saturday’s are for sleeping in.

An hour later She woke again with the thought that since they landed on Haven they hadn’t kept track of the days of the week or dates on a calendar. What made her sit up straighter, they hadn’t had rain, not like this. A sprinkling every now and then, but not mud making noisy rain.

“Judy, Beth, is it Saturday? Is it raining?”

They often had sleep-overs, they found they needed to reconnect often like it had been the first few days on Haven,

Judy stood and pulled open the curtains. “Sure enough!” she gestured toward the window. The grey sky and steady tapping on the window seemed to bring her under its power. She laid back down on her bed and stared out the window. She was nearly back to sleep when Beth woke excited.

“Know what would make this a perfect day? Boneless fried chicken with mushrooms, and then read, play games, or draw all day!”

Judy loved cooking so she took on the request and headed for the kitchen. She pulled the chicken from the fridge and started the stove. She loved how everything appeared when she needed it, without the bother of going to a store, or even worse chopping the head off said chicken and de-feathering. Within minutes the savory smells had all three women at the table doing their share of prep to make a meal worth the drool.

So I am behind due to the sinus issues so I need to get over and vomit another 2,000 words. Have a wonderful Saturday. By the way, we’ve had two naps already due to the rain. At least our desert sage is green instead of yellow like the rest of the year. And Pirates of the Caribbean have been on all day to be the background for naps or writing.

A2Z, Q, CampNaNo 20190419

Besides a thunderstorm quaking the skies and sinus and earaches, I’m tempted to quit being on the computer. So I thought I better post now and get quiet. Besides listening to the rain and thunder is so much more fun that wracking up words! I’m at 30,654 I need over a thousand, but the brain and storm are not in cahoots! So here is my first scene of today’s writing. Maybe all I’ll get done. I’ll have to go crazy tomorrow.

____

“Quiet!” Dusty hissed. “We must stop this quarreling. We know what is causing this and we are dragons. No matter what size, we need to rise above this. I don’t know how much of that grass we ate, but let’s not try anymore.”

There was a lot to do. They had landed on Xeno through the wormhole but they still needed to find Ora and friends. While no one was around they became their human selves. They wanted to fit in so they donned grey sweat suits rather than quaint lady-like dresses. None of them felt comfortable in dresses. Besides, they might have to run and dresses were never practical.

Now suited up they meandered toward the wooded area. Dusty knew that that was the direction of the school. As they got near to the school they heard a ruckus. “I swear to you, I’m not qualified to deal with these kinds of children. They ask question after question, acting like little kings and queens! I quit!” A woman cried, stomping out of the nearby building.

The lady ran into the woods and nearly ran Dusty and Maggie over. She stopped when out of sight of the building. “Dusty! It’s about time someone come help! Things are getting crazy!”

It had been a long time since Dusty had lived on Xeno. She didn’t recognize this woman. At least not at first. Then as she looked at her she realized it was Enelrad in the form of a human. To keep others from knowing they knew each other she asked, “Do I know you?”

“I’m Sarah. You?”

“I used to be Bertha, but when I lost weight I decided on the name Dusty.”

Sarah smiled so big it nearly looked like a dragon smile. “I’m so glad to meet you, again. I’m so sorry you had to witness my explosion. That school is out of control. No one should have to work there.”

The women decide that it was a good time to sit on the ground and talk. This was an area of no cameras so they could talk freely. “So tell us what is happening there?” Maggie couldn’t wait to find out.

“The children used to be well disciplined. They would quote the leader stand in a queue, were polite, saying yes, ma’am, no ma’am. But suddenly they argue and fight. They don’t care about manners. They don’t study their lessons.” Then Sarah lowers her voice to a whisper. ‘I’m not sure who is listening. Since Ora and our friends got stuck in another dimension there seems no consistency to how people or even animals will act. I was hired on the spot when they found me here with Daniel. Since I seemed to help him come out of his shell somewhat. (He is my mate after all!)’ she added with a wink. ‘But Daniel is not there, I can’t find Ora, Zella, Milo or Daniel anywhere. That first time here I was able to see the edges of a dimensional bubble and set her free, but I can’t find them, so I don’t know where the bubble is. I decided to play it out and work here and see if I could learn more. But the school, the officials, everyone in the compound are out of control and erratic in behavior.’

Dusty smiled as it caught her on her funny bone, ‘So just no quality control here?’ That’s a far cry than how it used to be. Almost the complete opposite.’ Then she explained what they had learned through the wormhole experience and the ‘cranky grass’. She invited Enelrad to join them on their quest to find Ora. Maybe with everyone looking they will find the answers, and start minding their ps and qs!

I should have made my review part of the A-to-Z Challenge. After all, the Payback series by Cidney Swanson would have worked, right? But I didn’t think of it until now.

Instead, I made part of my first scene of tonight’s writing for my CampNaNo. Every character is in trouble. Robert and Owl, Nascha in Navajo, or wise one, are trying to get to the place where the green beam seemed to hit the moon. Without further ado, and knowing I have to get back to the actual writing, here is the partial scene:

“Pray it isn’t serious,” Owl said, knowing in his being that wasn’t so.

Robert knew it was serious. “Pray we can handle it properly. He had been called Haven’s own Leonardo Da Vinci. He was knowledgeable in a little of everything. He loved art and music but had degrees in science and technology. He was self-taught in psychiatry and philosophy. He was rarely without answers. Yet here he was a widower watching his planet of birth and his planet of choice in problems that no one could perceive.

Still, they ran a bit and sat a bit. They both knew Earth wouldn’t be able to reach them while they were running. They needed to proceed with caution. “What does that mean, though? Proceeding not at all seemed the most careful.”

Here was a job someone had to do, but there were few who could do it. Everyone seemed either caught in the green beam or dead. Years of living on Haven taught him not to take the obvious solution. Or even believe what is in front of your eyes. But many more years of Earth living before Haven made jumping to conclusions still the more probable hop.

___

I hope that made any kind of sense. If not, I guess you have to wait until the book is finished, like me! This book is a sequel in the Haven series. Its title is Haven in 3D. Haven, the first book can be found here.

Once the strange moon rose above the Earth, the tribes stopped their dancing; observing the spectacle in unison caused a concerted cry of “Oh!”

________

This was the first line of the first scene I wrote today. The prompt from Linda G. Hill for One-Liner Wednesday seemed to be the moon. (I never saw the prompt.) Today’s A2Z letter, I think, is O. Sometimes less is more, but I like to mix it up, all the prompts at once. It makes a harder challenge, but I think it makes my writing more interesting. All this writing is for CampNaNo where I’m attempting to write 50,000 words by April 30th. My current word count is 26,710. The project I’m working on is Haven in 3D a sequel of my first book, Haven. Click on any of the blue underlined words if you want to know more about any of these subject.

Before I gave up trying to keep behind on the A-Z Challenge I did set this up within my story. I doubt I’ll be able to use CampNaNo with A2Z. It is already two or more days behind me.

By the way, my current word count is 23483. This is one of my favorite days of a NaNo project. Day 15. By the end of the day, I need 25K. Barring computer glitches which I don’t put past this stupid Acer, I will have it. Even with the Stupid Acer breaking, I can still get the words on my tablet, or Kindle. I could even write on paper. But then the stupid hand will break down. LOL! Though I love the feeling of writing cursive, there is no built-in spell-check, Grammarly, or word count. Or built-in pain reliever!

Without further ado, here is my crossover A2Z/CampNaNO couple of paragraphs from my work in progress, Haven in 3D.

______

Murdered? Henry saw the knife sticking out of each little chest. These small people were no bigger than the child he’d known in the bunker. What was her name? Lucy? Sarah? Henry sat on the floor. He asked: What can I do for them? Should I take out the knives, cover with dirt or mud, or myself? These people represent love. What can I do?

I’m rather new to something like this. Let’s try the mud idea until I can come up with something else. They aren’t of Earth or Haven, but Haven was able to save Earthlings. I need to try, with your help.

Henry, Robert, and Adam grabbed a bucket of water nearby and poured it into the dirt. Very quickly the dirt was saturated and the guys started covering the elves with the mud. Then for an added bonus, they lay down on the creatures just hoping that if it worked for them that it would work for the elves. But after five minutes they had to admit defeat.

I think it didn’t work like it did for you because they are already dead. You had merely passed out. I’m so sorry humans. Earth told them.

____

So, how many got to watch GoT last night? After binging a few days to refresh the last season, I was ready. In fact, after watching that episode where Dani’s dragon is killed, how many of you noticed how Jon’s pommel eye looked like it opened as Jon came out of the water? First time I ever saw that. I shouted at my husband and pointed it out. But research seems to point to it just being a shadow of Jon’s hand rather than another an Easter Egg or foretelling of more fantasy. Anyway, I loved the show last night. Can’t wait to see what happens this season. I’m so sorry to see it ended. It is so well-written, fun, and makes one think. All the things a good show should do. Thoughts?

Have a blessed Passover Week.

Here’s yesterday’s first scene in the fun of the A-to-Z Challenge.

“Come in. I was just setting a kettle for tea. What’s up” Judy was used to working. Even on Haven, when Haven was there, she preferred doing for herself as much as she could. She thought all the wishing for things was a killer in disguise. People need work to grow.

“Have you heard from the guys? It is so much harder to stay centered down here. I don’t hear telepathic messages as often. How are we supposed to stay sane in here, knowing Haven is in danger, knowing our friends and family are out there. I’m getting a knot in my stomach from the worry.”

“Chamomile for you, dear.” Judy laughed. “I’m kidding. I do worry, now, too. I do think the key to this is to keep ourselves as open as possible and meditate several times a day. We had gotten out of practice out there.”

Rather than sit at the table while waiting for the teapot to whistle, Anna and Judy kneeled and then sat in the lotus position and held hands. They didn’t know what they didn’t know until they were quiet and knew. Anna nearly kicked Judy in getting up so fast. “Haven is in trouble. Enelrad can’t land here. I wish she hadn’t left again.”

“At least we know that the guys are okay. Henry says they found the group in the cave. They are all happy and healthy and willing to help.” Judy kept her knitting kit next to her chair. While she waited she knitted. She covered her knees with a light-weight blanket, not for the draft, but to keep the yarn from going everywhere. Everyone in the cave had something made by Judy. They all wore them with pride. Others were now learning to make clothing or playthings. Keeping the hands busy helped them to stay focused on here and now, rather than lost in worry.

“Hey, I’m making some kidney bean soup. Would you take that knife and cut up the onions?” Judy knew that Anna needed something to do and cutting up vegetables seemed to help. Their kinship had been active since way back on the ship. Sisters of the planet. Judy loved her cave home. There was a king-size bed, and bookshelves full of everything from fairy tales to the Koran. She was even fond of her copy of ‘How to Kill a Mockingbird.’

By the way, my current word-count is: 18,510.

Have the planet becomes a human in Haven in 3D Here she is as Ora Ja Ja.

My first book, Haven can be found on WattPad. Or the first three chapters, on my site, here. I am gradually bringing the whole thing here. But right now writing Haven in 3D is taking up my time.

I have been needing to review one of my other books, Earth the Final Frontier. A lot of the characters from that book are in my current book. Is it wrong that I really like that book? I’m reading it as my night time read and yes, there are things I need to edit, but I am loving the adventure once again. I wish I could bring that excitement to all the books in the series.

By the way, Earth the Final Frontier has over 92K so it is taking me many nights of reading. Are there writers in my blogosphere that have a way to keep track of all the characters, where they’ve been what we left them doing, quirks, etc? I do have yWriter to keep track. I have an Excel spreadsheet but my eyes have troubles with looking at it. I almost think I need to write it all on a wall. Wish I had one I could use like that. I know before I publish these I will have to make a character list to go at the beginning or end of each book so no one gets lost.

Something like this would be wonderful!

Just a joke, I tell you! I jest!” Adam called. “Uncle, already!”

“You know we can’t resist when you take yourself so seriously most of the time.” Robert ceased knuckling their friend’s head”

“Speak for yourself, Robert. I joke around all the time and you don’t go all judge and jury on me! Where’s the justice? Are you jealous?” Henry smiled but was serious.

“Yes. You both have a purpose I’ve yet to find. Henry, you may jaw a lot, but It is for the purpose of keeping the peace or lifting the mood. Adam, you designed the structures on Haven and became quite useful to Her. I seem to be here merely to help Anna. And she still seems a bit depressed and still holding on to quite a lot of guilt.”

“Welcome to the jungle. We three do have the awesome job of joy. Our jewels of wives are the main leaders of Haven. She wanted it that way. And it has gone quite well for all of us. Okay, it is our turn in the great scheme of things that we jump how high according to our mates. Women did that for ages. We, also, get to see what jail they had to live in. And we reap the joys as they accomplish what we couldn’t here on Earth and on Haven. Any jam we get in, we are saved by the women. Look we don’t have to justify our lives. We were chosen by Haven for these ladies. And now Haven has sent us here. She knows we need our adventures, too.” Henry was always the voice of reason when he wasn’t cracking jokes.

Robert was the most mature of the three. But he’d been depressed for a while. He loved these guys like brothers. Which, in a sense, they were. The first three men to be awakened on Haven. As such they chose the jurisdiction of the joint. While Adam may have been the architect, Robert and Henry became the brawn to follow through and get the buildings set up for their town. Each helped the newly awakened get set up in new homes. Each lent their voices to the group songs. Robert tried to pull in his mood and try to remain positive. Adam was the target of Robert’s misplaced reason for living.

_____

That was the first scene from yesterday’s Camp NaNo project, Haven in 3D a sequel to my first novel Haven that you can find on the WattPad page in its entirety or here the first three chapters.  My current wordage is: 16,709. The bolded words are part of the J words I used for the A-to-Z Challenge. I like having prompts to write.

While I’m in over my head in writing I know there is a world out there. What have you been doing? What’s happening in your world? Weatherwise we are windy, cloudy and expecting snowy rain. I’m sorry if you live in the midwest with the snownado. Be safe and warm!
