March First

Finally Floundering February bids us adieu. And right on the Mark March brings ideas to move forward.

A couple years ago my cousin sent me a tape recorder and asked me to write (record) my memoirs.

I chickened out. Plain and simple. But I did write my memories.  So here’s my idea (and I’m already a day late!) I will record, read aloud and edit the memories and edit as I go. I put it in NaNo as this month’s goal. I added my last Nano novel. Both books are 15k each. I plan to read aloud and edit that one, too.

I may have bit off more than I can chew. Maybe I’ll prioritize the memoir. No more Floundering, just get busy!

By the way, for those who tried, thanks for playing 😀

In other news we have winter starting now. Alaska is sending us a cold front.

Just as evening was descending. Cold but blue skies.
Yesterday morning. The sky was not that blue.
Blue than it actually was.
That’s more how I remember it.
Coming down. Cold and gray.

Meanwhile, for Finishing Friday:

This is a fun project. Haven’t touched the lighthouse.
Almost to the heels.
Still proceeding with learning the uke. I actually am needing the next book. I think my fingers are toughening up!

I finished The Mammoth Hunters but haven’t had the chance to write the review. I’m loving reading the series again.

It’s snowing again. It’s so pretty. I’m glad the rodent was wrong!

I can’t believe I’m involved in three diamond paintings at a time.  I straightened and sealed the Sea Turtles. So that on pay day I can mail it. It still looks the same so I’ll use a past pic.

This was a fun project!

While it was drying, I decided to go with the peacock next. So I’m geared up ready to go. Here’s the opening.

The usual pen, cushion, tray, wax and baggies. Those cellophane bags the drills come in were so full of static. I think because today was windy, snowy, rainy, and back to wind.
I can’t wait to start this beauty! I have books on that center fold hoping to iron it out by tomorrow. We
I got this much done so far on the lighthouse. Click on the picture to see the diamonds and empty symbols. I learned, just now, that this lightpad doesn’t need to stay plugged in. It can be charged! Yay! Small wins, ya know?
Except for hiding the yarn ends, I finished these.  They seem larger than the size 7. But as slippers they may work.

So the founding of the day was trying not to dump diamonds everywhere especially with static making them fly. I only have two hands people!

I so hoped I’d be finished today but my back started hurting so I had to quit. But look how close!

Just the fin and head of under turtle, and a tiny bit of sea.

And, so close on this pair of socks. Just the cuff. So, again, probably tomorrow.

I hope these are size 7.

Toes done, now ready for that comfy arch part.

These will be small. I hope to try the fishlip heel on these. I’m told it is easy. If not I’ll tink back and do the Fleegle Heel. It’s so easy.

While Diamond Painting I enjoyed zooming with friends or listening to The Mammoth Hunters. While knitting, I have been enjoying The Flight Attendant. (A comedy, thriller yeah, more thriller.)

Sans popcorn this time.

February must be fading away as the flounder doesn’t seem so large.

I bet fellow flounder thinks sea turtles fly!

Sorry you’ve had to see these so often. It’s hard to photograph my recordering or uking it up.

Finishing bigger turtle’s top fin. If you click on the picture you can see tomorrow’s fun.
I seem to get hyper focused on these, too. I’m on #24 of 43. The thing about crossword puzzles is how you have to mind-read.
Starting the heels tomorrow. Trying for size 7.

I’ve been trying to rebinge The Walking Dead. I’m finally on season 11 on Netflix. This Sunday we’ll see the what happened to Rick and Michonne.

It has a lot of dark scenes. I don’t like how they show dark as I can’t see anything. I guess people who have better televisions can see but between our TV and my eyes, I tend to concentrate on my knitting rather than strain my eyes.

I’m enjoying a second read of the Clan of the Cave Bears. I love listening to this second book, Valley of Horses while Diamond Painting. It helps me sit there longer. I think this is my favorite of the series. Does anyone know if they ever did a TV series? No, there’s no way it could be as good as the books, but still it could be good.

My constant Flounder not just in February is with time to sleep. Especially if it’s a good book! Bedtime doesn’t even have diamond painting for a side distraction.

A little more turtle back and water above. The colors are so pretty!
One sock finished. One almost.

And that is all I have for Tuesday. The rest is undocumented floundering.

This was a hard day. So tired I barely got anything done. But a tiny bit of progress happened. After a bit of floundering and getting nothing else done, I took a nap.

A pair of short slipper socks. They need more ankle then ribbing. I am incorporating the arch of the foot ribbing from the no-show sock pattern. I like how it feels on my foot so I hope the recipient will like it, too.
I mentioned the tray set I use for pictures with confetti of colors. I put a little label in each one if I feel I might get mixed up.
This little tool is great for straightening the diamonds as I go.
When there are large amounts of color I have these larger trays with lids making shaking the drills a bit neater. And you can save for later that way.
See the top line? That’s what I got done today. Reaching up that long did hurt after a bit. So that’s all I could finish.

I’m having trouble with the sun catchers. I’m not sure how to make the strings of sparkles to chain on them. I’m too tired to work with it this evening. I’m watching YouTubes to see if others know how to do the jewelry parts.

I think I will go to bed early to read and rest.

I finished these ages ago but never did the sealing or chaining them to the hooks and beads. So tonight I sealed side one. I think by Sunday I’ll have them ready to hang up.
I was able to last longer this time finishing the strip on the left side. This has a lot of color in it. Even the water is varied in its blues and greens.
I finally have a I, IV, and a V. Okay, I needed to do a quick note to myself as to how to do the G7 (V). But as I sing as I strum, I’m teaching myself to work with chords instead of each individual note (how I was taught all my life).
Here is the next batch of chords I’m working on. Yes, I cheated by adding my own I and IV chords.
On the recorder I’m playing with the G major scale and arpeggio, and that minuet. On piano both are easy but trying to be smooth with breath and fingers is the challenge.
This song has memories. I was learning it in voice class when my grandmother was dying. I hadn’t memorized the lyrics but by her hospital bed as she was nearing the end, my cousin asked me to sing a song. Here I floundered, all I could hear was The Ash Grove. But I couldn’t. I didn’t know the words. It’s quite beautiful and fitting for the situation. So I sang nothing. I did get to sing In The Garden at her funeral.            My work on this is to get smooth enough to record them to sing to.
I can play all the melody songs on my soprano recorder. But now I want to learn the harmonies and all the alto recorder parts. Again I hope to record and do duets with myself.
I found this pair of socks I’d started and somehow forgot. So I’m farther along in my family gift than I thought.
I’ve made a little progress here probably 3 more inches then start the heel.
One more inch and the arch gets made. I’m really enjoying these sneaker no-show socks. I nearly have the pattern memorized.
Rock on, Friday Night!

These cute little no-show socks are for a little Love. I started out with toe-up, two at a time, on Chiaogoo red lace 40″ size 1.5 needles. As I got to the heel part, I realized I needed to separate due to the way you have to decrease in odd places, and it made it hard to maintain two socks on one set of needles. The pattern and tutorial is by 10rowsaday

The floundering part of this sock is it is for a size 1 child shoe size. I didn’t have the child nearby to try it out as I went. So I hope they will fit her. The other flounder is that I didn’t have two of the same size cables so the second sock is on a size 2, I think. And I started the sock with a Turkish cast-on far bigger than I should have. I hope they are comfortable and fit.

For her brother, I am making a pair of slippers. I’m following the Toe-up Socks with Fleegle Heel in Any Weight and Size, which I don’t need to watch the YouTube so closely. I have a lot of this yarn, so you may have seen it before. But seriously, this is a new pair of socks. For a size 4 child. I hope spring doesn’t come before he gets the chance to wear them. I’ve posted this YouTube before, but I love it so much that I think it is the easiest sock to knit, no matter what size or yarn.

Many are wondering about my Flounder February idea. It is simple. For most of my life, I have fought myself and my upbringing to be perfect. Now, I am giving my flaws a chance to enjoy life without criticism. I plan to show the challenges that come up. Share the indecisions that carry me. In the meanwhile, I plan to enjoy the progress.

I just heard a statement today that I wish would have been said often in my life. Instead of Practice makes Perfect. Practice makes progress. Maybe it does lead to Carnegie Hall, eventually, but many of us just want to enjoy what we’ve been given and grow.

Bottom-line is I’m writing. Did I ever tell you about all the diaries I had as a kid? You know, the ones with the little locks. Oh, not to mention all of fancy journals I have now. I can’t seem to ever get far in any of them. As a kid, I gave up when the daily jot was , “I breathed in and out.” When I could think of nothing else to share in the secure place, I quit. Here, I seem to have written every day for quite a while. Some of it was not much more that breathing in and out. But other times I found my passions and past times growing. And that seems to work.

Who’s Floundering? What works and what doesn’t?

Finishing Friday

I can’t stand having empty needles when I have yarn for them. So a new pair of socks started. Two-At-A-Time, Chiaogoo red-laced cable needles. Toe done.
Mixing leftovers from Son’s and his special lady’s socks to make a crazy pair. Again, Two-At-A-Time Toe-up, Chiaogoo red-laced cable needles.
I still have a lot of this yarn left. The family seems to like the slipper socks made from this. Two-At-A-Time, Toe-up, Chiaogoo red-laced cable needles.
And the challenge. Leg-Warmers. 7 inches done. Only 20 more to go! Two-At-A-Time cuff down. I’ve never done these before, but I’m learning as I go. 🤗

Ta-Da Tuesday

I’m in love with these. Sadly, they are not my size. Hopefully, they will be finished after a bit of ankle then a cuff. Can’t wait to see the finished product!
Long leggings. I love the colors, but am not as excited doing these as actual socks.
These are ankle and cuff from being done. I hope I can finish these and the pinkies on top by the weekend.

Really, I’m more excited about actually finishing my laundry today. Oh. I still have a couple dishes in the sink. You’ll hear my Ta-Da before I go to bed.
