Things We’ve Watched Thursday

I know it’s been a while since I caught you up on our latest binges. Now that C’s shoulder is healing, and Kali has become a dog who eats instead of one who seemed destined for death or at least well into a bulimic situation. So I have a bit more energy to tell about other parts of my life. Bingeing has kept us all sane as we heal. Here are some of the shows we’ve enjoyed.

Right now my husband is catching up with my brother, son, and I on The 100. I’m watching with him as I love rewatching good shows. I think it helps my writing to see how shows are put together.

I caught up with Orange Is the New Black. OMG! Get out your Kleenex. I fear the people who need to learn what the show was trying to teach probably won’t watch it. Meanwhile, those of us who understand and have learned empathy for others will find ourselves crying out loud. I actually had to leave the room and go cathartic release to C. I don’t often cry like that but I did when Poussey died way back when. If you haven’t please watch.

Occasionally, I watch stuff I know the rest don’t want to watch in-between group watchings. Ozark is one of those I can take or leave an the guys don’t seem to care either.

A fun light watch is Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries.

A while back we finished all of Stranger Things. LOVED IT!

That’s all the ones I can think of right now. I’ll find others soon! Happy pain-relieving distractions and writer studies!

Orange Is the New Black: My Year in a Women's Prison
Orange Is the New Black: My Year in a Women’s Prison by Piper Kerman
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I have to admit that I picked up the hardback copy from the library after watching the series on Netflix. The tree version hurt my eyes to read so I went ahead and bought my own Kindle version. I’m glad I did. This book was worth every penny! I could listen to text-to-speech while I read. It might have been even better to have the audio-version with human voice but this was just fine.

The beginning was very satisfying as it mirrored the Netflix version. The book proceeded from there a little less raw. It did feel like Ms. Kerman was putting a good spin on her experience in prison. The Netflix version puts in a lot more drama. Which is the real version? I don’t know but I feel like it may fall somewhere in between. I think the Netflix may take other stories about prison life and show other things that may go on.

Piper Kerman’s writing kept me engaged and wanting to know what was happening next. I was impressed with her zen attitude and reserve while describing some of the horrid things that go on in prison life. Even though I am twice her age I could identify with feelings she eloquently expressed.

Everyone should read this book. Men and women alike, all ages and races. We can all appreciate the message and maybe help create a better world.

How Free is Free

How does a free blog site work when everything is tied to dollars? How do you create content without using proprietary themes when it seems even the colors and fonts are tied to upgrades for usage? Is it even possible? I hope to find out.
