I. AsimovI. Asimov by Isaac Asimov
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

After watching the Foundation series on Amazon Prime, I found the Prelude and then this autobiography on Kindle. I wish I had found it as an audiobook. The text-to-speech voice didn’t feel as good as an actual voice. Because of that, I may go and buy the Audible version.

If you are a writer, if you love sci-fi, if you love Isaac Asimov as much as I have most of my life, I think you will enjoy this book. He relates much of his life, but also shares his writing style and drive.

And he does it all with a sense of humor. I didn’t expect that. I found myself giggling and fearing I’d wake my husband.

If you get the chance, check it out. I think you’ll love it, too.

You with the Sad Eyes: A MemoirYou with the Sad Eyes: A Memoir by Christina Applegate
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

How do you review a life? That’s how I feel when I report on an autobiography. Christina Applegate has lived a complicated life, with goals met and enjoyed, and others missed. or regretted. And it continues.

The author did her own reading. I always appreciate that. One could hear her angst, fears, or sadness in her voice. I have to admit it brought up my own empathetic emotions for her. Maybe I should warn you to bring Kleenex?

While she has had the dream jobs, much of her life has been the pits. And now, as she lives with MS, she has a podcast offering support for others. I think her love for others shows through everything.

Libby loaned this audiobook. Thank you!

Kids, Wait Till You Hear This!: My Memoir - The instant #1 Sunday Times Bestselling MemoirKids, Wait Till You Hear This!: My Memoir – The instant #1 Sunday Times Bestselling Memoir by Liza Minnelli
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Here is a memoir worth listening to. Liza Minnelli tells her story of over 80 years on this earth. In her own voice. It was fascinating.

I’ve never been her greatest fan, but since the book, my respect has deepened to the point I want to go find everything she ever did and enjoy it with new eyes and ears.

Libby supplied this audiobook. Enjoy.

Getting Naked: The Quiet Work of Becoming Perfectly ImperfectGetting Naked: The Quiet Work of Becoming Perfectly Imperfect by Valerie Bertinelli
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This autobiography was pleasant even when dealing with life’s heartaches. I felt lighter after reading it than I usually do after an author shares their highs and lows. I’ve always appreciated the positive energy Valerie Bertinelli shares with her audience.

In this audiobook from Libby, I found the author’s voice uplifting and loving to everyone.

I highly recommend this book. Refreshing!

We the Women: The Hidden Heroes Who Shaped AmericaWe the Women: The Hidden Heroes Who Shaped America by Norah O’Donnell
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Norah O’Donnell (Author, Narrator), Kate Andersen Brower (Author) wrote this book that should be required reading in all history classes. In fact, as much time as we were forced to spend on males and war, we were forced to struggle through in school as girls. Knowing that women were alive and contributing to society, laws, and even wars would have given me a bit more self-esteem, along with the other women growing up in my day.

Sure, we’ve all heard of Betsy Ross. Yes, she was included. But I certainly didn’t see myself sewing a new flag. Knitting a hat now puts me in that league, I guess.

Anyway, I was able to pick up this audiobook from Libby. I barely got it done in time as it was due today. I may buy this later as I want to study it and become more versed in Women’s Herstory.

My Grape Baby (The Grape Series, #9)My Grape Baby by Laura Bradbury
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I’m sad that this is the end of the series, as far as I know. It has been fun to watch Laura in her college years, meeting and marrying Franck. I loved meeting her Canadian family and Franck’s French family. There is a bit of a feeling of traveling and living somewhere other than here.

In previous books, we met Laura and Franck’s first two babies. We enjoyed watching them flip a couple of homes and a wine cellar. And we read about food and wine, a lot of wine. The real estate and food I can do without, but in this book, it gets personal. And may I, without giving spoilers, warn you to have Kleenex nearby.

I wish Laura and her family all the best. Enjoy these books if you get the chance.

Future Boy: Back to the Future and My Journey Through the Space-Time ContinuumFuture Boy: Back to the Future and My Journey Through the Space-Time Continuum by Michael J. Fox
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This was a fun book to listen to. It brought back memories of my children enjoying the Back to the Future franchise.

I was lucky to pick this up through Libby. It surprised me that Michael J. Fox did his own narration. I had to slow down the audio because I sometimes didn’t quite catch what was said. That may just be because I was busy doing other things while listening. Still, Michael talks fast, so it helped me concentrate better.

If you want a little flash to the past, this is a great read/listen.

My Grape Cellar (The Grape Series, #8)My Grape Cellar by Laura Bradbury
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This was my least favorite of the series. It seemed to stay with real estate, food, and wine rather than family and all things French. And it seemed to skip over Laura’s expanding family. Still, I enjoyed the read and gained a greater sense of travel and living in France.

I read this on my Kindle app on an old phone. This series has been easy for my eyes and fun for my language curiosities. I’ve already moved on to the next book. This one will center on the new baby. That should be more fun for me.

Chasing Evil: Shocking Crimes, Supernatural Forces, and an FBI Agent’s Search for Hope and JusticeChasing Evil: Shocking Crimes, Supernatural Forces, and an FBI Agent’s Search for Hope and Justice by Robert Hilland
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Robert Hilland (Author, Narrator) and John Edward (Author, Narrator) told a frightening story. And it is a nonfiction. It isn’t a ‘who done it’ as they knew who. They just needed to catch the guy in a legal way to stop his serial murders.

I made the mistake of trying to read this at bedtime and found I couldn’t sleep. The book opens the imagination and sets you in the detective seat, trying to figure out what is happening and how to catch the guy in the act before more deaths.

If you are a skeptic, this book challenges you. I must admit to my share of “Come on! No, WAY!” but then I still believe there is energy out there. Ghosts? Angels? Who knows until we get to the other side? I can see this book becoming a movie.

I was lucky to find this audiobook on Libby.

The Book of SheenThe Book of Sheen by Charlie Sheen
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Charlie Sheen is okay. I wouldn’t avoid a show cause he’s in it. Neither would I go out of my way to watch something he’s in. As a narrator he’s too fast, but I got used to his rhythm. And as memoirs go his was just, meh.

I would have rated this book with two stars, but he is clever with his phrasing in a way that makes me laugh. That brought my rating to three stars. Ah, but maybe others will love it. Heck, maybe I’d love it in another time or mood.

This audiobook is on Libby.
