What have I been focusing on this week?

I’m pretty proud to have received this today. Whoopie!
Nearly 2/3s finished with my second dragon. This one isn’t so naturally straight as my last one. I can see so much needing the straightening tool before I finish.
For nearly two years, I have worked on just sight-reading and trying to enjoy music. My progress is slower than I’d like, but I think I am nearly caught up with my 12-year-old self. But I’m still not near my music major days of my 40s. So I have been working through the next book. By the way, I learned piano and reading at the same time, so Music is my first/second language. I think that is why I love Italian.
The last chapter I read yesterday suggested practicing the bad parts 10 times correctly before moving on. When I was a child, my mother would have 10 buttons on the left side of the piano. Each time I played a piece or section, I would move a button per attempt. I hate to admit Mom was right. And I found myself balking at the thought of going through that again. I wanted to play! Today I chose to try to stay with my energy. I will gradually move into that rhythm of practice. Today’s reading led me to see other ways to get there. Shorter practice times with breaks and naps, and always a good night’s sleep. Okay, maybe I can handle it. I’ll keep reading. Eventually, I will have to take notes. Meanwhile, my goals are not to teach or play in concerts. My goal is to enjoy it and, hopefully, get loved ones to enjoy it too.

Because of my arm/shoulder pain, I am not knitting or crocheting so much. That means lots of games on my tablets, I like the escaping blocks type games. Any suggestions while healing?

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “blanket.” Use it any way you’d like. Have fun!
Snow started two nights ago.
See? A nice little blanket that lasted the whole next day.
And is still on the porch banisters today.
It’s not as thick as the sheets of music I’m enjoying playing with on my piano. I’ve made copies of favorites and new pieces. Taped together, I didn’t have to do page turns. Yes, the newest fun is Linus and Lucy Theme. As much as I love that and Dexter, I’m horrid at the rhythms presented. So my newest challenge is to get beyond “Nice cup of tea” triplet against duplets, and other syncopation and jazziness. All my new and old favorites are making me more passionate about my piano time. Okay. Thanks, Mom. 60 years too late, I suppose. But you knew I’d say it some day.

How does one thank those who have given you the most? Especially when they’re gone. In this case, I’m embracing the passion and challenges. Though I’m not naturally gifted. My mother blanketed me in lessons and learning discipline to practice. Or as I convinced my inner child, playing.

As I blanket myself in other musical fun.
Blankets of security and fun.
Nearly finished.

Sammie the Spidercat the furry lapcat who now can blanket my legs as I knit, crochet or scroll.

The best blanket. Feeling content and secure.

One-Liner Wednesday

Totally me! BUT there is the school of thought of visualization. It helps.

Floundering February

How is it already Sunday, almost Monday? The weekends seem to affect me now as much as they did when I was working. Back then, the time that was my own was filled with all the things to get ready for the work week and take care of the house. Now it’s just a rhythm change. Chris and I watch sci-fi, fantasy, or disaster movies. Just kind of like our date time. Today we watched Daybreak on, um, I think it was Hulu. It was pretty good to be so old.

Before we found a good show to settle on, we were watching vet shows and Sunday Morning and UU, where they celebrated Mardi Gras.

I got a bit more of the Sea Turtle done. (Just the back leg and tail).

The backlighting seems to show all the wavering lines. Guess I need to hit it with the straight edge to straighten it out. What’s funny is that that little tail bit took longer than the sea parts. I think I am not used to the confetti coloring and need to get more efficient with my trays. I’ll share that later. I think this is going to be pretty when finished with all the colors.

Time to do the recorder. Then scales on the keyboard. I do think all this floundering is making progress. But it is slow, for sure. By the way, I took a few moments while the computer wi-fi loaded that sea turtle picture, to practice chord changes and You Are My Sunshine on the uke.

Practice makes progress.

One-Liner Wednesday

One-liner Wednesday is a fun prompt by Linda G. Hill.
